Is there a way to prevent phone from connecting to GPRS automatically? I'm using Nokia E51. I surf the internet via 3G. But occasionally, when the 3G network is not available (like in tunnels), the phone automatically connects to GPRS.Is there a way to prevent that from happening?

1. The phone always keeps connecting to my GPRS network (Tele2). When I go to the connections I can see that connection being active and transferring some data (not much, it's almost always at 7 kb). When I put my phone on the table I can hear that strange radio sound on the speakers (=some radio activity from my phone). I checked but there are no other programs that require the connection. I'm not using any email account on the messages menu.
2. Same thing happened when I connected to my neighbour's wlan. It always keeps connecting to it, even after I go to the wlan menu and disconnect it. It just refreshes and goes all the way again to connect to it by any means possible.
I am using the Lumia 800 for the past three days and am in love with the phone. Works beautifully on WiFi the naviation once the maps are downlaoded is perfect and the touch and feel of the phone is absolutely brilliant.A sore point in the past three days is the patchy connection to GPRS on Airtel India. I have spent a few hours with their tech support and they are unable to get me online. I have update the firmware to the latest avaialble - 1750.0805.8773.12220 with no luch in connecting to the GPRS connection. The display shows an "E" next to the signal strength indicator but no luck in conncting.
The steps I have tried so far are as follows: a. Settings - Mobile Netwok - APN set to airtelgprs.com which is recomended. b. Used the default Network Setup software to update the settings,Reset the phone to uninstall all applications and bring back to default state assuming that one of the software issued caused this problem. Is there anything else for me to try before I take it to a Nokia Care centre for trouble shooting?

It is showing GPRS so it should be connecting.
I've clicked 'register now' for the host routing and it got back saying bb has been registered with wireless network. I've tried taking the battery out which hasn't worked either.
My c7-00 not connecting through edge/gprs network of tata docomo network,but that of reliance,airtel is working.it is not showing even E sign when packet data connection is "when available" mode. other ones are showing it.

the most annoying "feature" of the Nokia Lumia 1020 is that it impossible to switch the phone OFF when you don't need it.
This moronic phone decides on its own when to switch ON - as soon as the battery is charged just enough to start it, it tries to start, drains the battery and 5 minutes later tries again to start and keeps repeating this vicious circle to no end.
When you connect to a charger strong enough, it will charge BUT you SIMPLE CAN'T SWITCH IT OFF when you don't need it - this idiotic phone keeps restarting until the battery is drained!!!
There is no way that you can charge the phone and keep it switched off until you need it! Is there a way to keep a charged NOKIA Lumia1020 switched off when you don't need it?
I just got my invoice today and it claims that a lot of times I used the internet, while I only allowed the GPS to use the internet once. What can be the reason for this? How can I make sure my phone does not try to use the GPRS connection?I noticed in the GPS settings that A-GPS is used. Does that use an internet connection?

When I heard about the nightmares of lollipop (especially on VZW) I told her to avoid the update. Now, she's telling me that she was just forced to pick a time today for her to update, and at 5 pm tonight it will do it. Is there anything she can do to stop this update? I've been trying to use Ovi suite to connect my laptop to the internet using my Nokia E71. I have had limited success. Some pages always load fine such as wikipedia however others such as facebook just don't load at all. Has anyone else had similar experiences in some pages loading fine but others just not loading at all? I have tried multiple browsers and turned firewall off.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI have an unlocked TELUS Storm playing GSM on a Philippines carrier called Smart. The data connection and call reception quality here has been nothing but horrible. Dropped calls/Calls failed, etc are pretty rampant around here (no matter what part of town you're in)
Anyway, I'd _like_ to think it may be something to do with the fact that the device is not Smart authorized/sold device. However, the backward nature of cellphone networks here could argue me down.
Long story short, now that you know my troubles.. when I'm on a full GPRS/EDGE connection, I pull up the browser. Once I start getting ready to type in a URL, the GPRS/EDGE goes to gprs/edge. It happens about 98% of the time. This same thing happens when I go to URL from an email/sms etc. I can't seem to figure it out. I've been on .328, but upgrading to .419 as we speak. Thoughts would be nice.
When it asks me to download voice guideline it doesnt connect just endlessly displays connecting. I have no problems connecting with anything else.

And when i take the phone vertically to slide and answer at the same time screen trying to rotate to portrait mode and the touch screen or the phone can just freeze making me not to be able to answer the call.Is there a way to fix this issues? i've missed a lot of incoming call because of this issue. For the determination of the location only the internal gps is switched on. I don't want any roaming connection to internet during my stay in Spain.Starting OVI maps pops-up immediately the question for a connection to GPRS which I canceled.It is, if a connection is made to GPS, possible to find my possition but finding a route to a address doesn't work. All I get is the question to connect to GPRS and if I canceled that nothing happens, in other words it was not possible to search for a location / planning a route.Do I something wrong or is this standard behaviour of OVI maps?

I followed the instructions in Nokia site and took complete backup before upgrading and restored entire stuff after upgrade. Now, though my settings are intact as it was before upgrade and my operator (Airtel) also confirmed that my GPRS subscription is active, I can not connect to Web nor can check my emails. Whenever I attempt to browse, it gives an error message saying 'Connection Not available'! In fact, I checked inserting my CIM card to another Nokia phone and could browse Internet with same GPRS settings as in E71.
