Why is this not happening for the Xoom? For a device of this caliber it is a no brainer, but yet it doesn't exist. Without using alternative measures is anything in the works from Motorola or Google? I'm not really interested in a manager that dictates my device like iTunes does, but more along the lines of a system image creator/restorer.
View 7 RepliesI had everything working fine on 5.0.592 for a week or more. I tried to restore some contacts from a prev backup and now all the sudden my email functionality is messed up. I have it linked to my GMAIL acct. Things I noticed since that contact backup is now when i go to delete a message, it will not prompt to delete from device only or device and inbox Also I can hit reply on some, but when I go to send, there is no send option. And lastly when I delete from my phone, it does not mark as read or delete from my inbox. i checked all the settings I can find. But nothing changed.

Highlighting of text selections is not available, so cut and paste of text is not possible. The mouse can grab a widget in a window, and left click allows dragging right or left to a different window. The right mouse button seems nonfunctional.The Moto BT KB will function simultaneously with the mouse. I haven't had time to test BT audio yet.

P990i wireless LAN functionality. Advice please. I just had a look through the PDF manual for the P990i but couldn't find the answer, so I am hoping that someone here as the answers.
1. WiFi Ad Hoc network
I note that one can connect to Hotspots but can one connect to an Ad Hoc network, say a laptop, and if so how/what settings (or is an app needed)?
2. WiFi file browsing
I would like to be able to connect to another computer by WiFi, see the files on that computer and to be able to exchange files between the two devices by WiFi. Is this possible?
3. WiFi file transfer
If browsing is not possible I would at least like to be able to send files from and to the P990i by WiFi. Is this possible? (I note that the Send option of the inbuilt file browser has options only for Bluetooth and IR)
4. WiFi back-up device
I would be extremely happy if I could use the P990i as a backup device.
What I would like to be able to do is to set my laptop or camera to automatically send files to the P900i by WiFi and for the P990i to receive them into a folder on the external Memory Stick. Is this at all possible?
Does the new Backup functionality save game progress?

It mentions backing up to the SD card and since there is no SD card in the Xoom ( although they call memory SD card ), are they talking about backing up to an actual SD card or are they referring to what shows in the Xoom as sdcard?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn the process of preparing my Xoom for its return to Motorola for an LTE upgrade, I attempted to backup up "Internal Storage" to two different Windows XP machines. Despite numerous hard resets of the Xoom and numerous restarts of the XP machines, I had numerous problems in successfully copying all files. Despite selecting all folders, less than half would transfer during copy/paste. At least one file name in the "Android" folder was too long for Windows XP, but I didn't have time to find it(them). Moreover, 14gb of files disappeared from my external SD card, as did several folders from the internal SD card. I am an above-average computer user, and have never had this kind of trouble

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am following the instructions to copy the files from my xoom to a windows 7 PC (64 bit). It does not copy all the files and folders. For example when I do the select all instructed I only get 4 of the 13GB of data. I saw that it only copied the music files in the directory music, none of the sub-directories. I could then select all the folders in music and copy them over (none of my music on the xoom has any DRM). I was still missing some files. When I hook the xoom up via the USB cable I get the following mounted:

I can not drag Internal Storage to the folder created on the windows 7 pc, it is just a red circle with a line thru it. I can select all the directories/folders under Internal Storage, but it randomly picks which directories/files/sub-directories to copy.
Perhaps a problem with the win 7 pc driver?
Before I send the xoom off (and I have my packing box already) I would like to back it up completely.
I have Vista on my desktop computer. I see Xoom under "My Computer", I found "Device Storage" and started copying the files from Xoom to a new folder. All of a sudden Vista stopped copying the folders and daid it can't read from the device.ow after updating the drivers with Download Motorola 5.2.0 Driver with MotoHelper* , checking to see if USB Debugging is unchecked and pulling my hair out, there is no Device Storage displaying to access. My 'backup and restore' app won't back up my text messages... it backs up the other things on the list for example the contacts, call logs, brower history etc. I would like to save the messages before I update my phone.Or unless there is another way of saving my messages, i.e. saving them onto a pc or something.I have a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had faced this issue when i last updated my phone when the 2.1 had come out.. I installed the latest Backup and Restore application as recomended by the SE update site.. Then backed up my files onto an already existing backup (which i think has corrupted the backup), hence overwriting the file.. After that i upgraded to 2.1 and restored my files, which failed because the contacts were not successfully imported (even though the Backup and Restore app said that the import was succesful.)
i was asked to repair the firmware using PC companion and hence want to backup succesfully without any problems. I cant risk loosing my contacts again. And i want to know from others in this forum if they have faced this issue on normal backup (not overwritten on an existing backup). [URL]
I have lost ~20 pictures I took during my family's 4th of July event this weekend. It was the first time they have met my 17 month old daughter. Normally I wouldn't sweat loosing pictures, but these are very important to me.It restored every picture up until the backup I did before I left Sunday morning. I finally updated my iPhone to 5.1. I waited so long because of the fiasco updating my iPod Touch when 5.0 first came out. I thought it worked, I was pleased Apple worked out the bugs. Lo and behold, all of my apps and folders disappeared before my eyes. No problem I thought, I did a back up. Restore from back up. Fifteen minutes later, it looks exactly the same. Isn't a backup supposed to be of everything on the system so that if something goes wrong, you just revert back to the back up and either try again or wait for the process to be fixed? Seriously, get your stuff together.

I just updated to iOS 5.1.1 on my 3GS phone, previously using 5.0, while plugged into the computer and iTunes 10.6.3. I had the phone set to backup to iCloud, and ran a sync operation before updating.Does that not also create a backup?When the restore process began, it asked if I wanted to set up as a new phone or restore from backup. However the list of available backups did not have anything from today.The last one listed was from October 2011.So I cancelled that operation, went through the new phone setup and then it asked if I wanted to restore from iCloud. So I chose the most recent iCloud backup which was from around 6 AM this morning. Now it is in the process of downloading all my apps, pics, and perhaps music as well. I don't know but it's going to take HOURS to finish this.
Anyway I opened some apps that have already downloaded, and some app data appears to be intact. But other apps have nothing after October 2011. And I'm talking apps that have tracked my fitness and workout progress over the past 6 months, bike rides in the past few months, car fuel fillup and maintenance history since October, I'm talking LOTS of data that appears to be gone.What did I do wrong here? Did I not do what I should have done regarding backups? What is the point of backing up to iCloud if it's not going to back up all my app data?

I have been using my iPhone 4 as an iPod for a while because I'm waiting for AT&T to unlock it. I wanted to restore my phone to backup in my computer, but the restore button only restored my phone to factory settings, and it now tells me to activate the phone but I don't have the original SIM. Is there a way to restore to backup without activating the phone?

Noted previously that the "Favorites" widget now requires extra steps to manage which contacts are in or out of the widget and where they appear.
This retro less-intuitive-but-more-steps disease seems also to have struck Apps Groups. TPTB that they assign the designer for the folder replacement to manage the whole GUI. Or at least give her/him veto over going backwards.
Don't mean to be snotty, but when my 2012 phone has built-in apps from 1995, I become despondent and irritable.
After the update to 2.2 I can no longer disable the screen lock "slider". Has any been able to get it to work like it did in previous versions? I do not want to have to use the slider everytime the phone sleeps.

Who thought it would be a good idea to remove the functionality to assign each email account their own notification ringtone? I use this as a tool to know when an email is from my personal account or from my work account. Now I have to pick the phone every time to find out which it was. That was dumb of Motorola. It need to be returned to it's previous level of functionality. I speaking of the corporate email accounts specifically.

So i got the new phone and immediately updated to 5.0 and did an hard reset. My question is, does restoring the backup bring any harm since i did it on another phone? Or should i start from scratch?
