Samsung Galaxy S II :: It Is Using Excessive Data Storage
May 1, 2012
I have just upgraded from a Nokia N8 to an S2 and have been alarmed at how much data I am using compared to my previous phone. My email application used 373mb of data in two days just synching two Hotmail accounts, and I don't get many emails! My Nokia was set to use push email every 15 minutes and hardly used any of my 1Gb allowance on Virgin mobile UK. I have had to set my S2 to never synch and do it manually instead, which is rather annoying upgrading to a phone which can't do what my older one did perfectly, I am using the S2 's own data usage tool to monitor my usage,I assume it is accurate?
I use a blackberry 9360 Device Edited content to comply withCommunity GuidelinesandTerms and Conditions of Use. using Cosmote Greece network. The last two months it seems from my accounts that I have used more than 400 MB internet using blackberry net. The impressive think is that it hasn't changed anything in the way I use me phone and the extra applications installed in me phone are whatsapp and facebook (these application were installed and used by me long before these last two months). How can you explain all that charges? Is something wrong with blackberry net or it has to do with me network provider? For example it seems in my account that in a specific day 14.06.2012 at 14:55:15 i used 115061 KB through Blackberry net and some seconds later at 14:55:22 I used 9 KB through internet from my provider?
I recently picked up an LG Optimus 7 (Telus) and have noticed that idle data usage is around 2-5MB per hour! (Determined under data usage after logging into [URL]This seems quite excessive to me - what exactly is being transferred? This even happens at night when I'm not getting any emails at all! Here is what I have linked on my phone:
1. 1 GMAIL address (IMAP with Calendar and Contacts Sync'd)
2. 1 Yahoo(Rogers) email address (IMAP)
3. The Weather Channel app that updates the weather in a tile
Is there anything I should check/tweak to reduce this?
I've been googling around and haven't found an answer on how the fingerprint data is stored on the phones and is it safe regardless of device encryption?
The S5 implementation of the data was horrible and Samsung is not to concerned it seems. At least Apple clearly outlines how and where the data is stored.
I know some people are not aware that they can clear out cached data (for All Apps). Is it good to clear it out daily? I do realize that you may need to download the same data again say if you are using apps like Facebook and Zedge and many others.
I have an Samsung Galaxy S2, and i have installed alot BIG games, but when i see that my USB STROAGE is almost full, i deleted all games but SD card seems to be full still i downloaded files of games probably thats why my USB STROAGE is full.i tired to search with "my file" but there are alot folders so i cant find games folders...how to clean my USB STROAGE without Formatting USB STROGE?
I use my s2 as a storage device to transfer files between home and work but the free space on my usb storage seems to be lower than it should be.The total space says 11.50gb and between pictures, audio and downloads etc its says i am using 3.19gb but it lists my free space at 3.67gb so where is the missing 4.64gb? If i recall i used to have over 6gb of free space so im not sure why this has dropped. I havent added any more files since then because once ive transfered my files between home and work i delete them.
Is there a way to move installed apps to the internal 12gb of storage? If I go to manage the app and click "move to sd card" I get an error saying there isn't enough space. I don't have an external sd card in the phone, so this may be why. The problem is I don't want the apps going to an external card, I want to use up the internal storage.
On my nexus s, the button said "move to usb" instead of "move to sd"...
don't say things like, 'why do you need more than 2gb for apps' or 'buy an sd card'.
I have been dragging and dropping files to my OSX 10.6.8 MacBook happily for a while now, but recently my USB connection has failed to work and Kies keeps dropping out. I used to be able to simply plug the USB cable in, click on the drop-down notification and go from there. However, I now have no drop-down (and yes, I have tried a bunch of different cables), and when I go into USB utilities and go through the rigmarole there, I get stuck in an endless loop where it tells me to plug in the cable, and then tells me the cable is plugged in, and I have to "unplug to connect" - it's all very strange.
I have tried it with debugging both on and off and that does not seem to make any difference. At the same time, Kies now is very sticky, and refuses to find the folders I want. I also have Airdroid, which also is doing silly things and will load one file and no others.Has something happened to my S2 ? Is there an easy step to getting things back on track ? I know it is possible to transfer data of all sorts to the SD card with a reader, but that seems to defeat the purpose of everything - it's also a chore and not easy to do in a hurry.
The problem with the SGS II is that there's no connect to PC setting. The other problem is that to connect to as a mass storage device, you have to manually do this every time - In my car, the phone repeatedly beeps at me until I enter the USB connect screen, which is very annoying.
i see in task manager i have System storage 406mb/1.97GB, Usb storage 363mb/11.50gb, so what does that mean to me? 406mb+ 363mb has been used and i have 1.97gb+ 11.50gb of free space to use? or am i reading in incorrectly?Im getting an SD soon by the way(only had the phone since last weekend)
I have to use my phone in mass storage mode in order for it to be seen by my car stereo (Alpine x305s). However, It appears that you can only access the internal memory of the phone in this mode. Strangely, it does have a folder called external_sd, but this seems to reference a folder on the internal space. How I can access my external (32 gig) card.
I have had the SGS S2 for almost two months now, whenever I transfer pictures and music between folders with my external SD Card or to my Phone Storage, they disappear.I can't remember how exactly I moved them, but I remember the last time I cut the files from one folder and pasted to another, and they all just disappeared.
I got a new SAMSUNG Galaxy S6 and in it I am having some essential apps only. Bthe RAM is always been used more than 85%. why it is so and how can I freeup more ram?
I have an unrooted S2 running Android v2.3.4, which I connect to my PC using USB debugging off.I do this because I have the Widgetsoid app installed, and use it for one-click USB mass storage access on my PC when the phone is connected.when I connect via USB however (through Widgetsoid or the "clean" way though the Wireless Settings), my home screen seems to refresh, and the Social Hub icon I have at the bottom of the screen (along with Applications, Call and Contacts) vanishes. This happens every time I mount the mass storage, meaning I have to go into the application menu to drag it back into the tray and save it again, but the same repeats each time.
I recently paired Ankovo headphones to my Galaxy S5. It has resulted in a massive battery drain on my phone (I had to factory reset to get the drain to stop). Is this a known problem and is there anything I can do to keep these devices paired up, or do I need to cease use of wireless headphones?
i've had my iphone fr about 3 months now and its been using insane amounts of data. i use my phone for facebook and flipboard primarily and have never watched Internet over a 3g netowrk before. i do not know why this is happening. help is appreciated.
I notice a new type of storage is introduced called USB Storage. I expect this is the equivalent of the internal SD card of the old SGS. Now when I click on the "Move to SD" button on any of the apps, I get the message "Failed to move application: Not enough memory"
My USB storage currently has 11.42GB. So can onyone shed light as to where I am going wrong here?
And what is the logic of Samsung changing internal SD storage into USB Storage?
Where in the menu is located the on off of the Data transfer? In my Hero there was an widget do do this, on the SII I only find the ones for the WIFI,BT and GPS, what kind of widget do you recomend for it?
I did some digging but haven't come up with workable solution yet. What options do I have to transfer BB address book, calendar, memos and pictures to my GS2? The BB no longer has service.
I have deactivated my APN when its not used to avoid unwanted data usage. But each time to activate or deactivate I need to hardpress the power key and choose the datausage activate and deactivate.
when I plug my S2 into my laptop (Macbook pro) and choose data transI was expecting to see an icon representing the phone show up on the Finder desktop. That's not happening. Instead I'm prompted to "press the home key to quit Samsung Kies" Am I doing something wrong or do I HAVE to open Kies in order to see my phone's memory (32GB SD). My Nokia N8 would just show up on the desktop...not so with the GS2.
PS. Does using the USB invoke Samsung Kies to open up? I'm not seeing anything on my homescreen except the word "Connecting"...and the little dots that indicate the phone is thinking about something,..but nothing ever happens beyond that.
just replaced my iphone 3 for a galaxy s2 although its not connected yet. ive obviously got loads of apps and music on my iPhone which i would like to transfer to the galaxy. a lot of my music has been bought from itunes so i dont want to lose it.is the galaxy compatible with itunes? can i connect the galaxy to itunes and transfer all the music, photos, videos, phone book etc.
Having great difficulty in transferring data/photos from my Galaxy S II to my laptop. When my S II is plugged in to my laptop, within my laptop, it does not recognise the storage device within the S II, but only acknowledges it as "other devices". So therefore I can not enter into the SII device to transfer etc.
