Sony Ericsson :: W995 - Latest Download Now Means My Phone Will Not Access Internet Properly
Jun 12, 2010
Can anyone help please I downloaded the latest update for my W995 handset about 2 weeks ago and now have a load of problems, it will now not access the Internet. Says "Communication error. Please try again or turn off WiFi or contact support provider" the Wifi is def turned off - Orange have tried to fix it by sending me new settings and then turning off phone etc though not worked. It will also not now send emails and cannot locate any phone update via the handset from Sony
Went to use the google map application the other day, and whilst it was generating route it complained it had lost signal.True, signal was dead, 3g or otherwise. However, GPS was still up and live so no route completed as it complained no network. Why does it need network to run?Seems pointless as you cannot guarantee a signal. for example, on my route home from work for the 45min drive I have an orange signal for about 10mins.
Newbie to the Forum (Hello all) Just got a new W995 - (however didn't want to pay for the data download limits for the internet) From what I hear you can surf T'interweb via wifi for free however when I log onto wifi I can't get an T'internet browser up Do I need some software from the all seeing god that is Sony Ericsson?
I updated the W995 firmware yesterday using SEUS. After update firmware is R1HA035. But according to the forums on this site the latest is R1HA036. Why didn't I get the latest? Also after update I turned my phone on and I got the long please wait message. During this message I got a pop up message for Daylight savings update and I selected yes then back to the please wait message. Then phone started normal. Did the pop message effect the firmware installation and shall I reinstall firmware or is everything ok?
Has anyone else noticed this?, I've tried various music (encoded at different rates which sound fantastic on other audio equipment) and different headphones (via both sockets on the phone). My mate who is in a band and heavily into audiophile stuff agrees that the sound quality is terrible. My old w810i is far better. The top end is to harsh but without any definition and whenever I use one of the EQ settings the music seems to get muddied up and even slightly louder and quieter in sections. I am wondering if this either a bad phone or something to do with the firmware that O2 (UK) uses (I know they alter it as google maps and wayfinder aren't installed). I have used the update service which states I am running the latest firmware. The phone is going back but if the next one is the same then I may have to move phones.
I have had the W995 for close to a month now on a contract from Virgin and I am very pleased with it in almost every aspect apart from one!
The problem is as follows. When I connect to my WI-FI via the W995 I wait until I get confirmation that I am connected and then I attempt to access the internet via the browser provided by Sony Ericsson. After a short time I get the message 'Communication error. Try again, turn off Wi-Fi or contact your provider for support'. I have tried many things to fix this problem. I have spoken to Sony Ericsson and they suggested altering my security settings on the router. I have tried using Opera Mini as an alternative browser and perhaps 2 or 3 times it worked for a minute or two and then it failed. I have searched quite a few websites and seen that an awful lot of people have the same problem without getting anywhere with it. There are occasional suggestions that I have read and tried such as manually configuring the service and putting various IP addresses into my phone but nothing works!
I got a new Elm (T-Mobile Germany branded) some days ago and after trying all functions (no problems found), I had it updated to the latest firmware R7CA061 with SEUS. (I've found some threads concerning Elm and GPS-problems in this forum, but they weren't connected to R7CA061). After the update, GPS does not work properly any more, or in other words: it does not really work at all! Neither Assisted GPS (I only tried A-GPS using WIFI) nor unassisted GPS does work. I do not get a lock on my location with Google Maps, also after waiting for more than 10 minutes.
My GPS-position is "jumping around" on the map about one kilometer around my actual position. It's completely inaccurate! I have the feeling that it's even getting worse after some minutes. I also tried the GPS test in the service menu: doesn't work! Switched GPS off and on again: doesn't work! Tried AGPS and GPS: doesn't work! Completely shut down and switch the Elm on again: doesn't work. After reinstalling the latest firmare using SEUS once again - GPS works (assisted and unassisted) and also the GPS test from the service menu works properly. But then, after some minutes, GPS seems to fade away again somehow.
I have no problem using anything else that requires an Internet connection through Wi-Fi, such as browsing, email and GPS.However, when A-GPS is enabled when using any location service application, the phone will use the mobile network (O2 in my case) to access the server even when connected to a Wi-fi network (my own wireless router).Everything else will use Wi-Fi by default, when connected, but A-GPS seems to be the exception.Has anyone else encountered this problem with the W995 and do you know why? Is it perhaps network related?
I have started using the Tracker application on my w995 for my recording my running session. I save the results on the phone and get a message saying that they have been saved as standard .gpx file on my memory card. My questions are (1) how do I find them on the card, (2) how can I transfer/download them to my MacBook and (3) what software can I read them with on my Mac; will they work with Google Maps for instance?
Have just got my w995 on orange contract and am still finding my way around it. In the menu there is a icon called App Shop and when I access it an error message "failed to download catalogue" appears whether by wifi or internet connection. I realise that the playnow website is for getting apps ,games, music etc so is this app shop function no longer in use? or do I have a problem? If this app shop icon is indeed defunct then is there a way to delete it ? I have updated all my software and also used the update phone function to check firmware and all was ok.
Does anybody know a way or an application I can download that would allow me to have timed profiles on my SE phone (W995)? I used to have a Nokia phone where you could have a timed profile where you could set it to silent until say 5pm when I left work. This was handy because I usually forget to change the profile on my phone. It was also handy when going to see a movie, I could set it to go back to the normal profile about 2 1/2 hours after the movie started. I know it's simple enough to change it yourself but I always forget to change it and end up kicking myself when it's on silent and I miss a few calls or texts.
I have been trying to email pictures and other media files using my W995 but it says I need to contact Sony Ericsson to configure it. Exactly what is needed to configure the phone for e-mail communication? When I try to send it just says "Server-message. Access denied: Free users cannot access this server.
I am trying to use PC suite to connect to internet. It says connected but nothing works. I need to define proxy settings but I cant find where to. In help it says if it uses proxy settings uncheck server settings but I cant find any of this.
I've had my phone for at least a year now and suddenly today it won't turn on. This also happened maybe 30mins-1hr after turning it off. It was working fine but now no matter how I try turning it on, the buttons just light up and it vibrates but nothing comes on the screen. Is this a battery problem or a screen problem? I have to take out the battery before I can try turning it on again. And also it won't charge. I tried searching for answers but haven't found anything.
When I try to send a message my W995 says "Phone memory full. Delete one or more files of your choice". When I select "yes" it calls up a list of file boxes, but none can be deleted. I've scanned the net and it does seem to be a common problem, but I can't find an answer.
Okay I have tried both A2 Uploader and JDFlasher to flash my W995 but it's not working the phone is not recognized at all by the computer.
Every time it enters memory transfer mode I have installed the Gordon's Gate Setup and I make sure of turning the phone off and holding C then the application will search for the phone nothing will happen
Then the application will give up looking for the phone and then the phone enters USB transfer mode.
Well I just recently purchased a Sony Ericsson W995. I think its fantastic but I don't think the security is all that great. I know you have a pin code and a phone lock code (For when you are switching the phone on), but is their anything to lock your phone with while its switched on (Like a code to input to unlock your phone?).
I want another high end feature phone from SE. Satio is the only 12MP phone out there. Can we not have one with a good flash, more memory, 8MP camera and better video? slider? The W995 is not sitting 2nd in the phones4 u chart for nothing. The iphone is top and the satio is no where to be seen as it's a brick and useless. Touch screen phones should always be an oiption but not the standard!..oh and no Symbian either!
I am new to this forum and my W995 phone I have taken pictures and videos with it they are excellent quality, but although they transferred to my computer, I can't transfer the videos to a disc.
I have a second hand W995, and it had a phone lock on their but I've forgot the code to it. Is there anyway I can factory reset the phone, without actually being on the menu?
gambled and SEUS said a new firmware update was available for my W995, so being a fool, i backed it all up and ran the procedure. No errors, unplug and powered her on.Now its been sat at the Please Wait with full status bar for about 3hrs now. Can i just power cycle it? what is best way to do this? Will it do damage? Is my phone shot?
W995 has an indoor 3G signal problem. When you hold it in your hand like you mostly do, 3G signal disappears and the phone switches to 2G mode. Hence, outside of the buildings the phone generally keeps 3G signals without any problem. Checked it with another 3G capable GSM Operator's line but nothing changes. I can not make video calls when I'm home. I've got the latest software for my phone.
Can anyone tell me how to access internet via a USB connection to my pc, thereby using the pc's internet connection? I have activated the function on the Hazel.
First off, a bit of background. I bought an ELM (unlocked) off of eBay. I was able to put an ASDA sim in and it is fine for calls etc. However, I'm very puzzled as to what is going on with the internet settings. I contacted ASDA and they sent the appropriate setting for my phone but whenever I try to use Opera Mini , Bolt, GPS or anything else Internet related the connection fails almost immediately. What doubly puzzles me is that if I press the O2 softkey a page comes up which says 'It looks like your using wifi (which I'm definitely NOT) but then that page allows me to browse to other pages (BBC etc). The phone has clearly originally been on O2 and it's almost like something in there has grabbed the internet and won't let go so it's the ONLY internet page I can access. I've tried hard resets as suggested by ASDA etc.
I just would like to know: How can I possibly know if I have the latest software on my phone? Also, can anyone teach me how to read this on the phone (this is for the software version):
1225-2477 R1HA035 091210 SonyEricsson Would you be advising me to get an update?
