Trying to update my phone and backup and restore contacts, msgs etc before, but when i press backup it keeps telling me to insert memory card. Mine is already in the phone, always has been, tried taking out n put back in again, turning phone on n off etc. still saying to insert a memory card!

It's not a new thing that my phone restarts alone time to time(!) but recently I notice that any time I touch the 'backup and restore' app to close it from the 'on going' applications (what does it there?), the phone blocks directly and have to enter my code as if it was restarted again.

The old backup software was removed so i downloaded a new one from sony website. However this downloads but will not install - says 'Application not installed' with a tick by it ! and so I can;t restore my phone information.

i updated to Gingerbread last nite and didnt know id lose the back up and restore function until i read it on this board. Ive tried to follow your instructions on how to get it back (ive downloaded OI file manager) but after that im lost!!! I wouldnt know where to start on trying to find the back up and restore as theres so many files on there? Also, one of my apps in particular hasnt appeared on my phone (maybe because it was a free one)? and i desp need it back as i stored all my passwords, log ins and pins on there and im totally lost without it....is there anyway i can retrieve all the info that was on it? Only about 20% of my phone book is showing and it says the SIM card is not available, none of my Apps returned and a theme I paid £1.99 for hasn't loaded properly as it's only got the wallpaper and none of the modified icons.My full contact list is still on the SIM card as I checked it in my previous phone that my Dad now has so why isn't it appearing on my phone? It's extremely inconvenient not having access to it as I don't have a back up anywhere else and most of the missing numbers are the ones I use regularly.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOk, i have updated my phone so many times and nothing has ever gone wrong, i have always backed up my files in the "Backup and Restore" App and there has never been a problem. I have just updated my phone with latest update and it has wiped my Apps including the "Backup and Restore" app! (My files are always sent to my memory card with no problem) Now i cannot restore any of my files and its really F***ed me off, The Xperia 10 has to be the faultiest phone i have ever had, even when the phone is locked and in my pocket it manages to change my settings and forwards messages to random people!

I backed up my contacts, messages, call logs everything.When the phone was updated and I restored everything contacts are missing all the rest are there.A little background to know. For some reason Xperia X10 cannot read my SIM contacts from the day I bought it when we were on 1.6 so I decided to create an CSV file to add them to the mobile memory not to the SIM.So now what? View 9 Replies View RelatedI tried to download a ringtone and my phone then told me it needed to restore because of the updates. I transferred my purchases over but stupidly didn't make a back up. After restorting I realised the most recent back up I had was for April. So I used that back up. However does anybody know whether it is possible, in any way, for me to get my phone restored back to just before it decided to restore. I've tried looking through the forums but have had no luck.

Followed the instalation to the letter, backed up my files using the new backup n restore etc, updated it n then began the restore, now this is the frustration part. i did everything SE said to do even did 2 backups but when i try to restore it takes ages n then says could not complete. not only have i lost all contacts but more frustrating i have lost all my apps, both paid and free. my google account seems to be wrong although i cant realy remember it, tryed to get the user name/password sent to my hotmail but seems to of created a new account n i dont have these "links to re-downloads" ur android apps.

Today I went to update my X10. While at work it wouldn't allow me to as it insisted I connected it to a computer. So at home I got the USB cabled hooked up to my Linux Laptop and then discovered it had to be a windows computer.Anyway, I got it hooked to a Windows computer and the update process began. I followed every instruction and set all tickboxes for backup.After unplugging this and plugging it back in and rebooting here and there, it finally reached the restore process.I left it restoring for a while. When I came back to it, it said something had crashed. I don't know what as I'd just woken from a nap.But, it seems all my applications are restored. Yet my gmail account & Facebook account have become disassociated from my phone and all my contacts no longer have any names or pictures. I opened the contacts/phone book and the list is completely empty. tried to import contacts but it says it cannot find any anywhere.
View 3 Replies View Relatedtoday i just upgrade my xperia mini pro SK17i to build number 4.0.2.A.0.58, after this update, my back and menu button begin to be unresponsive or lagged significantly, the backlight of these two button also not turn on.the responsiveness of home button is not affected at all, so I'm not sure what is the source of the problem here.for example, let me demonstrate here:
1. unlock my phone - by slide to right > press the corner shortcut - animation is smooth > press the mail icon - open mail and I can imediately scroll down with no lag > press back button...wait up to 3 second and then it go back to home screen or worse it not registered anything, is it like I didnt press the back button

what can make something like this happen? if this is software related action 1 and action 2 should be the same right? this is like some software component after update didn't detect the capacitive button correctly or something.there is option to repair this phone but it mean that I will loose all things in main memory, I will use this option as the last resort, but for now I would like to hear other opinion about this.other annoying stuff after this update:
- the APN setting was deleted so I must enter it again
- before update there is mcafee viruscan and mcafee wavesecure, after update it change into mcafee viruscan and mcafee security, and the mcafee security is not compatible with viruscan!! so I must delete viruscan, not that im using it tho, but still.
- there is some carrier spesific app that can be deleted but after boot restart showed up again
Today my JB'd 3G on 3.1.2 went into a funky state and I attempted to reboot. Since then I've been stuck on the Apple logo at start up and nothing.
So, i put the phone in DFU mode and Itunes 9 is giving me the option to "Update & Restore", HOWEVER, I dont want to do this because I want to stay on 3.1.2 for obvious reasons. I also have been reading stuff about SHSH but I have no clue what this is so one can assume I never did anything prior regarding SHSH.
When itunes has the pop up on the screen saying "update and restore" can I hold "shift and click "update&restore" to choose a 312 ipsw, or is that option only available if restoring without being in DFU mode.
it keeps shutting off and turning back on randomly after the latest update?
