About two months ago, there was a lot of buzz on the net about "lumia 800 gets wifi tethering in the next update"Well... Am I missing something important on my phone or is the wifi tethering still not there? I could use it, especially since Joikuspot is not available for this phone.
View 7 RepliesNow, I turn on internet sharing with my Lumia 900 and it simply does not appear in my WiFi networks list on my iPad, MacBook Pro and iMac (OSX 10.7.4) or my Lenovo G575 (Win7 x64).I try to manually connect in both OSX and Windows but it either causes the trouble shooting wizard to appear (Windows) or throws an error saying either the network does not exist or the connection has timed out (OSX/iPad).
When I first got the phone the beginning of June, I was able to tether to my computer at work whilst the internet was down (Fujitsu Lifebook, Win7 Pro x64) - I did this twice without a problem and was able to get on the net (I'll actually check this still works tomorrow; if it doesn't then it may be a hardware issue).
Wish I had read in here first - my Lumia 800 arrived yesterday, and after trying for ages to get my netbook tethered to the lumia to use the internet I looked in here - was hoping for a solution, but not the only solution is to return the handset and go back to my old N8-00.
Is tethering likely to be added in the near future ?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI've been looking for a very particular tethering solution and so far been unable to find anything: I would like to use my phone's wifi connection on my laptop via the USB cable (I have a 5530 XpressMusic).
Using Ovi Suite, I can use the phone as a modem (i.e. use its 3G connection), but that's not what I am looking for. My laptop's WiFi module is broken, but my phone's wifi is working just fine. So my idea was to tether with the phone to share the connection with the laptop.
Just updated my lumia 800 from 8107 to 8773 and there is still no sign of internet sharing, also the promised camera extras app won't install, just says its not compatible with my device although the play to app works fine.So is there any word when an update will be out to enable tethering also which update do I need to get those camera extras, or are they not compatible with the 800?

I can switch it on, other clients can see and connect to the WiFi hotspot.I tried to tether my Windows 7 laptop to the phone, but no luck - I cannot actually use the tethered connection to browse the Internet.I don't have any restrictions on my Internet usage plan.I can confirm this because with the same data plan (and SIM), my E6 (with Joiku hotspot) can share its Internet connection without any hassles.

I am travelling and am in a hotel that has expensive wireless Internet that works only on one registered device. So, if I register my computer, I cannot also use my iPhone or iPad, even if the MBP is off. Does the iPhone allow tethering while on Wi-Fi, not on 3G? In other words, if I register my iPhone for Wi-Fi Internet access with the hotel, would I be able to use it as a 'Personal Hotspot' to get Internet access on the MBP and iPad? Secoond question. If the iPhone is locked to my provider in Canada (Rogers), does this means taht the 3G data is also locked, or is it only the voice/SMS features that are locked?

I know this sounds strange but i travel alot and recently hotels sell Internet PER device, so when i get internet on my laptop i cant get it on iPhone or i have to pay for 2nd device, I was thinking is it POSSIBLE to get the internet on my iPhone and tether it with my laptop? this way when i am in my room i can use my laptop and when i am in lobby or at meetings my phone got the internet.

Android OS.I first tried USB tethering but my laptop had no internet access, so I instead tried setting up a portable wifi hotspot to see if that would work. My laptop recognised the network I had created and I joined it succesfully, but I had no internet access. (Note: When I used USB tethering another network was recognised by the laptop)
I checked my phone and the 3g icon which shows that mobile internet is enabled (the two little verticle arrows with 3g above them) were not visible, but when I disabled the wi-fi hotspot, the icon appeared again. I'm not sure whether this is normal but could it be that 3g is being disabled with the activation of hotspotting, or is it just hidden automatically when wi-fi hotspotting is disabled? I find sometimes that the 3g icon disapears for no reason in areas I previously have had good signal, and then when I try and connect it takes a few seconds and then the icon appears again and I can connect.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a Motorola RAZR international GSM version (XT910). It is an unlocked phone without any contract or carrier branding.
I seem to have issues whenever i try using my phone as a WiFi Hotspot. When the Hotspot is turned on the data connection drops. I have tried this while using the device as a hotspot for my iPad and/or my laptop. I'm able to browse normally when i'm directly browsing on the phone. But the moment i begin to use the phone as a WiFi Hotspot i see the data connection immediately getting terminated. Even the data toggle widget i have on my home screen gets toggled off automatically. It comes back up once the device i tether from stops trying to access the hotspot.
This is not a carrier limitation. I tried using the same SIM Card on 2 other unlocked phones (Xperia X10i and Galaxy S2) and they both tether just fine. I also contacted my carrier and had the network and APN settings reset while using the RAZR. That didn't seem to solve the issue either. I have tried every solution that i know of. I have even reset the phone to factory settings a couple of times. But nothing seems to work. There are no Smart Actions setup that conflict with the data connection. I'm totally clueless about what is causing this issue.
It is really frustrating to know that i am able to tether even on a two year old Sony Ericsson Xperia X10i that's running Android 2.3.3 but not on the brand new RAZR for which i had to pay around $700.

I have a SM-G900F (no carrier) European S5, bought like a couple months ago, not rooted or installed any custom rom, full stock on 5.0.
When I enable Mobile Hotspot or share the connection through USB, the other devices connect just fine, but no data is received at all.
* Tested with both a laptop and another phone
* To rule out carrier restrictions, I put the SIM in a Nexus4 and enabled Wifi tethering, then connected to it with the S5, works np, just not the other way around.
I have been watching the price of the lapdock come down to reality and I would like to invest in one.However, I will not buy any of the docks if they require ATT tethering to function.I am hoping that I can use the lapdock via WiFi and I do not want to ante in for ATT tether.

I am planning on buying it outright since want to unlock as will use it for travel a lot and saw that ATT is unlocking which is great. But with my focus, though it is unlocked and even with other sim cards in it, I cannot tether since it still tells me to contact ATT. Every once in a while, sims on some carriers in some countries (I have like 40-50 of them) will allow internet sharing...but pretty rare. 3G/4G is way better than the wifi you can find.
So my question is will I be able to unlock 1020 tethering if I buy the phone from ATT. I am travelling to the UK next month and wanted to buy the 64gb version of telefonica carrier since I imagine this would be sim unlocked and tether unlocked--is that right? I also get that I will be paying a serious premium for this, but hope that I might be able to get VAT back when leaving which will take away...
I read about apps that allow tethering of other devices without the additional tethering plans... foxfi was one that was suggested... however, I don't think it is working on the S6. Any app that works?

It's been connected to 2 wifi points at work and home and has only been connected to 3g twice, for 30 minutes each time. I haven't even been heavily accessing apps.
In that time my data allowance has fallen from 83mb to 56. I can't understand why this would be so high. 27mb used in a day when I've been connected to Wifi points for most of the day... When I have the same sim card (network: three) in my iPhone 4, the equivalent usage is on average less than <3mb when I haven't been actively using the phone
I personally don't think that I should have to turn off data connection because Nokia doesn't know how to prioritise wifi over my data connection. I have a limited allowance, and having to switch data connection on/off all the time is annoying, for something other phones get right.
If I'm connected to a Wifi point, my 3g data connection should NEVER be used...

View 2 Replies View RelatedGot mrs S a 610 for her birthday a month ago As Mrs S isn't the most technologicaly adept of people she was worried at first, but has found the simple interface much to her liking However I have come across an problem which now I know what it is is a minor thing but it took some tracking down A few weeks ago I was browsing the web on my PC when suddenly the internet connection dropped out, the PC could see my home wireless network but wouldn't connect to it. I then noticed my N8 was suffering the same issue I looked at the router and it thought it was working, also the devices conencted via ethernet cable still had internet connectivity Tried rebooting the routher, the pc and my N8 to no avail, the router thought it was broardcasting a signal and the devices could see it but wouldn't connect. deleting the access points and trying to reestablish them didn't help?
It was getting late so giving it up for a bad job I decided to go to bed, on the way up I noticed Mrs S's 610 on charge on the landing, thought I'd have a look with that, tried the internet, nothing, rebooted and the net was working. In the morning the other devices would also connect fine A few days later I experianced a similar event, again reboots wouldn't work, but then my eyes fell on Mrs S's 610 again on charge, I turned the wifi off on this and instantly PC and N8 could connect again, turned the 610 wi fi back on and not a problem until last night when the same thing happened, again cycled the wifi on the 610 to clear the issue
The TLDR occasionaly when the 610 is on charge it's wifi suddenly jam every other wireless device from connecting to the same network, cycling the wi-fi on the 610 clears the problem?
I'm sharing my internet connection from my Macbook pro, and have been connecting with my old Lumia 800 without problems. Today I took the plunge and bought a 920. On my way home, I connected via wifi to McDonalds without any problems. When I arrived home I tried to connect to my Macbook using the correct password, and the 920 gave me a "wrong password" message.I then changed the password on the Macbook to a 40 bit WEP code - still no joy. I've tried rebooting both the Mac and the 920, switching channels on the Mac wifi channel and am now getting peeved, as my old 800 still connects without fail.Occasionally I get the "wrong password" message, other times I get "Unable to join".
