Sony Ericsson :: W995 - WIFI - Internet

I have had the W995 for close to a month now on a contract from Virgin and I am very pleased with it in almost every aspect apart from one!

The problem is as follows.
When I connect to my WI-FI via the W995 I wait until I get confirmation that I am connected and then I attempt to access the internet via the browser provided by Sony Ericsson. After a short time I get the message 'Communication error. Try again, turn off Wi-Fi or contact your provider for support'. I have tried many things to fix this problem. I have spoken to Sony Ericsson and they suggested altering my security settings on the router. I have tried using Opera Mini as an alternative browser and perhaps 2 or 3 times it worked for a minute or two and then it failed. I have searched quite a few websites and seen that an awful lot of people have the same problem without getting anywhere with it. There are occasional suggestions that I have read and tried such as manually configuring the service and putting various IP addresses into my phone but nothing works!

Newbie to the Forum (Hello all) Just got a new W995 - (however didn't want to pay for the data download limits for the internet) From what I hear you can surf T'interweb via wifi for free however when I log onto wifi I can't get an T'internet browser up Do I need some software from the all seeing god that is Sony Ericsson?

Went to use the google map application the other day, and whilst it was generating route it complained it had lost signal.True, signal was dead, 3g or otherwise. However, GPS was still up and live so no route completed as it complained no network.Why does it need network to run?Seems pointless as you cannot guarantee a signal. for example, on my route home from work for the 45min drive I have an orange signal for about 10mins.

I have no problem using anything else that requires an Internet connection through Wi-Fi, such as browsing, email and GPS.However, when A-GPS is enabled when using any location service application,the phone will use the mobile network (O2 in my case) to access the server even when connected to a Wi-fi network (my own wireless router).Everything else will use Wi-Fi by default, when connected, but A-GPS seems to be the exception.Has anyone else encountered this problem with the W995 and do you know why? Is it perhaps network related?

Sony W995, and with my Cell Provider plan, i don't have internet.I got internet on my landline. But when i connect to my wifi network, i can use the phone to browse the web, but when i try to open applications that require internet (such as facebook app), it won't connect through the wifi it gives me the following: Connect using: the setting is empty, if i enter, i should add a data account, i don't know what's that Allow local conn: Yes Then it won't connect.

had the phone 2 days on 02 and already been told by them that Internet doesnt work on w995 and 02 (great move) now i am having problems with wi-fi i search and find 5 networks near me, 3 are password secure, but two are open, security none and i connect to it. green icons comes up tells me i am connected but then when i go to iplayer or internet get the wifi error (commuication error, try again, turn off wi-fi contact service provider)but if the neighbours btopenword is open surely i should be able to connect through that as its not password protected even thought its not mine? any idea whats wrong?

Can anyone help please I downloaded the latest update for my W995 handset about 2 weeks ago and now have a load of problems, it will now not access the Internet. Says "Communication error. Please try again or turn off WiFi or contact support provider" the Wifi is def turned off - Orange have tried to fix it by sending me new settings and then turning off phone etc though not worked. Sony Ericsson :: W995 Opera Mini 5 No Longer Connecting Over Wifi

I recently had to format my W995 as it was getting sluggish. It used to take a really long time to load once the phone was switched off. (It could be due to the mods though. The only two mods were Rodriguez' HDX 3.0 cam driver and LightEffects V3.) And finally, the other day, the phone turned unresponsive and I had to restart the phone but it would just show the standby screen and the screen would just turn off and turn on again.
I had to flash it with SEUS and it works well now. My only issue is that Opera Mini 5 (and the versions before that i.e. 4.2) simply doesn't work over wifi. It now only works using my 3G connection. It used to work perfectly fine before flashing. The Netfront browser does work over wifi and I've even manually entered the IP address, DNS, Gateway etc. Any ideas on where I'm going wrong? Local connections are enabled and other programs can connect over wifi.

I have just purchased a used Satin phone and I am having problems trying to connect to the INTERNET using the WI-if. I can go to websites but when i try to log-in it goes back to the menu screen. Is there something i need to change in the settings? I have downloaded the latest update but this hasn't made any difference. My vivaz can't connect to internet via WiFi (router tp-link) when connection is secured I already checked all possible combinations. When I take off the password from the router there is no problem at all. Another weird thing is I can access router webpage whilst connection is secured but that is it. My router is showing all the time that connection is associated and authorized. Didn't test this phone on other WiFi points.

I have just acquired a W995 & have set up a Wi-Fi link to my home network but am not sure if it is using that instead of my Mobile Phone connection. The Wi-Fi icon is green but when I try to connect to the internet a small e appears above the signal strength bars. Using a French network provider, my data allowance is very small, so would prefer to use Wi-Fi to pick up e-mail & other internet services. How can I force a Wi-Fi connection if one is available ?

I just bought my Hazel yesterday night, trying the WiFi n widget (which only appear in some theme and have 5 widgets appear) and found that a lot of the applications are not there, so as advice in written in paper inside the box, I downloaded the update service software into PC and update to my phone this morning and while doing a light browsing, was amaze that I have whole lot of new applications, games and even theme, but at later of the day, I found out that the I cant surf the net through WiFi, I was able to connect to WiFi, but was unable to surf the Internet.

I'm sure this has been done to death but I can't find any links on here. My phone started not working so I switched off, sincve when it won't go past the Sony logo before the screen goes blank. It is seen by the PC for a few seconds every minute or so, and that's it. I can't do anything with it, and the battery is charged and the sim card is not faulty.

My nearly 1 year old W995 has just started to switch itself off for no reason. Battery is charged and have tried a replacement battery also. There is no pattern and just happens at random 2-3 times a day. Have tried the software update but it still happens. Only way to clear the problem is to remove the battery and then it will restart!

Is there anyone with a W995 (Brown cert) with the latest fw R1HA036 who can extract the mentioned app? I'm quite bummed that the new fw doesn't allow manual installation for the Facebook app I've been using since the last fw. It's strange that after the fw update my APAC-ANZ doesn't come with it while another phone with the same CDA and fw does. Actually it does allow manual installation, it just doesn't integrate itself with the phone anymore, ie. able to log on but I can't view any of the pictures, there's no Facebook link for 'send to' in the photo gallery which used to allow me to upload photos directly to my Facebook page etc. Am kinda wondering if any of you kind souls could help me out with this.

I have downloaded the latest version of the Ericsson pc suite successfully to my computer. However when I plug the usb cable in and go through the connecting proceedure it get rights the way to the end and then a grey box appears with an error message, send error report, don't send error report and which ever one you click shuts down the pc suite and you have to go through it all again for the same error report at the end!
