Lumia 1020 :: Unlocking Internet Tethering On Unlocked Phone
Aug 10, 2013
I want to buy 1020 (used my quantum until I lost it last year and then replaced with a focus). I am planning on buying it outright since want to unlock as will use it for travel a lot and saw that ATT is unlocking which is great. But with my focus, though it is unlocked and even with other sim cards in it, I cannot tether since it still tells me to contact ATT. Every once in a while, sims on some carriers in some countries (I have like 40-50 of them) will allow internet sharing...but pretty rare. 3G/4G is way better than the wifi you can find.
So my question is will I be able to unlock 1020 tethering if I buy the phone from ATT. I am travelling to the UK next month and wanted to buy the 64gb version of telefonica carrier since I imagine this would be sim unlocked and tether unlocked--is that right? I also get that I will be paying a serious premium for this, but hope that I might be able to get VAT back when leaving which will take away...
My sister is interested in the 1020, and she has a 4S. She wants it unlocked because she is going to France for 6 months, and doesn't want to pay the international plan. I know they have the 6 month waiting before unlocking, which is fine, but does that policy still work for people who bought the phone on contract. And if she buys it from the Microsoft Store, does that policy still work?
I bought 2 Nokia Lumia 1020's (full price) at the Microsoft Store about a week ago and I have been struggling with At&t to get it unlocked (I want to use it in Tmobile's network and for study abroad). I'm a former At&t wireless customer and current Internet customer but that doesn't make it any easier to unlock the device. I've spoken with many representatives and they all have directed me to the att.com/deviceunlock website. However, the IMEI section always rejects our phone and says it can't be unlocked. I had a representative supposedly fill it out but never received an email response, and now I have been talking to the in store rep's to attempt to get it unlocked.
I have a Rogers-branded Lumia 1020 (RM-877_nam_canada_234) pentaband, unlocked and running on Wind Mobile (an AWS 3G carrier). Everything works great. I just got it, SIM-unlocked it, and started updating... the most recent update was to OS version 8.0.10521.155.
Whenever I try to turn on Internet Sharing, it tries for a few seconds, and then gives error "Connection not shared. There's no cellular data connection to share right now. Check your cellular settings and signal, and try again."
Yes, I've installed Nokia Access Point and activated the APN.
My wife has a Nokia 1020 that was previously my daughters on the Vodaphone network. It has been unlocked and is now working fine on Virgin Mobile network.
There are apps all over the place and I would like to set up a new Windows live account for my wife while at the same time returning the phone to its original factory state. There is nothing on the phone that I need other than contacts which I stored earlier onto the SIM.
If I do a hard reset will the phone return to its previous Vodaphone set up?If so will I have to get the phone unlocked again to be able to use the Virgin Mobile network?
I'm currently looking at trying out the Windows 10 Mobile preview, and much of what I've read says that system resets are needed to make it useable. If I perform one, does my phone remain carrier unlocked?
I have a Lumia 1020, currently unlocked, but it is an AT&T model. Just want to be safe before I do it.
I am going to be traveling and will be without data / internet access or wifi for extended periods. I want to take my 1020 with me to take tons of pics but it is certain that I will run out of space on it eventually. I want to be able to move photos off of the phone quickly and easily without Data / Internet or a PC.
I saw there's a post describing how to enable internet sharing for 1020 but one of the requirement is a foreign SIM card which I don't have.
My 1020 is a Hong Kong version got from eBay and it didn't come with a SIM. I called T-Mobile but they said since it's not from their store, it may not work, they tried to do something on their end but couldn't make it work.
I've just updated my Lumia 800 to Tango. I now see the Internet sharing option. I can switch it on, other clients can see and connect to the WiFi hotspot.I tried to tether my Windows 7 laptop to the phone, but no luck - I cannot actually use the tethered connection to browse the Internet.I don't have any restrictions on my Internet usage plan.I can confirm this because with the same data plan (and SIM), my E6 (with Joiku hotspot) can share its Internet connection without any hassles.
I have a Lumia 1020 which I bought from O2 and subsequently unlocked it so I could use it with my Three sim. Everything had been working fine for 3-4 months, but after I updated to GDR3 (through the developer program) I now cannot access internet at all other than wi-fi.
On the top of the screen it says it's receiving an H+ signal and sometimes 3G - but whenever I try to browse the web or do anything data related, it won't work. I acquired the unlock code through eBay, but I don't think that's really relevant but thought I should add it.
The problem only started surfacing after I updated early to GDR3 (still no official update here in the U.K). Do you think this is a carrier related problem or software? I did put my old Pay-And-Go O2 sim in, and cellular data worked just fine. It's like it's unlocked (I can make calls with the Three sim) but it is not allowing me to use any data.
my Nokia 1020 internet usage. I sometimes us a web based internet program, but all of a sudden the program gives me an error message saying "Server error" when trying to use this program on the internet. I have been using this web based internet program for a year nor but now it only shows me a half empty page and without the possibility of interacting with it at all and the instruments there. But as soon as I use my phone through a wifi connection this web based program works fine?
Sometimes my touchscreen freezes up when im unlocking the phone, it may happen when sliding up the lock screen or when entering the password i set for it to unlock.I have to turn my screen off and back on again to get it to work properly again. It's not a huge problem, but it gets irritating when receiving a call and not being able to answer it without turning your screen off and on.
This started happening recently, already tried a factory reset which didnt work obviously.Deleted all applications i had installed, and made sure all applications were closed properly by using the back button.
The internet connection on my 1020 is extremely slow when WIFI is connected (every other device I own is fine and can easily clear 30 meg download, 5 meg up.) When I use search, the phone screen times out and shuts off before returning any results (times out after 1 minute). I have reset the phone this morning to start over but the problem remains. The speed is perfect using Data and WIFI off, but once WIFI is enabled, the internet comes to a near halt.
I updated my phone to the 8.1 and now my photos on the internet are only showing half the size. I do not have the option to auto fit the photos to the screen and the fonts are to the smallest they can go.
I'm using an unlocked ATT 1020 on Tmobile and when I enabled internet sharing, it would tell me to call 611 and request the feature from ATT. But if I disabled LTE, tethering would work and then I could re-enable it. Now, with cyan, the phone recognizes that it's going through tmobile, but states that I don't have the mobile hotspot service (I do have it) and takes me to a message to upgrade my plan. When I click upgrade, it takes me to a page to call Tmobile. Upon calling them, after dealing with someone who swore my plan didn't include tethering (it certainly does), I got transferred to someone else.
After some steps and some research on their side, I was told that the only thing that made sense was that when I changed my plan to a higher data plan (recently, where I was assured nothing would change except the amount of data), the system saw that my phone was not a Tmobile one and kicked tethering off. She stated that there was no way to manually re-add it because it just kicks it off again. For the record, all of the other phones on my plan still work with tethering (one other phone is a non-tmobile iphone). Also, a friend of mine has a 1520.3 on the same plan and cyan actually made internet sharing work when it wasn't working before. So confused and frustrated.
I don't know if this was actually something cyan changed or if it really was the plan change, because I believe the last time I tried internet sharing was before both changes. I want to try my sim card in a pre-cyan, non-tmobile WP and see what happens.
I have a bb data plan for my blackberry bold unlocked phone. I have tried everything with the technical support team but still can't connet to the fido internet service; they told me the problem is on RIM side.
Brought my first BB yesterday,a Storm 2 as I hated my iphone - however my BB days could be numbered as first impressions are not so good !Got it unlocked through Vodaphone onto the Orange network as my Iphone contract still has 20 months to go !I cannot connect to the internet unless I am at home and connect through my wifi ?I get "This is a wifi service. Please ensure your device has an active wifi connection and try again "Is this one of many problems that I will get as i am on orange and not Voda ?Also can the memory be increased for music etc ?
Can I use internet tethering to link my iPad 3WIFI to the internet through my iPhone 3GS? My provider O2 assures me I can with the tariff I have for my iPhone. If so, how do I do it?
I just signed up with T-mobile and my internet is not working at all. It's been three days that I signed up and the internet is not working. What can I do since my phone originally was an unlocked phone?
i need help setting up the internet and mms settings on my unlocked samsung katalyst. it is a tmobile phone but i unlocked it and my internet and mms wont work.
I have a Samsung flight. I unlocked. I want to use it on the Tmobile network. But I can't seem to get the internet working on it. It there maybe a flash I could do to remove the Att trademarks from it and also getting working on my Tmobile network.
I recently bought a Nokia 1020 and i suspect that there are something wrong with the camera. The quality of the photos that i take are, in my opinion, nowhere near the ones you can se in reviews and those released by Nokia.
To me it looks like it's only the middle part of every photo that is correctly focused. The edges are very blurry. I have no case on the phone, no dirt on the lens and i have tried to reset the camera and reboot, no difference.
I will attach some photos on which I think you can see it clearly. The images are very sharp in the middle but when you move towards the edges it quickly becomes blurry. Both pictures are taken in daylight with Nokia Pro Cam, all settings on auto.
The pictures are the high resolution version: FileSnack | Easy file sharing FileSnack | Easy file sharing.
I just recently purchased an unlocked Blackberry 8900 phone which I placed my current contracts sim card in. My sim's contract includes mobile internet, just wondering how I can use this on my blackberry?
I can set up the Blackberry to use my wifi connection no problem, just can't figure how to set it up to use the mobile internet included in my price plan?
Also when I try to install the Blackberry Appworld, it says my device is not supported - even when I try viewing on the Blackberry's browser and connecting to my laptop! Why is this?
New to the Windows mobile phone... I use my Windows phone for business and do a lot of conference calls. With my iPhone I used to be able to put the phone number with three commas and then the passcode to the conference call in the meeting request (format = 555-555-5555,,,12121212#). By using this format my customers could just click the link in their iPhone and it would auto-dial the conference number along with the passcode so that they did not have to remember the passcode while driving.
Example: 555-555-5555,,,12121212#. (autohyperlink for iOS) VS 555-555-5555 Passcode 12121212 then press # (caller can hyperlink the phone number but has to remember the passcode and dial it while driving...)
By using this format you could just click the number and it would dial the number pause then auto add the passcode and # to enter the conference call. I think Blackberry used to use a similar format to achieve the same thing.
Yesterday, I went running with my Lumia 1020 listening to music and using the Runtastic app. The music stopped - I looked at the phone - it was turned off. I tried powering on, but to no avail. I should also mention that upon leaving, the battery was fully charged and this happened after some 20 minutes. When I came home, I immediately put the phone on the wall charger and expected it to power on after a while. I checked it after 3 hours and nothing, the phone was still stone-dead and what was even more worrying, completely cold - no heat-up from charging.
I tried connecting it to my PC - the computer didn't even recognize ANY device was connected to it. Just to be sure, I tried Nokia Software Recovery Tool, but sure enough, it was not able to detect the phone. The phone seems to be dead meat now, but when I put it on my desk wireless charging stand, the stand's indicator lights up, although the phone does nothing and stays that way.
Yesterday I updated my Lumia 1020 to Lumia Cyan. I've been using WP 8.1.1 with developer preview. Today I left my phone at home, I didn't use it and when I tried to pick it up I actually got scared, it was so extremely hot that I thought it will explode. After few seconds I got warning that battery is low but I know that it was around 70% when iI left it(I've left it only for 1 hour). I turned it off so it could cold before I charge it.
