Nokia :: E72 Encryption & OVI Maps
May 7, 2010I have two issues about the E72:
1. My E72 came with a 4GB microSD card with OVI Maps installed on it. Unfortunately there are only 1023 MB free out of 4GB, so I planned to buy a bigger card. I would like toi know if I can simply copy all the data from the opriginal 4GB card to the new one? Will the applications still work?
2. If I enable phone memory encryption in my phone, some applications stop working, i.e. OVI Maps does not work anymore, OVI Store stops working. I have to disable the phone memory encryption in order applications restart working. Is there a way to havbe phone memory enabled and still have the applications working fine?

Jan 24, 2010Setting up card encryption goes through the motions but appears to instantly encrypt the card! Given memory encryption takes a few minutes, it looks like nothing actually happens. Indeed, trying to decrypt the card doesn't do anything! Haven't yet tried to read the card in another device, but I suspect it isn't. Other reportson the net concur with this. Given that encryption was one of the main reasons for looking at this phone, this is a bit of an issue.

Mar 29, 2010I just realized something interesting with my E72 - people can access my data even without knowing the password.Details are as follows:
-E72 firmware 022.007. Both memory and MicroSD card are encrypted. Phone set to auto-lock at every 20 minutes.I have an alternate home screen application installed (Voyager Home Screen) and just noticed that possible to invoke Voyager even after the phone has been "locked" (encrypted). Using Voyager I can load up any file management tool, for instance X-Plorer and access the card and any files.All one has to to is unlock the keyboard, there is no need to know the lock code or input it.Perhaps this has something to do with the way Voyager Home Screen works but it made me realize that perhaps the data isn't secure at all.even with encryption.

Several applications, including Ovi Store and Maps, will not start with phone encryption enabled. Disabling encryption means I can use the mentioned applications, but as soon as I sync the mail, the encryption is back on.

Feb 19, 2010After over 2 monhts heavy usavge, I'm quite happy with my E72 so far, except for some memory leak issues.I did get a bit annoyed by the fact that the auto-lock feature cannot be set for more than 20 minutes. One of the resons I got the E72 was the strong RAM+Card encryption but I expected it to be a bit more flexible.It is true that having a forced lock timeout helps protect your device (you'd forget to lock it sometimes) but there are certain occasions where I find this extremely annoying. For instance:
-When I am at home I find no need to have it locked all the time.
-When I am at work and the phone is always next to me, I find annoying that it auto-locks every 20 minutes when I'm using it as an audio player - makes you have to unlock when you want to interact
-In certain applications, it is annoying that it autolocks and you can't interact. One example is Sygic Mobile GPS software that crashes when it locks. With other software it would be annoying too as you'd be locked and unable to interact with the phone in any trip taking longer than 20 minutes.So I have two suggestions
-Make the maximum lock delay a bit longer - for instance 60 minutes.

Give us an option similar to what you get in timed Profiles, for instance, "Stay unlocked until hh:mm" - This would be handy when you're home and well... no one is going to steal your phone/access it/lose it.

Mar 28, 2010I have an E71 a year ago. I bought this phone because of their SIP support. But I just want to sell it and buy an E72 phone. II read too many complaints about this phone because it doesn't bring with native SIP support (some models, I want to buy mine via Amazon). I read in some posts (mainly this post) that the Net Settings brings up a bunch of VoIP servers. I have my own Asterisk server, my E71 works flawlessly with it and I don't need to use another provider such as Fring, Nimbuzz or Gizmo.
Do I need another SIP provider in E72? Or E72 can't just conect to a SIP server just like E71?

Jun 10, 2010I've been trying to upgrade the Ovi maps on my E75, because navigation has kept me saying that I need to renew the license. I went to Nokia web site and found out that I need to upgrade Ovi maps in order to get the free navigation. I have a 202.12.01 firmware and I installed it once again when I had unsuccessfully tried to upgrade Ovi maps. I have Ovi maps v3.01 09wk44b01 (MW OpenGL LM MN) and Map version 0.1.24.114 (OpenBitLM 6.22.5). I've deleted all old maps and started to download new ones successfully over Nokia Ovi Suite. I've downloaded Nokia Ovi Suite and followed the instructions for downloading and installing the newest version of Ovi maps application (I suppose it must be newer than the one I have on now, because navigation still wants me to buy license, I guess it must be 3.03 or higher). I've tried it several times from the scratch, just to make sure I did it right. Of course I've also chosen the right E75 phone from the drop down menu and I downloaded the file nokia_maps_3.01_09wk44_b01_s60_3.2_lm_rom.sis. I double-clicked it and everything seems to be right, but when action on the phone should be required the installation guide says "Nokia E75 does not support sis files". From the sis file name I can only now see that I have this version already installed.Does this mean I can not use navigation for free on E75?

Feb 19, 2010What are the requirements to get this feature working? Just tested MfE 3.00.050 witha Nokia E71 phone running latest firmware v400 against MS Exchange 2003 SP2, and jus cannot see HTML formatted mail. Just the unformatted text is shown on the MfE client.
Do I need to do some configuration in OWA or in Exchange mailbox server? Or does this feature work only with MS Exchange 2007 OWA? If HTML message format really is supported in Nokia E71 and MfE 3.0.0050, I guess it should work with the latest phone firmware.

Jun 23, 2011My Nokia N8 does not seem to be able to do DTMF. This means no listening to voicemail, no using of call centers which asks to enter numeric options, no joining telephone conferecences with a pin and no remote activation of DTMF based server settings.
it can be done and all I need to do during a call is to select "Options -> Send DTMF -> Enter Manually -> * -> Y", because that is stupid. Entering 5 commands to select a single digit is rediculous. It is like saying that I can sail from Johannesburg to Cape Town because all I need is to dig a canal and then build a ship from matches. This much effort is as good as not having it and is entirely impractical during a call with various options i.e. voicemail or call center options.

As a frequent traveller to Japan, I would like the ability to view Japanese characters/fonts when browsing online. Or when reading emails written in Japanese. I have downloaded successfully the Japanese translator for the Dictionary. Which displays Japanses characters with no problem. But when I browse online the Japanese characters are unreadable.
I have tried changing the Default encoding setting: Options/Settings/Page/Default encoding. Then reloading the web pages. But same result. I don't necessarily need the ability to write in Japanese. Though it would be nice. But I would like the ability to view Japanese websites, and email's in their correct front. Are there language packs available for download? Or should I be directing my enquiry to my local Nokia Care agent?

Aug 6, 2010Nokia, is there ever gonna be flash 10 support for the n900. When I bought this phone I was under the impression that it would be (as you advertised) the ultimate internet browsing experience. How is this possible when just about every other smart phone device has flash 10 support . Without flash 10 the n900's just another device with no other exceptional features.I bought the n900 to browse the net on the go, however due to lack of flash 10 and absolutely no support from you guys (nokia), I have now moved on to android and I have no intent on looking back to any if your future devices, as I'm quite sure many other n900 users have. How can you (nokia) release a "flag ship device" and drop support for it immediately afterwards. Hell I'd hate to see what you do to non "flagship devices." And my god, it's been 7......7 MONTHS and there's still NO OVI STORE SUPPORT FOR THE N900.To any future n900 buyers viewing this thread, do not buy this device! Mar 16, 2010So I was prompted to install the new version of Ovi suite today, and I couldn't help but think "I wonder if this new version will support Nokia's top-end phone, the N900?" How foolish I was to think such a thing. Seriously, what's going on? How on earth can you release a phone as one of your top-end phones and not even be bothered to get the support ready for it before you release it?
Lots of my friends want to buy iPhones and I always say "Nah, the N900 is so much better" because I really believe that hardware-wise, it is far superior. But the software for it, and the non-existant support from Nokia really must (or SHOULD) be an embarrasment for the company. When are Nokia's loyal customers going to be treated as such?
Nokia :: OVI Suite And Care Support
Feb 17, 2010Today I called Nokia Support, because I could not download maps with map loader.The guy asked if the ovi suite is installed. I told him, that the Ovi suite keeps on crashing on start-up on my machine, and that all other software is running fine, e.g. the PC suite which I am using instead.
For a price of 14 Cent/Minutes this "Nokia-Care"-guy had the nuts telling me that probably my computer needs to be fixed. After telling him that my computer works fine with all other software, he finally told me that I need to call Microsoft, as it would be their fault that Ovi Suite is not running on my machine.
This is a poor joke called "Nokia-Care". Dear Nokia-people, that is no-support and no-care-at-all. Providing something that crashes for free, and charging money for providing rudeness on the phone.
