Xperia X10 :: Messaging Service Crashes When Sending Or Reading Received Text
Aug 23, 2010
I'll be sending or reading a received text or reading through some old ones, and the messaging service will crash, I'll then open handcent and the same thing will happen. it will come up with the message "the application has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again" with options force close or wait, I'll select force close, re-open it and it comes up again.
I'm reading a text and I get two texts while I'm reading. They pop up below the loaded conversation, at the bottom of the screen. I can see who they are from and the first line of the message. When I return to the main text window however, the new texts are nowhere to be found, they have disappeared.
This is pretty frustrating--were they just glitchy re-sends of previous texts? Should I text the people who sent them and say, hey, did you send me a text today, because if you did, it disappeared?...
I can type about two words when composing or responding to a text message and then it freezes and I get the force quit error message. I get the sense the phone is trying to do something else at the same time - like find my GPS. I killed and deleted a bunch of apps to see if that would work and it didn't. I was running Go SMS Pro, but went back to the factory app - and it's still a problem. I am still running Go Contacts and Go Dialer.
Since I updated the software on my phone, the SMS messaging crashes all the time.
It was pretty slow before, but now it's unusable. I have tried app killer applications and tried deleting messaging history but it just can't seem to handle a simple request.
I love this phone, there's no other phone out there with the same design and shape, but I'm getting seriously fed up as this is not the first problem I've had. I think I will try a different manufacturer next time - SE have let me down.
For the past week I've been having problems sending Text Messaging. I notice if I reboot the phone then I get my messages. But not for very long. It will just stop working again. Is anyone else having this problem? I have the latest OS.
I've noticed that some times when I get text messages from certain contacts, the way it shows up on my informs me that it was sent to myself and X amount of people (and I can view those numbers/contacts if I have them). But what's annoying is when I try to reply to "said person" it replies to all contacts that recieve the message. Now if I hold down the message and get options, I can view the details and open the message/delete the message, and I can Reply to All... but it never lets me just reply to that person. There is no option for it. I just reply and they all get it.
Like I stated before, this is not every time I get a mass text message from someone. Some of my friends have iPhone 4s so I tested it last night with a friend sending out a text to two of us and when I received it there was no indication that it had been sent to multiple people. Also have another friend that does this a lot with his Droid 2, no issue with his either. I'm wondering if this is happening because of the way it's being sent to me (and others) but even if I can see who else it was sent to, I'd still like the option to just reply to one person.Any advice on this? I foresee people telling me to get another text messaging app though which makes me think AT&T/Motorola should really add a lot more features to their text messaging app just incase of the people that would like options..
I've just upgraded to an X10 mini pro. I have set a song as the SMS ringtone, but the phone continues to play the song to the end, long after I have read the text. This is really annoying when you are receiving a steady stream of texts. All my previous phones have stopped the ringtone when opening the text message. Is this a Sony Ericsson feature, or an Android feature? More importantly, is there a phone setting that will stop the ringtone upon pressing a key/screen like a conventional phone?
Since the latest lolly update, the "chat service" has disappeared as an option from the stock messaging app. The one where your texts were coloured yellow if they were being sent over the internet rather than an SMS. This is very frustrating, as I was just extolling the virtues of this feature to my wife who has the Z3C, I have the Z3. She raves about What'sApp you see. Now "Chat" is gone! It's not even in the settings menu as "enable chat service" anymore... Have deleted data from app etc to no avail. It has gone from both our 'phones BTW.
Today my phone started reading my emails out loud as they arrived. I don't think I changed any settings, but I can't make it stop! I have tried pulling my battery and it still happens when it's set to silent.
Finally the ICS update has become available for my phone (SI 1253-7151) -PC Companion pops up a message about the new update. If I click "Update", PC Companion starts downloading the update, finishes the download and says "Preparing computer for program updates". Then it proceeds to "Unable to install or start components for update of phone system" and my phone does not get updated. Then I have tried Sony Update Service, but now I can't even start it properly; the program crashes right after opening it. It just says "Synchronizing" and then "An unexpected error has occured. The application will shut down." so I never get any possibility to see why.Again, my phone does not get updated. Since both programs crash there must be a serious problem with the downloaded files (and they're probably shared between the programs?).Apparently I'm not the only one experiencing it; I can see in a Norwegian forum that other people have the same problem - and in the original thread that you have hidden (!).
PS. The original thread was not mine; I just replied to it since I had the exact same problem. Regarding the new "moderation strategy" I believe that the above question is not rude, it's not spam - and reposting the question is necessary when the issue has not been resolved and the original thread has disappeared..
I have two phones, one that I need to send back to apple and its replacement. I did a clean JB install on the new phone. I was wrongly under the impression that ANY restore, even from a backup, would kill the JB. so I saved my contacts, calendar, call history, and texting, files from the old phone to my desktop via SSH (ifunbox). Then I “ported” those saved files onto the new phone. Later I discovered that the phone app would not open, just kept crashing. While I could not open the phone app, I was able to receive calls, however, I had no phone tools like speaker phone or mute. I replaced the contact and call history files again (copied from the old phone) and that fixed the problem, although the contacts are now sorted by last name instead of first name which kinds sucks... Now I discovered that the messaging app crashes when I hit send. It will open fine, and it has all my texts in it, but crashes when I hit send. I just had a friend text me and I did not get the text.
Here is what I think I did wrong: I think, although I cannot be certain, that I may have put the files into the wrong directory. That is, I may have put them into var/mobile/library instead of private/var/mobile/library. The messaging app still works in the old phone, albeit without a sim card in it. I suppose I should just copy both these files again from the old phone and put them onto the new one, but since I am new at this, and do not have my ECID stored on cydia, I need to be VERY careful not to screw things up AGAIN lol or it will be 3.1.3 for me . So I need someone experienced to tell me how to best proceed??
My mini pro refuses to make a sound (it simply vibrates) whenever a text message comes in, even though it's not on silent and I've got the volume turned up all the way.I was curious as to if this has something to do with a padlock icon that has appeared in the right hand corner of the main display, next to the reception bars. I have no idea how it got there or what it does, and I can't find any info about it
I'm hoping someone here can help me! When I receive a text from one particular contact in my phone book, the number displayed is a combination of 4 different numbers, all of which belong to different contacts in my phone book. When I reply the text is sent to the first number of the four which is not the contact who sent me the text! None of these four contacts are connected, nor are they adjacent in my contacts list! I tried deleting the contact affected and then adding back in but this did not fix it. I'm pretty sure this is an issue with the phone rather than the network (3) as all four numbers displayed are contacts of mine and it only happens with one particular contact. It is the proverbial pain in the I've just installed Handcent SMS,
My xperia x10 has started to send text messages that I didn't write to one of my contacts!!!! All the messages are the same "Ppppp" Yesterday they all had a scrolling circle beside them and message details said unable to send sender unknown.I deleted them but they kept coming back at least a dozen of them at at random times. Today they are being sent. By each message there is a envelope with a clock icon. This is happening while the phone is not being used by anyone and is sitting on a table, so its not as if it is being touched by anything in my handbag or pocket.I was using the Handcent App but it was also happening in the installed messaging software. I have uninstalled Handcent and am using the supplied messaging programme. Also getting a lot of force closing messages when I try to send a genuine text.
I successfully updated to the official Vodafone release using SEUS, loving the update so far but I've come across a problem with text messages.
Every couple of text messages they won't send and instead I get the message cannot be sent error. Trying repeated times has the same results then all of a sudden it will randomly work.
It can't be down to bad signal, last time the error came up I had full 'H' signal. I also tried Handcent to see if using an app would make any difference but it didnt. Are there any known bugs that sound like this
I've just registered on here after searching for a similar issue without luck, so apologies if I've missed a thread!Carried out the 2.1 upgrade the other night, and since then whenever I write a text message, the suggested word box only gives me words from my contacts list. e.g. if I write "to" the phone suggest "Tommy" and I then need to manually select "to" from the list of words.
It makes no difference whether I have the spellcheck set to auto, manual or off I get the same suggested list - it's as if the phone has lost its dictionary, and can only use the contacts list as a point of reference.
Z5 Compact. For some reason, the text input field in the Messaging app keeps disappearing. I can be texting someone back and forth and then, completely at random, the text input field at the bottom vanishes making it impossible to return a text. Â Only solution I have found to this issue is to restart the phone and the Messaging app goes back to normal. Phone has been fantastic other than this and would be super if I could get this very annoying issue sorted.
I have an unusual issue I would like some assistance on since I just got a blackberry, I have the Curve 2 8530. I use Total Call Blocking with my carrier so that when I call anyone my number is automatically blocked / restricted. Therefore, in my contact list, I have my friends or family contacts listed with the *82 in front of the number to unblock for those people. This works fine for phone calls.
However, on Text Messaging / Picture Messaging, the *82 will cause these messages to fail. I am used to LG phones, you have the ability to edit the number while creating a message, before your send one of these messages. The problem I am having is when I send a Text Message / Picture Message it appears from the blackberry as only the 10 digit number (even though the contact has *82 in front of it)...and the message shows it is sent (with the check mark) but it NEVER received.
I'd been sending text messages during the evening, then I went to reply to a text as normal and the keyboard had changed without me doing anything? It changed from the normal "qwerty" keyboard to the old style keyboard, with the abc on button "a", def on button "b", ghi on button "c" if that makes sense, like on old phones? It was like that all night. Switched my phone off at night as normal, switched it back on again in the morning and it was back to the "qwerty" keyboard again. Does anyone know what caused this to happen, it was really strange!!And I quite liked that old style keyboard, I dont know what the technical term for it is, but it was much quicker and less mistakes typing a message than the qwerty keyboard?
When checking the online tutorial via AT&T's website it walks me through how to send a text message to someone in my contacts list from the text messaging screen. Once I start typing their name, it should start to automatically come up. When I try to do this on the phone, it won't do it. Do I really have to enter someone's phone number in order to do this? What if I want to add more than one person which is not an easy task either. I found where people are being told to download an app called Handcent SMS which will resolve the multiple people issue but what about accessing my contacts just by starting to type their name in the "To" line?
How do I see my sent box, inbox etc. All I see on the home screen is in the top left corner an envelope I can press to compile a text message. Where is my inbox, sent box etc? Also how do I delete a draft message? Can't see a delete option anywhere?
I dont like the conversation set up in in text messaging, is there anyway you can change the settings to just show the messages instead of being grouped as a conversation?
