Nokia Nseries :: N8 Music Player Leaves Room For Improvement?
Oct 21, 2010First of all, for some reason Nokia have decided to categories Artists AND Albums together, rather than have a separate Artists category and separate Albums category. It seems to work fine if you have an album from a single artist, but seems to be messed up if you have compilation albums (Such as the NOW albums)For example:I know I have Cheryl Cole's "Fight For This Love" on my memory card, which is on NOW 74 Disc I. However, there are no listings for Cheryl Cole, and there is no way for me to browse via album name. Instead, it can weirdly be found listed under Little Boots, along with other tracks from that album.
It seems a little backwards to me, and an illogical way of doing things. I would have much preferred to have had separate options for Artist and Albums. I know I have at least two Cheryl Cole tracks on my memory card, yet the software doesn't seem to recognise them at all, despite the track tags being up-to-date (They appear on all my other phones). This also happens for many other multi-artist albums.
I also found that the equaliser is limited to only five built-in presets, and there doesn't seem to be an option to set the levels yourself, as you could previously on other Nokia handsets in the past. Nokia also seem to be pimping the Shuffle mode on almost every screen in the music player - Moreso than seems normal I think there is definitely room for improvement in regards to the music listening experience, and it feels as if Nokia haven't quite finished the design. If anything, they've broken what was previously a perfect interface on models such as the N91, N82, N95, and N96 et al...

May 6, 2010I was looking forward to new firmware release because of the well-known gps issue but no improvement recognized. Still very slow with drop-outs. Can you inform us if there is a tendency to fix this problem by Nokia?

Jul 9, 2010I am using the E72 now. But I have used almost all E-series (with keyboard) and even back to the 9000 series communicators. So far I am still very puzzled why Nokia cannot do a proper and simple search for CONTACTs. eg. John Smith, IBM, (Address) - Australia xxxx, (cell) 901222*******. You type Smith John, and it will return nothing. You type IBM and will return nothing. You type Australia, it will return nothing. You search the cell number say 9012, it wil return nothing why so dumb. I really don't care how it can connect to the internet, or listen to music or anything extra you can think of. It is a phone and the address book is the most often used pcs of software. Pls improve it with GLOBAL, all field search, instant and fast, even telephone numbers should be searchable. How difficult can that be? I am sure if you open the code, a 16 yr old kid can improve it!

Jun 23, 2010I have just purchased the Nokia x6 which I received on Monday. after 2 days trying to set up the Ovi maps, a friend told me that i had to go into tools, navigation and do something in there for the maps to work but after going into tools I discovered there was no navigation option. The software is has an option for a license key which I don't have and didn't think iI needed as it clearly states on the box 'Free OVI Maps forever' but maps just don't work and I stumped to why there is no navigation option which my friends phone has.

Mar 26, 2010very time when I try to open Options -> Tools -> Setting and after Internet tab to change connection settings the program terminates completely. Other tabs of Settings page (Navigation, Route etc.) works well. Due this bug I can't to go online.I upgraded to Maps v3 but problem still exist.

Mar 23, 2010I have a Nokia N97 on T-Mobile UK with software v21.0.045 This is the latest version I believe. When I check Nokia's website on how to download the free sat nav version of maps my phone won't let me do it. Nokia says I have to go to applications then sw updates. I do not have a software update option via applications. I can check for sw updates via settings - phone - phone mgmt - device updates - options - check for updates. It appears to receive information from t-mobile but does not display anything on the phone. No options to download ovi maps or anything else. Is there a direct download link that i can simply just click and then install the ovi maps 3.03 from my pc suite's application manager.

Jul 6, 2010i recently got a nokia 5230, and i have to give my colpliments to nokia. its an amazing device for the money
but, i have a problem. i used the vodafone sim card i have for the maps, and after some help from the store, i hav managed to get them working. they are fantastic.but here lies the problem: if i use my o2 sim, the maps application refuses to connect, stating a connection failure. however, the web browser works fine.are there any particular setting that i need to make to make the maps app connect when i am using the o2 sim?

On the Advanced Mailbox settings, there is no Incoming mailbox or Outgoing mailbox settings option. I've searched high and low but can't find anything that will let me have access to the Outgoing mailbox.

Dec 2, 2012I was browsing the options under the settings and tried selecting 'feedback to nokia'. A prompt came up (can't remember the exact wording) saying there was a problem with two buttons. One button was to uninstall and the other was to take you to the store entry for this item. The text of the prompt suggested going to the store and trying to install again. If that failed it indicated to select uninstall and then reinstall the 'app' (really a setting option). If I picked the store button the only option I had was to share this app. So I went back to settings and selected the uninstall button. But now I can't find the 'feedback to nokia' when searching the store. So I was wondering how I can reinstall this item under settings.

Sep 11, 2011With the old version of maps I believe that when you chose "Walk" it would provide a path though streets and footpaths from Origin to Destination.Today, in central London I wanted to walk just over 1/2 mile (1km) and asked Maps for a route. It provided one - a straight line between start and destination and not suggesting which streets to use &c.What is teh point of a function if it does not calculate the route?

Jan 5, 2010i've recently started having problems with ovi maps and it's internet settings. i'm not sure when the problem started but whenever i try to access internet settings (because i want to change my connection from wifi to wap) the program just exits back to the nokia menu however all the other menus work fine. i've made a short video to show you exactly what i mean.

as you can see as soon as i press to access the internet menu it kicks me out, but i can access the navigation tab just fine then i tried to go accross to internet settings and it kicks me out again. i have already tried deleting cities folder and .qf file to no avail. i have also tried to go offline before accessing internet settings which didn't work either. i even installed nokia maps 2.0 which wasn't for this phone but installed just wouldn't work then reinstalled ovi 3 to no avail either!

Vignetting is a pretty powerful tool that can help isolate subjects and seems to be a bit of an oversight on Nokia's part to leave it out, considering how good the cams are and the editors have often a good amount of adjustments that save me from running to Lightroom or Silver Efex Pro all the time.

Mar 14, 2012For some reason after upgrading to Belle I have lost the option to switch geo-tagging on in the camera settings. It is just not there where it used to be. I need this for work, that is why I got myself a camera phone with this option.
Anybody have this problem or am I just looking in the wrong place to switch it on / off? It used to be in the camera settings menu,now I have only: image quality - show captured image - default image name - capture tone - memory in use - restore camera settings.

Jul 16, 2012I bought my 808 in Singapore, a country where other brands of smartphones come with an option to turn off the shutter sound eg HTC Desire S or an option to turn off the shutter sound when phone is in silent mode eg Samsung Galaxy S2. I was disappointed upon purchase of 808 to find that no such option existed.I would like to request Nokia to consider releasing a software update that allows users to turn off the shutter sound either as a setting or when phone is in silent mode. This was what Sony Ericsson did for its K700i model many years ago.There is a need to consider the varied needs of users eg the need not to awaken the baby when getting a shot. I wonder if this post is sufficient to convey my request to Nokia or should I make my request known to Nokia in another way that you can suggest?

What happens is, the music goes silent on the FM, the voice instruction and the music is played on the phone speakers (or Bluetooth device, if connected), then at the completion of the instruction the music goes back through the FM transmitter again.

Nov 26, 2012There used to be an option whereby you could print photos via usb cable to a printer. This option has been removed - was there a reason for this, or is it a bug? It would be great if the developers could issue a small update that would address this problem. My phone (N8) has a fantastic camera and not being able to print photos from it is very disappointing. I know there is a workaround by transferrring photos to a computer first and then printing from there, but that is a hassle and shouldn't be necessary.
