Motorola Droid X :: Widgets Disappearing After Gingerbread Update?
Jun 15, 2011
I've noticed that since the Gingerbread update, occasionally (perhaps three or four times over the past week or two) a stock widget or two disappears from my home (or other) screen. This never happened with Froyo. This morning my stock Bluetooth widget was gone and I had to reinstall it. I am almost religious about pressing the Power button while on my home page to blank the screen before placing my phone in its holster. That has always prevented inadvertent button presses on the screen.
When is it reasonable to expect the X2 to receive the update to Gingerbread not that the Droid X is receiving it in the field? As a consumer I would have expected the newest model of the Motorola family to have been shipped with Gingerbread but seing the old model Droid X receive it before the X2 is a little puzzling.
This morning I was prompted to download & install the new update OTA. I have attempted to do so 4-5 times now. Each time, it completes the download, reboots the phone to start the update, then when the update progress bar is about 1/2 of the way through, an icon with an exclamation point appears & then the update stops. The phone proceeds to boot up like normal. After it finishes booting up it displays a message stating that the update failed.I really would like to NOT have to do a factory reset to my phone just to get the update to install
I recently updated to 2.3 about two weeks ago. Everything was fine at first recently while typing every time I hit the space bar it takes the keyboard away. I've tried clearing the message cache.
Noticed that vzw started pushing the Gingerbread update to D2's and I decided to un root and try it out for myself. I recived an update after I un rooted and reset to factory settings but nothing Gingerbread related even after searching manually through the update check in "about phone". I am stuck on 2.2
I'm using a non-rooted device. I pulled the OTA update for gingerbread and it downloaded successfully. When it restarts it loads up to the boot screen and begins installation. It gets about 1/4 of the way before I get an exclamation error and the phone restarts. I've tried it multiple times and even formatted my phone before trying it.
I got the Gingerbread update the end of last week and for the most part everything is great. Phone is much more responsive overall and the Motoblur updates seem good as well. I am having one new problem though. Three times now I've unplugged my phone from the charger in the morning and it has been locked up. The green notification light is flashing so it's not totally dead. No combination of keys will wake it up though. Have to pull the battery to reset it (which is a pain with the Body Glove case).
The release notes for Gingerbread make note of automatic dialing of conference call codes from the calendar entry:
Easy conference dialing allows you to dial the conference number and the meeting code will be automatically entered directly from your Calendar.
I have not be able to get this function to work, nor have I been able to find any references to it in the manuals or support sites. how the numbers have to be formated in the calendar entry?? Is the a 'special' field that they have to be entered?
I manually pulled the gingerbread update from Systems Updates on my Droid X (stock, no root). The update was successful and today was the first day I needed to record a video using the camcorder application. I noticed that my phone defaults to DVD video quality and does not have the option for HD anymore. My wife has the same phone and we updated hers at the same time and she DOES have the HD option for the camcorder.
I have rebooted the phone as well as pulled the battery and let it sit for awhile all with no luck. Both have all the same version numbers except for PRL version, which I believeis just for roaming.
Before the gingerbread update, the LED worked great. It always blinked when I had a text message waiting for me, or anything else. After the gingerbread update, most of the time the LED won't blink if you lock the phone while still in the messaging app. It still works fine for everything else (Emails, calendar etc) but if you lock the phone before exiting out of the texting/messaging app, I would say %90 of the time the LED won't blink. If you exit the messaging app before you lock your phone, the LED works fine.
The LED worked great in froyo, sucks that's its kinda broken on gingerbread. Is this a known issue for Moto? Just adding in that I have already tried a factory reset and this did not resolve the issue.
After the gingerbread update I've noticed that my calendar is no longer updated with my corporate entries. The email still syncs correctly and believes I have my corporate sync account. However, in the Accounts list, the corporate sync account is missing. I attempted to set it up again and I get an error: "This account has already been added". The only thing I could think of is I had Touchdown installed prior to the update. Is there any way to purge the account without a factory reset?
found a terminal program and ran the dmesg command. I dont know much about android, but everytime this shows up in the dmesg output "qtouch_force_reset:forcing HW reset" it corrosponds to a time my phone randomly reboots.
handsfree bluetooth completely not working after the Gingerbread update? I have an 08 Titan with the built in bluetooth and everything worked perfectly on Froyo. Since the OTA update, I can pair and connect but can't actually hand the call off to bluetooth. I try selecting bluetooth on the in call screen and it seems like it tries but I get no audio at all and it just kicks back to normal phone call mode. Speaker works.
Anyone know when Gingerbread is released for the Droid X if it will support configuring a Proxy Server for WiFi? I noticed Motorola just recently provided an update for the Droid Pro to allow proxy settings. This sure would be helpful for those of us using the DX for business.
My wife and I both downloaded the new Gingerbread update today on our Droid Xs. Everything went smoothly, and love the interface, cut copy and paste features especially. The only problem I'm facing right now is in contacts we both had e-mailed groups set up. I have over 500 contacts with the business I have. I personally needed to have three groups in my contacts: one for personal, business, and business active.
What has happened after updating Gingerbread is all of our contact "groups" are now in what is called "My account groups". I cannot edit add or delete any member in these groups. Any trick to editing or deleting or adding to the groups in "My account groups"? The only workaround I have found is to create a new group and select each and every member in my contact list again which consists of going through almost 500 contacts and splitting them into three categories.
Anyone notice that when using Factory widgets for the time and weather that the time doesn't update? It work fine before GB. I uninstalled it and then tried the moto and Verizon widgets the work fine.
I've had some fun with the phone lately, in that I've re-flashed it a few times. The SW Version was unknown after updating to 51 OTA, then flashed with Global, then back to UK and then updated to 51 OTA again (as can't download 51 UK yet).
Now noticing that the Widgets have a habit of randomly disappearing off my desktop, so I have to re-add them. Not sure what causes it or why,
I'm stock unrooted and still waiting for the 6.0.1 update.
Starting yesterday, all of my widgets began just disappearing. I put them back, and and later in the day they're gone again. Three of them on two different home screens.
I have the Motorola Milestone X, an exact clone of the Droid X, but for the wireless company Alltel. I am wondering if I will be receving the gingerbread update like the Droid X users are?

ICS lacks two important features: 1) stand-alone native toggles for GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, airplane mode, etc. (lack of these was one of the reasons i returned the galaxy nexus and replaced it with the Maxx) and 2) a clean easy way of toggling between 3G/4G. Im aware of the LTE on/off app from the market but it's not as clean, simple, and easy as the way you could toggle between CDMA and LTE before. Hoping motorola adds these back someday....
With froyo I used to plug my phone into the computer, then insert a jpg named albumart.jpg into each music albums folder, along side the songs from the album. This would be recognized by the stock music player. I'm trying to do this now and cannot get it to work.
I tried various clock widgets and since upgrade to GB, the time does not update, the clock on the top status bar will have the correct time and the widget will show like 2 hours ago. If I tap the widget, it refreshes and shows the correct time, otherwise it's stuck. Anyone have a flip clock widget (ala HTC Sense clock), preferably with weather that will work with the DroidX and GB? Will the new mr6 update in mid-august fix this? Analog clocks seem to work, so my guess it's some sort of update/refresh service in GB is not working correctly.
Have noticed that if I add a new widget from the market, the only way to get it to show up in the app tray is to power off/on the phone. I check the Apps Manager, and they are there, but not in the Apps/Widget tray until the power off/on sequence.
Do we need a refresh option in the tray or is this an isolated issue with my phone. Has anyone else experienced this.
Clock will randomly flip from digital to analog and tapping on new SMS notification will bring me to the write a new message screen, not the message the widget is notifying me about. It is not a problem on my RAZR M which is perplexing.
I've noticed that after the ICS update, newly downloaded and installed widgets from Google Play don't show up in the Widgets list until I reboot. Not a critical bug, but annoying nonetheless. I have noticed this on my Acer A500 and A100 tablets on ICS as well, so I assume it's an OS problem, not hardware-specific. Wondering if anyone has found a workaround, and would also like Moto to be aware of this so that it can be corrected in the (hopefully) next update.
Moved a number of apps to the Media Area, nothing seemed to change in where things where things were stored. The only thing that happens is that my apps keep disappearing. Have since moved apps back after several times of reloading.
After the GB update, anytime that I mount/unmount the SD card, any icons that i have created dissapear from the home pages. This is only for apps that I moved to the SD card. I've tried rebooting, and no change. Any thoughts? BTW, I did a full wipe and reset after the GB installation.
With Froyo, if the card was unmounted, any app moved to the SD card, the shortcut icons were shown as generic with a gear icon. However, once mounted, the the app icon would be restored.
