Nokia Navigation :: N9 - Walking Navigation With Street Names?
Nov 5, 2011If instructions upon page 77 of N9 UG (Eng) not clear enough you do need to download appropriate voice file with street names as none installed by default.After you have chosen "Walking person" icon > Get directions > Navigate you need to tap upon grey tool bar at base of screen After selecting Voice Guidance > tap on select voice to reveal choices available.

Feb 17, 2010Could someone tell me exactly what is the current status of GPS on the N900? As I understand you can see where you are but there is no voice guidance. Is it possible to enter a destination address and have the phone guide you walking? Out of interest will the N900 ever be able to support video conferencing or is there a hardware problem? As in it doesn't say when to make a left or right.When I had the phone (brand new) it has nokia maps and then I updated it thru my phone and gave me Ovi Maps.

Feb 17, 2010I live in Brazil and recently bought a Nokia 5800 Xpress Music. I've installed the Ovi Maps 2.0 and download, through the nokia program the maps for Brazil and Brazilian Portuguese voice. During the "Drive"/"Walk" options in Ovi Maps, there is no voice. I don't know what to do. I've checked the updates on the phone software and map software through the computer and it says as the last version.

Jan 23, 2010The "No Voice Guidance under Bluetooth" problem seems to be well documented on this board as well as elsewhere on the web,In-Car bluetooth connections that work fine for phonecalls will not relay voice directions from Maps, and the phone itself stays mute. In effect, no voice directions are heard at all.The reason seems clear as well: The bluetooth standard allows for several different kinds of sound-streams for priority purposes etc. Most In-Car bluetooth devices however (including several NOKIA-ones), accept only actual phonecalls. Hence, all oher sound is muted while connected to the car.The rather obvious solution would be to have a setup-item in Ovi-Maps that forces all sound from the program to use the phones integrated speakers instead of an operative Bluetooth connection. (Use Bluetooth connection for Voice directions On/Off).
NO NOKIA STAFF have responded to aknowledge the problem or comment on it's possible solution or workaround. (And I have not found any third party app that adresses the issue.)One might speculate that the reason would be the design of the operating system, choosing to handle all sound in a similar way, which undoubtedly is a good thing ... in most cases, but in this case dissalows usage of the free navigation in the one situation it is of the highest value - IN THE CAR.NOW - as FREE NAVIGATION becomes a major selling point and the aplication can't work in a modern car while maintaining legal phone connectivity, NOKIA needs to accept this reality, and make Ovi-maps useable for these users as well even if that means defying a design principle.For reference, I use version 3.03 10wk01 b05 of Ovi-maps on my NOKIA N97 mini with a factory fitted Alfa Romeo "Blue&Me" bluetooth kit, developed by Microsoft Automotive.

Jan 15, 2010I have just purchased the new N900 phone. First impression is it looks very good and works well, BUT still lacking the key features of the N96 such as:
Ovi Maps does not provide voice navigation. Java is not supported so such brilliant apps such as the Opera browsers can not be installed onto it. PC suite is not yet available it the phone. So at first glance it is a great phone that could match the IPhone, but more work needs to be done to it to make it the all singing and dancing phone that Nokia needs it to be. If i am wrong on these points could someone point me in the right direction of addressing them

May 5, 2010I own a Nokia E71 and I am very excited about Nokia Maps. I am not a good computer user but somehow managed to land into this forum. I have downloaded Nokia Maps on my Nokia - E71 and its awesome but the voice navigation is not working. When I tried to download Voices using "Map Loader" it shows no entry. Nokia Navigation :: Voice Guidance Broken After Updating Ovi Maps (C7)?
Feb 17, 2011after updating Ovi Maps to final version 3.06 10wk50 with new maps 0.2.42.122 the German voice guidance with street names is broken. The voice announces i.e. to turn right in one kilometer and again to turn right now, but the announcement to turn right in about 300 meters including the street name or the highway number and direction is missing completely. Sometimes the command to turn now is also left out. I tried using the German female voice without street names as well as the UK English voice with street names - both work well without any problems.I already reinstalled Ovi Maps via Ovi Store, deleted the qf file and the cities folder on the mass memory and re-downloaded the map and voice files, I resetted the phone via *#7370# and reinstalled the actual firmware (013.016) via Ovi Suite without success.

May 24, 2010I downloaded and installed maps of Australia and the surfer dude voice using map loader. However my maps application did not detect any drive navigation voice. When I browsed the voices folder however it was there.i had to download another voice thru the maps application (sadly no surfer dud) in order to get voice navigation. Is there any reason for this? I am using a 5800 with v31 and im using maps v3.04. Although with both v3.03 and 3.04 the same problem was there.

Jul 11, 2010I have 2 different cases that I would like to se some kind of solution for:
- In my city, there are several "bugs" in the maps. Is there a way to get this corrected ? Several roads seems ok for drivetrough, but then you find them to be "walking only". Ovi maps told me to drive into such road, - but luckily I knew the area, and did know it was a dead end. Places like this I would like to share with other users, so the map itself would be more up to date and as correct as possible. But ; such issues I have found no way to feed the maps with. ( yea, I might share the cinema, and hospital, cafe's and som but the road and blocked roads, - nope. even nopt telling wich speedlimits the different roads has).
Is there a way to get the ovi maps to remember a input? (It asks over and over "connect to location server" y/n - while driving in areas with a lot of tunnels, and steep mountains (it looses the GPS signals). This is not only annoying, but it disturb while driving. If I consider to say yes, - ( or no for that matter) - it continues to ask everytime it looses the GPS signals. I have now turned it off, and will see if the nagscreen shows up all the time. If it could remember the FIRST answer - as long as it is running, - it would be okay. As it is now, - its really disturbing - here in Western Norway. (where the FJORDS are, and a lot of tunnels).
Nokia :: N85 - Updated Maps Application / Added Voice Navigation Closes Maps
Feb 4, 2010I have a N85 Navi which I bought less than a year ago. I updated this week the maps and the application (latest version)and added one voice for the navigation. After this update when I open the Maps and select Settings and Navigation (to change i.e. voice), Maps closes automatically without any error messages. I can open all the other settings sub-menus. Any ideas why this is happening? Do I have the to re-install the application, maps and voices?

Jul 23, 2015When I get into the car, I sometimes plug the S5 into my car stereo's aux input via a 3.5mm audio cable. I can play anything just fine(streaming music or MP3/FLAC/WAV files stored on the phone).When I'm listening to the car stereo itself(CD, FM/AM, etc), I usually leave the phone plugged in. If I want to use Google Maps voice navigation, I'll have to physically disconnect the 3.5m audio cable if I want to hear the voice navigation on my phone. (again, this is when I'm only playing a CD on the car stereo)Is there a way to get around this so that I don't have to plug/unplug in the aux input cable all the time?
