Nokia :: Ovi Maps Still Needs Connection With GPRS
Aug 25, 2010
Before I went to Spain I downloaded the maps of a part of spain and switched of automatic connection to the internet (Allways ask). For the determination of the location only the internal gps is switched on. I don't want any roaming connection to internet during my stay in Spain.Starting OVI maps pops-up immediately the question for a connection to GPRS which I canceled. It is, if a connection is made to GPS, possible to find my possition but finding a route to a address doesn't work. All I get is the question to connect to GPRS and if I canceled that nothing happens, in other words it was not possible to search for a location / planning a route.Do I something wrong or is this standard behaviour of OVI maps?
first, will maps work in 2700 classic at all ? second, will it work offline without using gprs ? third, can i update my maps s/w since .sis file dont work in 2700 ?
I have a E71, "Product code 0558790 and firmware 410.21.010" I use the nokia email messaging software so internet connection type Edge/3G( Vodafone internet ) and the power consuption of 3G connection very high and battery is being empty every day. I charge the battery every day.V300 and older fimware was not draws more current but 3G connection draws more current in the latest V400 and 410 software. How can I extend the battery life of my E71 phone.
I have bought new Nokia 5130 Express Music handset on 26 Dec 2009 and Reliance GSM post paid connection. I have got settings from reliance from GPRS, WAP and MMS setting. The problem faced is whenever, I connect to opera mini browser, it connecting for 3 minutes and shows failed to connect to the internet. I thought, it is GPRS setting or network problem. But, after lot of enquiry with Reliance, they forwarded the settings.
I just got my invoice today and it claims that a lot of times I used the internet, while I only allowed the GPS to use the internet once. What can be the reason for this? How can I make sure my phone does not try to use the GPRS connection?I noticed in the GPS settings that A-GPS is used. Does that use an internet connection?
I am using the Lumia 800 for the past three days and am in love with the phone. Works beautifully on WiFi the naviation once the maps are downlaoded is perfect and the touch and feel of the phone is absolutely brilliant.A sore point in the past three days is the patchy connection to GPRS on Airtel India. I have spent a few hours with their tech support and they are unable to get me online. I have update the firmware to the latest avaialble - 1750.0805.8773.12220 with no luch in connecting to the GPRS connection. The display shows an "E" next to the signal strength indicator but no luck in conncting.
The steps I have tried so far are as follows: a. Settings - Mobile Netwok - APN set to airtelgprs.com which is recomended. b. Used the default Network Setup software to update the settings,Reset the phone to uninstall all applications and bring back to default state assuming that one of the software issued caused this problem. Is there anything else for me to try before I take it to a Nokia Care centre for trouble shooting?
Gmail / Hotmail - Error out with error code 80072EFD.Internet Explorer - not able to access even google
At the moment I have several wifi networks which have higher priority than the gprs data connection. But when i start web browsing it automatically chooses the gprs connection. Why is that?
I am using Nokia Maps 3.03 on my E71 (language: German) plus Nokia Map Loader 3.0, but I am experiencing several problems: Nokia Maps goes online via Internet for a few seconds (which costs me) although I set it to my Wireless connection. How can I switch that off? Every time I load a new map (and voices) via Map Loader and then start the software on my E71, it tells me that the maps are out-dated and I need to delete them. But then I do not see any maps in the software, and also the load of the voice is gone.
The maps in my Nokia X6 16gb are gone after i ran an update in which it says will delete the old maps and voices to replace newer ones. Upon completion of the update, when i checked maps that are available in my device,Instead of new updated maps, there is only 1 map left which is Hong Kong and Macau, and i don't live in either one of it. Tried downloading the maps through the Ovi Suite, always got the message "The connection to the Ovi Maps server timed out"
the problem is the connection gprs is start automatically , when i use the chat or nimbuzz or ebuddy the gprs start automatically i can't work the apliquation with WLAN !
I have a Nokia 5800xm, I use ovi maps mostly off-line but every time I search or turn ovi maps on it keeps asking me for a connection?can someone please help me, its very annoying
I came across a weird problem with online connection. I use a Nokia X6 (16GB) + external bluetooth GPS receiver for faster and more accurate positioning. When I open MAPS and I have bluetooth GPS ON it's impossible to connect to online services like weather, michelin, OVI placemarks sync.It seems the app can't handle a BT and WiFi connection at the same time. Most of the time it can't connect and some times ti crashes. If I turn BT GPS OFF then connection is normal.
No Internet connection in ovi maps, though web works without problems. Program settings/navigation is configured to proper access point. But ovi maps connects to other access point which doesn`t work.
I have just downloaded the latest version of Ovi Maps 3.03 for my Nokia E55. Navigation seems to be working fine, however whenever choosing any functionality which requires the program to go online, it fails with the following error message:"Something went wrong and the connection failed. Please try again" Has anybody got an idea, how this can be fixed? Is this a known bug?
My phone/GPS usage does not justify spending $30/month ($360/year) on a data plan.My E66 with the originally installed Nokia Maps will display my real-time current position on US maps without any data connection. This works just fine to me in the US. However I want to add Belgium and England to my map set.Question 1: Will I lose any existing functionality if I install Ovi Maps? Does Ovi Maps require a data connection to track your current position? Question 2: Are there any easier ways to do what I want to do (add Belgium and England to my map set so that I can find my current position as I can do with US maps).
I'd like to use Ovi Maps without any SIM card inserted. But I fail to obtain "green bars" and GPS fix. With my sim inserted (and the internet connexion available), I don't face any problem using Maps as I get the fix in 3 seconds.
I found that even if I set Ovi maps to "offline", it still sends and receives packet data while the gps is in use. I started a route and after stopping it, I checked the "Log' and I can see more data send and received recorded. I do not have a data plan and would like to know if I am incurring charges in this case. I have a-gps and gps set, so I'm guessing these packets might be due to a-gps? Without a-gps and with gps alone the performance will be pretty bad, right? I have t-mobo and nokia 5230.
Is there some general known issue presently with the maps server? Yesterday, I hardly got anything loaded because the connection was dropped every now and then. Today, I can not get any map downloading properly started. I'd really need to get maps of Italy installed soon.I'm using the lastest Ovi Suite (downloaded and installed yesterday) and N95 8GB. I can get the country list to Ovi Suite application, but when starting the actual download, there is always just "Connection time out, The connection to the Ovi Maps server timed out, Try again".So, is it just me or is there something somebody should fix on server side?
I've been having a lot of problems downloading individual country maps using the Ovi Suite. Occasionally it works, but 95% of the time, the download seems to start ("Preparing") but after a few minutes, I get the following error message: "Connection timeout The connection to the Ovi Maps server timed out.Try again." System: Windows 7, Nokia Ovi Suite 2.2.0.241. My internet connection is fine. Phone: E52, Ovi Maps v. 3.03
It happens very often that Nokia Maps can not reconnect after loosing GPS connection(for example in tunnels)The only way to restart the navigation mode is stop the program and restart it. Therefore the application can not be used as professional navigation solution.
Since installing the new free Maps app, my GPS has failed to work properly. It has no problem getting a good strong fix in "GPS data" and works just fine in my Sports Tracker app, but when I open Ovi Maps, the GPS meter shows alternating pairs of red and gray bars. It seems to get my initial location right, but the centre cursor fades to a dim pink does not move. I've tried to remove Ovi Maps, thinking that perhaps reinstalling it would do the trick, but my attempts to remove it have failed.
Hi have a X6 and loaded ovi maps, worked fine when I had a 3G data connection. now when i dont have one the GPS seems to not work. DO I need a 3G or wifi for it to work or does it work as a stand alone without any data connection.
I have downloaded latest map loader ver. 3.0 from nokia website and it is not running. Every time I start it, it gives an error message "Connection to the map server has been interrupted. Make sure that your internet connection is working and retry. if you are still unable to download, try again later". Everything is fine with my connection. All softwares on phone and ovi suite are updated to latest versions. please help me in this.
I recently bought a 5230 on a talk mobile monthly contract and I'v had a few connection problems. First of all I can't check for updates for my phone or the software on it. I just get an error message which says 'connection error'.Similarly with Maps it simply won't connect to the internet saying 'something went wrong with the connection, please try again'.The other internet accessing functions of the phone, like the browser and ovi store etc, work fine. Does anybody have any ideas as to what the problem might be?
For the past few weeks the Maps program will not connect to the internet. It will bring up the local wifi that is available and say that the connection has failed. But all other uses of the internet are perfectly fine. Tried restarting. Firgured next step is to reinstall the whole thing but wanted to see if there was a solution that comes before that whole bit.
I tried to update my maps definition by checking on Ovi Suite on my PC via USB. Some updated maps were available, but during the update, I've lost the connection with USB. From now, there is no "cities" folder on E: and Ovi Suite can't upload new maps. So I have Ovi maps working but without any Maps ! It says my memory card is full, but there is 28Go available!
1. Can I see what country maps I have downloaded & saved on my N97 anywhere? 2. Whenever I went on the internet with my N95, I had a option how I wished to connect - my netgear router or Mobile web etc.
With N97, It chooses which one I have set on priority, but sometimes I dont want that one. Can I have it so that it asks me everytime I connect like N95?
