now I know why they take out the slider on N97 mini. It's a megnetic switch under the slider.that means, you can not use megnetic leather case as it will activate the camera even when it's locked.I must have my leather megnetic case.

My old holster is finally giving in after 5 years and I can't find a replacement.The new holsters advertised for the Torch - DO NOT WORK!!!! The magnet is in the wrong place. Sure, it sleeps the phone on the way in but when the phone is fully inserted into the holster, the phones lights back up. It passes the magnet on the way down and then thinks it has been pulled out and lights back up.

I'm not sure if anyone else has this problem, but when I attempt to use the compass in Nokia maps with my phone in it's case, it appears that the compass doesn't go green after attempting to calibrate it many times, but rather stays red. When I take it out of the case it is able to work after hardly any attempts at calibrating, I think it may be due to the case which has a magnet in it, I've also heard that it can cause the phone to think the back camera is open, if that makes sense, although I haven't encountered this problem yet. I was wondering if there may be long-term damage.

DON'T USE MAGNETIC PHONE CASES if you want your compass to stay working.I have searched for and read thru lots of posts about people with compass problems in their Razr but no one mentions if they have or did have a phone case with a magnetic close flap.My compass had been working great and I use Night Sky and navigation apps all the time.I put on a leather flip case for more protection and suddenly my compass is all screwy and locked up!Even taking the case back off didn't help.I got the phone tester app and seen that all 3 axis were frozen so I took the magnet from the offending phone case and floated it up to and away from the phone from all directions. This kinda unfroze the compass but it's still erratic even after calibration.

The only thing is, is that the back cover is all sratched up and has like 30 dimples on it. So I want to replace it for a new cover but I don't know where I can get it, I tried to search e-bay but all I found is phone cases that go on top of the cover that I want.
Can anyone post up links to where I can get one? It would nice if I could also get a new chrome bezel trim piece too because that's damaged too.
When I searched around for iPhone cases, I couldn't find any that covered the buttons and the back of the phone. I also could not find any screen protectors. The only case was the Zagg stick-on case, and I don't really want that little shock protection. Does anyone know if there will be more cases by the 24th, when my iPhone is due?

View 1 Replies View Relatedrecently ive come into a few issues with my N97 and my local nokia care center for that matter.as far as i am aware, nokia has acknowledged that the earlier model N97 had a design fault with the camera assembly where the lens slider is mounted too close to the glass, and as a result, was easily scratched.from my research a while ago, nokia acknowledged this and that it would be covered under warranty, and that they would replace the camera assembly with a newer model that doesnt have this issue.
however, my local nokia care centre refuse to acknowledge the issue and has caused my a lot of problems. the first time i brought my phone in, they correctly replaced the camera assembly with the new one. however, they somehow managed to stop the phone from recognising any sim card. so i brought it back in again, and this time they replaced the phone with a blank N97, however, this n97 had firmware issues and had the original camera slider with the design fault, and they continued to act rude and said that i didnt know what i was talking about and continued to insult me stating that it is not an acknowledged issue with the phone.
now, can someone confirm for me, or better yet, supply me with a link about the official nokia statement on this matter?
Is there any way to disable that dragging the small camera lens cover turns on/off the camera? if that option doesn't exist (I guess it because I searched for it long wise) is a big fail in N97.
View 8 Replies View Relatedi had my n900 for a while now.camera lens cover(top part) has peeled off from its glue and the wire makes the cover open and close came loose by itself. i have the warranty but i do not want to send my phone just for the cover for 2 weeks. is there any place on web that i can order the lens cover only and replace it my self. its very east to remove since its plastic base.i only have the blue base on the phone now and it is loose so its keep opening the camera mode. very annoying. please help.

It's not interfering with picture-taking (and I still have the removable clear plastic cover over the top (the one that comes with new camera).Is it worth repairing ?If so, how would I go about this ?
It was a problem since many days but i ignored it. But now whenever i open the lens cover of the camera, it doesn't open the camera instead i've to press the lens cover hard down to activate my camera. Also there is a gap down highlighted with circle and the black lens cover is slightly coming in front of camera again highlighted by an arrow.

How can I know that the one i am going to buy is one of the "later models"? I do not complain about that specific camera lens problem, but it's always nice to buy the most recent hardware. I just want a way to know what hardware version is the phone I am going to buy. Is it written on the box? What's the format? Screenshots?
Is it me or are the volume controls a little tricky to operate? You only get a touch screen variation once you can press one of thge buttons.
Is there any way to put a touch column slider on the notifications area like the brightness slider?
I was given a case for my n900 as a gift. I found that every time I put the n900 into the case, it would wake up. I would put it to sleep with the spring loaded switch on the side, but no matter how gingerly I put it into the case it would keep waking up. It then occurred to me to put it into the case backwards, where upon it did not wake up.
The case basically has a felt type liner and a flap which is held closed with magnets in the flap and the front of the case. I have confirmed that both pieces are magnetized. I further discovered that if I run the front face of the n900 against either the flap or the front face of the case, the n900 will wake up.
Simply touching the face of the n900 to a magnet is not sufficient, it must be rubbed or passed in close proximity to the magnet, which I presume is then inducing a current some place that causes the n900 to wake up.I don't know if it is any more of a problem than to tell the case manufacturers not to use magnets, or at least not use them where they can be in close proximity to the face of the n900. So I am passing this along as a heads up when looking into getting a case, and where hopefully someone with more technical knowledge of the inner workings of the n900 might be able to elaborate on this.

1) The 5230 has a magnetic compass built in it? Where it is documented?
2) It is used in navigation using Ovi Maps? How and when?
3) How I can calibrate it, making the 360 turn, as suggested elsewhere? On what screen/menu is the function selected?
The camera in Blackberry Torch appears to have slipped slightly & does work properly.

(My local bar tender knows to put two coasters down, one for a drink and another for my iPhone), but I recently noticed that on the back camera that the glass is really scratched up that covers the lens. I currently have purchased a hard case for the phone itself (seidio innocase) as well as a screen protector.Now the next thing that I am looking for is a good Vertical case/pouch.The thing is that it must be vertical and it must be open at the top (I don't want a cover at all.I want to be able to slide the phone in and out easily). I also must have a belt clip on it.I have found a few online, but for what reviews that I have read stated that they are hard to get the phone in and out of when the phone is naked (no case on it). Since I am planning to have the phone in a hard case at all times that particular case will not work for me.
I have seen the pDair case and it looks good, but $28 USD plus shipping (to Canada) I want to make sure that the phone (in a hard case) will fit in it. I havn’t found any reviews on it as of yet either.I know that the iphone & Nexus One are about the same size as the Milestone and wonder if anyone has tried any of those cases with success? As I am sure (especially for the iphone) that there is a wider selection of cases available.
On the actual lense on the back of my phone, it looks like a shutter peice has shifted down over top of the lens. It doesn' really affect the camera but it just bugs me that it's there and i've compared with other 4s' and it's not there. Any insight or ideas as to why this shutter-looking thing is over my camera lens?
