Last week i“ve successfully updated my n5800xpress music with the latest fw 40.000.05 through NSU. Now i need some help with Ovi maps. So far i see there is a map on my device. It based on v3.01 09 and map ver 0.1.22.103. In order to use free Ovi maps so i need Ovi maps ver 3.03. These are some of my questions.
1.How to update my old Ovi maps to the new ver 3.03 through PC?
2.As i“ve read some of the thread regarding Ovi mapsthat in some case i maybe have to uninstall the old version. But when i check it through Application manager i couldn“t find neither ovi maps or nokia map but there is an Ovi store client in there.
3.Off topic. I wonder why when i start my fone sometimes some of the pictures in the contacts bar is not really in phocus? any suggestion?
The so called free Map with the version mentioned in the Subject and for the software version of my Nokia 5800 Xpress Music gets charged when I use it. It is not free turn-by-turn for me. I need to know why. Each time I use the map, I'm being charged, and if there is no credit, I cannot use the map. Kindly let me know why is it not free. I use Bahrain's Batelco network.
I've bought a new 5800 Xpress music recently and have three questions with Ovi maps: 1. I don't see any satellite (photo) maps when selecting the satellite mode in the display options; instead, the map is just filled with a pattern of alternating dark green and light green linear areas. How do I enable real satellite data, as shown in the attached picture? 2. The update speed of the map when navigating on foot or by car seems very slow. Is there some way to increase / improve this? 3. The phone doesn't seem to recognize really well if I hold it vertically or horizontally. Can I improve that behavior, or switch between manually?
Looking at my Installed Applications on my 5800XM I realised that there are the following two entries:
Nokia Maps 9MB
Ovi Maps 7MB
Are they supposed to be both there? Shouldn't the Nokia Maps application have been overwritten when updated to Ovi Maps? Can I manually remove the Nokia Maps application to free these 9MB of C: memory?
I've got a 5800 mx i downloaded maps & voice & they start to work ok but then i'm asked to buy a license, i thought it was free now, is there away around it, i'm on the 3 network
Just upgraded the software version of my Nokia N85 (RM-333) to version : 31.00.2 Then installed the Nokia map loader, selected the countries and languages i was interrested in and waited for about 20 minutes for everything to be installed, though never got any message on my actual phone which was still connected via USB.
Downloads are complete, so i try nokia maps on my phone (which i used during the free trial when i got the phone) but it still wants me to buy the maps? So guess it's not free yet then for the N85, so that was a morning well wasted trying to sort all this out.
Today I read about the new Ovi Maps being available with Free voice guidance, etc. Why is not being made available on the N97 till the end of the month. Yet again, Nokia's flagship phone missed out and we all have to wait. Everything about this phone is one big long wait. We have to wait for software, updates - when will Nokia get this correct. Why is it availbale on the N97 mini and not the N97?
I don't have an internet nor data plan, and was using my Ovi maps GPS, which I thought was free, and was later charged for 'internet data packet usage'. So now I'm not sure what is meant by 'free gps' ?
I'm from Romania and I want to use GPS for free but i can't.I don't lnow how work.Where is the download for Gps for my Nokia, how to install?I have already installed Maps but don't work,i can't see the maps.
My phone memory has fallen down to 26.3 Mb. I know that I have a lot of applications installed. I've tried to install most of them in the card memory but many of them (especially from OVI Apps) used the phone memory ignoring my settings. I also want to move all my messages from phone to card memory but I don't find a way to do it.
iv finaly managed to dwnload maps on my 5800,on start up the voice gives one command then says buy liscence, how do i overcome this?its says my liscence expired and when i upadte it gives me the price.
I'm having a problem with 5800XM and Windows7. Firstly it suddenly started to show phone as Portable Media Player in My Computer. And then it shows that both Phone Memory and Memory Card have 0 btes of free space left. I have tried copying files to memory card, but it won't allow me.
I have always been careful that whenever I have loaded a new app onto my Nokia 5800 that I have chosen to load it onto my 8GB memory card in the phone but now I am greeted in the phones file manger that c: only has 1.5mb memory left! and the other day I even got a message that drice c was full even though I was loading an app to the SD card in the phone - If I go through the file manger to C: there are folders but are empty, and if I used another app such as y browser or xplore - I find files on c but cannot delete them (presumably because nokia has locked them so they cannot be removed or because they are system files) so is there anything I can do? - I don't really want to go down the route of doing a full reset/format of the phone if I can avoid it.
Well I've had this PREPAY ph for 4 years and as far as I know, if I don't select A-GPS, it doesn't use data - until recently! (Maps V3.06 - maybe I've updated this recently). Is this possible or have I made an error somewhere?Settings: Positioning> Assisted GPS = Off, Integrated GPS = ON, Bluetooth GPS = Off, Wi-Fi/Network = Off, Network based = Off.But on two recent test trips, my prepay balance reduces by exactly $1 and my Log>Data counter shows about 500 kB received (less sent as I recall - zeroed since). Note: $1 is standard Voda daily data rate per day in NZ up to 1 MB.So I'm pretty sure the GPS is costing me $1/day even though I have A-GPS et al switched off! In both tests I ensured I have not used the phone for anything but navigation (using Walk navigation with voice).
I was really disapointed that E90 wasn't on supported models list. When this free feature will be available also for Nokia e90 communicator? Or will it be ever?
I just installed the new and free ovi maps on my nokia 5800 but after a few seconds while navigating it keeps telling me that my licence has expired. Why is this? Does this mean that ovi maps isn't free after all? I used to have this free trial licence a year ago, and i am prompted to renew this licence.
This is the first time to be here. Just want to know if my Nokia 6220 Classic is one of the free OVI maps as mentioned here: http://maps.nokia.com/explore-services/ovi-maps And if not is there is any possibility to be free?
Nokia OVI Maps - Free Navigation Mobile navigation for everyone, the Ovi Maps takes you where you want to be and shows you what you want see, with navigable maps for over 70 countries worldwide. All this with only one click. And it's all free. - Free Drive navigation - Free Walk navigation - Free maps and map updates - Free Events guides - Free Lonely Planet guides - Free Michelin guides You thought Garmin and TomTom were in trouble when Google announced its free Navigation service? Wait until investors hear Nokia's news.Reuters is reporting that Nokia will offer free navigation on its smartphones. However, instead of just the US (the current Google limitation sans hacking), Nokia will be demonstrating its reach by offering free turn-by-turn directions in 74 countries and 46 languages - a move that should cover 20 million smartphones globally with Ovi Maps available in over 180 countries Update: The original San Francisco Chronicle report has been pulled but Google cache caught a bit more saying that Nokia's navigation service is "capable of operating completely offline" unlike Google Navigation which requires data connectivity. Update 2: Nokia just made the download link live. Hey, where's the N97 and N900. Update 3: And it's official. Starting today, Ovi Maps walk and drive navigation is free across the globe. Drivers receive turn-by-turn voice guidance including lane assistance, traffic information (in 10 countries including the US), and safety camera and speed warnings while pedestrians will be guided on shortcuts through parks and pedestrian-only zones in over 100 cities across the globe. It all works offline too, which should extend battery life and keep that navigation humming even while puttering about in data dead zones without racking up international roaming charges (take that, Google). From March 2010, all new Nokia GPS enabled smartphones will come installed with the new Ovi Maps application and pre-loaded with local country map data and walk and drive navigation with access to location-aware Lonely Planet and Michelin travel guides at no extra cost. Additional premium guides like a weather service and events / movies are also included. Just 10 devices from Nokia's massive catalog are available today a list that includes the N97 Mini, 5800 XpressMusic, 5800 navigation edition, E52, E55, E72, 5230, 6710 navigator, 6730 classic and X6. I am happy to annouce that Ovi Maps 3.03 is now available for the N97. To get Free Navigation on your device please take the following steps: 1) Check that you have the latest N97 FW: 20.0.019. Learn how to check your current version and update at www.nokia.com/softwareupdate?n97 2)Once you have this firmware, you can go to Software Update on your device and the new version will appear for download. You should also be prompted as you open the Maps application on your device (online connection required).
Why is the nokia free navigation not available on the n96. i understand its not available on the n97 due to the FW having bugs but that is being resolved, Does anyone no when it will be available for the n96 I dont pretend to know everything like some people on these boards i am just trying to help. Its not all about the kudos.
I have downloaded OVI maps 3.04 and I still get the message "Online connection required to enter the shop". Do I need a license # or do I have to uninstall something?
I know the free license for S60 3rd edition, Feature Pack 1 devices haven't come yet (except for E71 and E66). But nokia can give our poor old devices working on FP1 free navigation license for life time. As they used to provide free voice guided navigation for free for a week (or 7 days). So the same way they could provide our devices with free navigation for lifetime if they can't make new version of maps then. The OVI maps 3.0 works flawlessly in N82, N95. If nokia somehow decides to give the activation key for lifetime navigation then we all users would be very grateful.
So anybody who likes this post could support me and please give kudos to me. We can mail this post to nokia and if they listens poor chap's cry then we would also be among the ones using free navigation in our phones!
this is for the all the people nokia and phone operators has felt to screw overseeing as i cannot update my nokia 5800 from v30 to v31 i cannot use the free maps service seeing as im on the phone network 3 and ive heard they do not release updates at all, and my friend has a nokia e71 and also cannot use the new version of maps.therefore, dont you think that the previous version of maps should be made free so that people who have happened to choose the wrong phone or network operator can also use maps for free.i really do not see why i have to pay £X amount a year just because im on a different network (not blaming nokia at this point) so would it really be that much trouble for them to make the previous ovi maps free to all or at least make the new ovi maps avaiable to people with lower firmware
Nokia has announced that Map usage for driving and walking will be free in future and it is possible to download the software for some phones. When and how willl I be able to use the Map software on my E75 for free, I have already updated to the latest firmware and Map software, but I am still being prompted to purchase a licence.
I would like to know if the Free Ovi maps available for E71 Nokia as well or I have to get E72? I tried to install few mins ago, sad that 'Unable to install. No Access'' Is that a compatibility problem or there is something wrong with anything else?
