Newbie to the Forum (Hello all) Just got a new W995 - (however didn't want to pay for the data download limits for the internet) From what I hear you can surf T'interweb via wifi for free however when I log onto wifi I can't get an T'internet browser up Do I need some software from the all seeing god that is Sony Ericsson?
View 1 RepliesWent to use the google map application the other day, and whilst it was generating route it complained it had lost signal.True, signal was dead, 3g or otherwise. However, GPS was still up and live so no route completed as it complained no network.Why does it need network to run?Seems pointless as you cannot guarantee a signal. for example, on my route home from work for the 45min drive I have an orange signal for about 10mins.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have had the W995 for close to a month now on a contract from Virgin and I am very pleased with it in almost every aspect apart from one!
The problem is as follows.
When I connect to my WI-FI via the W995 I wait until I get confirmation that I am connected and then I attempt to access the internet via the browser provided by Sony Ericsson. After a short time I get the message 'Communication error. Try again, turn off Wi-Fi or contact your provider for support'. I have tried many things to fix this problem. I have spoken to Sony Ericsson and they suggested altering my security settings on the router. I have tried using Opera Mini as an alternative browser and perhaps 2 or 3 times it worked for a minute or two and then it failed. I have searched quite a few websites and seen that an awful lot of people have the same problem without getting anywhere with it. There are occasional suggestions that I have read and tried such as manually configuring the service and putting various IP addresses into my phone but nothing works!
Can anyone help please I downloaded the latest update for my W995 handset about 2 weeks ago and now have a load of problems, it will now not access the Internet. Says "Communication error. Please try again or turn off WiFi or contact support provider" the Wifi is def turned off - Orange have tried to fix it by sending me new settings and then turning off phone etc though not worked. It will also not now send emails and cannot locate any phone update via the handset from Sony

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have no problem using anything else that requires an Internet connection through Wi-Fi, such as browsing, email and GPS.However, when A-GPS is enabled when using any location service application,the phone will use the mobile network (O2 in my case) to access the server even when connected to a Wi-fi network (my own wireless router).Everything else will use Wi-Fi by default, when connected, but A-GPS seems to be the exception.Has anyone else encountered this problem with the W995 and do you know why? Is it perhaps network related?

But when i connect to my wifi network, i can use the phone to browse the web, but when i try to open applications that require internet (such as facebook app), it won't connect through the wifi it gives me the following: Connect using: the setting is empty, if i enter, i should add a data account, i don't know what's that Allow local conn: Yes Then it won't connect.
View 1 Replies View Relatedhad the phone 2 days on 02 and already been told by them that Internet doesnt work on w995 and 02 (great move) now i am having problems with wi-fi i search and find 5 networks near me, 3 are password secure, but two are open, security none and i connect to it. green icons comes up tells me i am connected but then when i go to iplayer or internet get the wifi error (commuication error, try again, turn off wi-fi contact service provider)but if the neighbours btopenword is open surely i should be able to connect through that as its not password protected even thought its not mine? any idea whats wrong?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently had to format my W995 as it was getting sluggish. It used to take a really long time to load once the phone was switched off. (It could be due to the mods though. The only two mods were Rodriguez' HDX 3.0 cam driver and LightEffects V3.) And finally, the other day, the phone turned unresponsive and I had to restart the phone but it would just show the standby screen and the screen would just turn off and turn on again.
I had to flash it with SEUS and it works well now. My only issue is that Opera Mini 5 (and the versions before that i.e. 4.2) simply doesn't work over wifi. It now only works using my 3G connection. It used to work perfectly fine before flashing. The Netfront browser does work over wifi and I've even manually entered the IP address, DNS, Gateway etc. Any ideas on where I'm going wrong? Local connections are enabled and other programs can connect over wifi.
Can anyone tell me how to access internet via a USB connection to my pc, thereby using the pc's internet connection? I have activated the function on the Hazel.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFirst off, a bit of background. I bought an ELM (unlocked) off of eBay. I was able to put an ASDA sim in and it is fine for calls etc. However, I'm very puzzled as to what is going on with the internet settings. I contacted ASDA and they sent the appropriate setting for my phone but whenever I try to use Opera Mini , Bolt, GPS or anything else Internet related the connection fails almost immediately. What doubly puzzles me is that if I press the O2 softkey a page comes up which says 'It looks like your using wifi (which I'm definitely NOT) but then that page allows me to browse to other pages (BBC etc). The phone has clearly originally been on O2 and it's almost like something in there has grabbed the internet and won't let go so it's the ONLY internet page I can access. I've tried hard resets as suggested by ASDA etc.

I have just purchased a used Satin phone and I am having problems trying to connect to the INTERNET using the WI-if. I can go to websites but when i try to log-in it goes back to the menu screen. Is there something i need to change in the settings? I have downloaded the latest update but this hasn't made any difference. It may be something simple, i know but as its a new phone for me i am not sure what to do.

No matter if I am trying to login to my home WLAN or using an open hotspot - I get a mixture of messages but no WiFi access: "Out of network area, not available, error in communication etc.". I am not using any data plan, just plain prepaid on FIDO.ca - therefore a phone able to use WiFi.Sometimes the Hazel briefly logs-in to my home WLAN, but than immediately drops out on an ongoing basis, i.e. in/out continuously when in auto-login mode. If it stays in for longer than 30 sec. (rarely) and I select 'Internet' I am prompted to choose a network provider - something I don't want when using my WLAN. I never had the chance to use the browser or any internet service at all. I updated the phone software 2 days ago - no improvement!

I use bluetooth PAN to connect my laptop to the internet using my phone. I have another laptop that doesn't have bluetooth. It does have WiFi. I would like to turn my C905 into a WiFi hotspot. I have WiFi working on the phone but it doesn't have settings for AdHoc or anything that will let me turn it into a access point.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy vivaz can't connect to internet via WiFi (router tp-link) when connection is secured I already checked all possible combinations. When I take off the password from the router there is no problem at all. Another weird thing is I can access router webpage whilst connection is secured but that is it. My router is showing all the time that connection is associated and authorized. Didn't test this phone on other WiFi points.

My xDSL provider provides me with a wireless router which I have been using for ten years with no problem. I get 5 public IP addresses and when they are all assigned to MAC addresses I simply restart the xDSL modem to connect a new device. The following happens when I connect to my xDSL WiFi connection.
1. I have to enter the WEP security code (why doesn't Satio remember this so I don't have to enter it each time?)
2. It gives the message 'Connecting to my Wifi node'
3. It gives the message 'Checking internet connectivity' (I am assuming it is checking to see if the IP address is assigned)
4. It tries to go to my homepage www.google.com (shows a blank screen)
5. Then it times out and gives me an error message "Internet: No gateway reply" HOW DO I SEE WHAT IP ADDRESS HAS BEEN ASSIGNED BY MY WIFI NODE?

The Wi-Fi icon is green but when I try to connect to the internet a small e appears above the signal strength bars. Using a French network provider, my data allowance is very small, so would prefer to use Wi-Fi to pick up e-mail & other internet services. How can I force a Wi-Fi connection if one is available ?
