Motorola Xoom :: OTG Cable Not Giving Full Mass Storage
Aug 10, 2011
I have an OTG cable and it was my understanding that although this wouldn't give me full "mass storage" it would at least allow me to access media on an attached USB flash drive? Have I missed something?I have File Station and am not rooted
I've encountered with my Xoom FE.I have no pictures, music, or videos at all on the device - only apps.I added up the total of every single app including data and cache and it only takes up a small fraction of the devices storage.when I checked the storage in the settings, it says I only have 4.15GB of the available space and that my apps are taking up 7.28GB.There is just no way I can see how that is possible.I should have the majority of the available space left.I could do a factory reset but that would bite.Is there anything I'm missing that I can try to figure out why it's showing up so much app space?Even with the caches and data cleared, it doesn't help. Also, I have a few downloads in there but they take up very few MBs much less a GB.
One other thing I have nearly the exact same apps with ebooks and a few games on my Galaxy Nexus and my older and smaller but trusty HTC Flyer tab. They both show my apps taking up a fraction of the space that my Xoom FE does.I use AndroZip Pro as a file manager and it shows the same thing so something is up.
I got my Bold 9000 a few days ago. When I plug in my USB cable. It does not show the "Enable mass storage mode". On my 8520 It will always show it. Yes I set the setting in memory to "Prompt" But I dont get the prompt? I have to use a card reader to remove/add stuff now. Its kind of annoying. Instead of just plugging in the USB and click and dragging stuff.Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
When I plug in My X2 Firmware Version 4.90 using cable to my computer and that have three selection for select 1)Nokia Ovi Suite 2)Media Transfer 3)Mass Storage, I selected the first of two option that see function properly but when i select third option (3) "MASS STORAGE" that sure this "Access memory card from connected device. Press done when finished. When i Press Done that show back the three option as mention above, It is this normal or got firmware phone bugs issue.
The owners manual says you can do it but neglects to tell you where to go do it. When I connect the cable to my PC (Windows XP) Windows Explorer briefly shows "Xoom" as a removable drive but that quickly disappears.
I've run into a bit of a problem, as have MANY Photon 4G owners have as well.since mounting my Electrify as a USB mass storage device (the two "MOT" drives pop up in explorer), now the internal storage (which is where everything is) comes up as an unreadable drive. It mounted fine when I got it, then stopped working, then worked for a day, now it doesn't work.I've tried uninstalling drivers, taking out the battery, SD card, etc etc.
When I put my Atrix at the USB mass storage mode with connecting to a PC via USB cable, the App icons on the home screens disappeared immediately if the App was stored at the internal build-in storage (Not SD card). They will not be back on the home screens automatically after exited from USB mass storage mode. I have to put them back by myself.
I had the number changed on my phone. Everyting worked until then. I can connect in all modes except for USB Mass Storage. I have updated my drivers, enabled USB debugging, etc. It works on another Windows 7 computer, but not on my main laptop. No matter what I do, it will not find the Mass Storage drivers. Everything else works great. I have to run in Mass Storage mode to get to some files for a work app.
I dont get when we're told about an upgrade, that you find it acceptable to TAKE AWAY features? i have been choosing Android over Apple for years for things such as USB Mass Storage mode. I know people who plug their phones in USB to their car CD Players and use it as if it were a flash drive. Now those users who may just have purchased a new phone are now screwed. You add features for upgrades not remove them. I am shocked and truthfully appualed to see where this new type of developer planning can lead to. Next were going to get pushed onto the cloud. If I'm going to remain an Android enthusiast and recommend Android to others you will not take away the things that brought me to Android! I could seriously put my Env touch before ever getting the FIRST OG Droid in Mass Storage Mode. This is not being posted to ruffle the feathers of users on this forum. This is intended as a wake up call to the developers to realize it was us phone enthusiasts that started this smart phone revolution anyways. We ousted Blackberry when they started acting like a bunch of tools. Don't do the same.
So I just HAD to have the multimedia dock for my Photon 4G. It's wonderful, and more convenient than fishing for cables when I need to charge the battery.
It doesn't seem to recognize that I have plugged a USB cable from the dock to my PC? What I wanted to do, was use it in the USB Mass Storage mode just like I do with a cable--nice fast file transfers, using the file explorer on my PC...
The feature to use the Razr M as a Mass Storage device when connected to a computer is missing in the Android 4.1.1 (JB) update. This feature is very important to me as a Linux user. This feature was present when I purchased the phone and Android 4.0.4 (ICS). The Motorola help pages also make reference to the Mass Storage option for USB connections.
Everytime I connect my Droid3 to the computer my Droid Pulls pictures and music FROM my PC and puts it on the phone. Sometimes it will pull All of my pictures, and sometimes it randomly selects 2 or 3 HUNDRED of them. I recently decided to add some music to my phone and as I was creating my "playlist" to sync to my droid, I noticed that something was happening. Before I even hit sync, my phone pulled ALL of the music off my computer and stored it on my phone.
I have tried to delete the pictures by going into the file on the computer and I get half way through when it locks up. I have to delete EACH picture.
I have gone to the Verizon Store, they have never heard of this happening. They did a reset, which thrilled me because I lost all of my ringtones and downloaded apps. It also erased all the personalized ringtones I had set.
Before disconnecting my Photon from my Windows 7 computer I always eject the media prior to disconnecting the cable. I have a microSD card installed in my photon, so when I connect to the computer, two drives appear. It used to be when I clicked on the icon to eject the drives, the two drives displayed under MB855 and I could click on MB855 and eject both drives at once. I noticed recently that this is no longer the case. MB855 is greyed out and each drive must be ejected individually. At first I thought this was due to a change on my computer, but when I connected the phone to my other Windows 7 I saw the exact same behavior. When I connect my external WD HD, which has multiple partitions, to my computer it allows both partitions to be ejected at the same time, so now I'm thinking this change of behavior might be do to the recent Photon update. How to change this behavior so that both drives can once again be ejected at the same time?
There is still a problem when you connect your phone to usb mass storage disappear from the desktop shortcuts to programs that are installed in the media area. Which is why is that?
I have the phone connected to Windows (XP) and I can't disconnect it as a mass storage device from the phone.. I pull the drop-down down and tap "Connected as mass storage" and then try to uncheck Mass Storage... and nothing happens. Wonderful. I guess I have to disconnect through Windows or just rip the cable out of the computer; now I feel safer.
I seem to have this keyboard lag when typing in text box in the browser. So far I've tried this very forum, composing new message on gmail, and on Facebook.
My Bionic is connected to my Exchange Server @ my Firm. My Firm requires Device/Storage Encryption, which the Bionic supports just fine. Now that our phones/SD cards are encrypted when the phone is connected to a PC and the SD card mounted the pics are no longer readable because they are encrypted. Windows is unable to read them, if I email that pic from my phone to my gmail I can open it just fine. If I try to open it direct from the SD its a NO GO. I already ruled out that its my PC I tried 5 other including my personal PC at home...NO GO! So how to I access the pictures direct off the SD?
I've just upgraded to ICS 4.0.4 for the Telstra Xoom 3G model, I was expecting the I could mount a USB device on my tablet much like I've been doing on my phone. After the Upgrade I still can't see the USB device mounted?
As I was texting, a message popped up stating that my phone storage was full. I stopped and checked the storage and memory space to see that they were perfectly fine. I went back to send another text and the message popped up again, the message didn't send and when I tried to access my texting again, it force closed until I rebooted the phone. I am using the stock messaging app, but a different home launcher. I have not previously had problems with this in the past using this same launcher, and only had 38 conversations going (all with only a few texts in each). Does any have any idea as to the reason for this and how I could solve this issue?
I have a few admirals at work. Is there any way to turn the orientation of the screen when the HDMI cable is plugged in.
Currently when i use the HDMI cable the screen turns such that the cable goes in from the bottom which if the XOOM is on my lap is awkward. It would bebetter if the HDMI port was at the top.
I was using the camera to document something I am doing. I took a few pictures and then hit the power button to shut off the screen, When I later hit the power buttom to wake my wifi xoom, the xoom awoke back into the camera app, however, the screen for the picture was black. I hit the "back" button and it illuminated blue to indicate that I had hit it but it remained blue. It was stuck. I hit "home" and it gave me a message to force close the camera or wait. I force closed it and attempted to restart the camera app. It wouldn't restart so I rebooted the xoom. Now, the camera app starts up and shows a picture, however, I get the subject message "Mount USB Storage Before Using the Camera"
I'm having a strange issue on my Wifi Xoom (running the recently pushed ICS). I recently installed an app (the Caustic demo) from the market. Caustic sets up a basic file structure in storage for storing instrument sample files. Well, after uninstalling the demo, I went to remove the leftover files (via ASTRO) and it said "Error deleting files". I dig into the subdir and tried some individual files, but got the same result. I tried another file manager (EStrongs) but got the same result. I then tried mounting on Windows and deleting that way. It appeared to work (crunched for a second, then the files disappeared without any errors given). But the files still show up in ASTRO, and when I re-mount on Windows, they're still there.
Oh and this is only happening with this directory. Other files and directories can be deleted just fine. Is there a problem with my Xoom, or did the app author do something improper with setting up the directory?
Recently my Nokia 5800 has had problems connecting to my computer through Mass Storage option. Will connect no problem through PC Suite but not as a USB Mass storage.Have re-downloaded the drivers and installed them again and still same problem.
Whenever i connect this phone to PC using Mass storage mode
it shows the drive but when i open it, it says "please insert in drive..." or when i check drive properties, it says Size availble as 0 and used also as 0.
In short, it is not detecting the memory card although it works fine with OVI
