Motorola Droid Bionic :: Why Would Screen Lock Up During A Call
Feb 3, 2012
My phone locked up/screen went black during a phonecall yesterday. It was at night. So, it was dark where I was. I tried to access the screen. It would produce a faint light, but would not let me access the screen, phone or any apps. I was talking on a bluetooth headset at the time. Normally at the end of a call, I could hang up the phone by pushing a button on my headset. That wouldn't work either. The only way I could hang up the phone was to pull the battery.
how to diagnose the problem or stop it from happening again? Or, is this just a BSOD (black screen of death where phone locks up and requires a battery pull) that happened while I was in a phone call?
On my Bionic, I am using the pattern unlock, and have my device set to automatically lock after 20 minutes. However, there are times where I want to be able to lock my phone immediately, wihtout having to wait 20 minutes. On my blackberry, there was an easy way to do just (hold down the a key for a few seconds)
A new feature in the Security and Screen Lock settings is the ability to add your Owner Info.(Settings/Security & Screen Lock/Owner Info)The owner info then displays (it scrolls actually) across the top of the lock screen (if you don't use a lock screen, it doesn't display). For my info, I have my name, my google voice number, and an email address.I previously had an app to do this, but with ICS I no longer need it. I mention this feature because of something that happened to me this weekend. I have an Android ICS tablet on which I've also entered the owner info. I left it in a public place this past weekend. Before I had even gotten back to my hotel, I had received emails and phone calls from the person who found the tablet, turned it on, and used the Owner Info to contact me.Saved me at least $300 it would have taken to replace it. Which wasn't the worst thing - I had taken the memory card out of my camera and put it in the tablet. I would have been extremely upset at losing of days worth of very important photos that could have never been replaced.
I recently noticed that my Bionic appears to disconnect from wifi when the screen locks. When I unlock the screen (and I have the dot pattern unlock), there's no wifi icon for a few seconds.
I have unlimited data, but still keep my DB on wifi all the time at home and the office. I'm guessing the DB goes into 4G or 3G mode when locked, which could be problematical if I had a measured data plan. Anyone else notice this behavior?
I've noticed something strange on my Bionic. If I enable any of the screen lock mechanisms (password, pin, or pattern), the home and search keys stop working. I have to hit the back key multiple times if I'm within an app to get back to my homescreen so I can open the app drawer.
I'm running ICS on a Droid Bionic and the lockscreen clock is wrong. In settings, I have "automatic date & time" and "automatic time zone" selected. The Lock Screen is showing 5:15pm no matter what time it is. All other time functions seem to be correct.
I have the lock screen disabled, yet after I send or receive a text (using Handcent) my screen locks. I checked my Handcent setup and all the screen locking and security features are disabled as well.
Why does my Razr Maxx go to lock-screen in the middle of a phone call? All my past androids stayed in an 'awake' condition while actively engaged in a call. Then, when the proximity sensor was triggered when you removed the phone from your face, the screen would light-up, the phone screen woudl be present, and you would simply end the call. Now, when I remove the phone from my face I find the lock-screen, so I must first unlock it before I can end the call. I have searched for a settings to fix this and cannot locate what I need
When I receive a sms message sometimes, the original text comes through fine. However, a few minutes later I get small bits and pieces of the original message sent to me in about 10 separate text messages ( sometimes more ) from a California telephone number (I live in Mass.). When I call that number from my Bionic, it goes right ot my voice mail voice mail. When I call the number from a landline, it states that the call cannot be completed.
I have this need for low resolution pictures. would like 640x480 at 1/2 meg or so. But if that isn't possible, can I lock in a lower 1mb setting? Now it takes it at a higher resolution and I have to resize each picture.
I activated the pattern lock to see if I liked it. I don't!Went to settings/ Location and security/use visible pattern/"uncheck box. (Any sane person would asume this would disingauge the visable lock screen. Not so batman.... Just because this is how you turned it on does not mean it will turn if off!!!!)Go back to home screen. When slide security screen is pushed aside. There is the visable lock pattern screen again
Is there any way to lock the white balance on the video cam on the Bionic? When panning with this camera across different scenes the Auto White balance is constanly bouncing the color all over the place, it's distracting. There needs to be some ay to manualy set the white ballance.
Has anybody else noticed that when you are on the phone, you are unable to adjust the volume while the phone is next to your ear.. I have went through 3 bionics and all of them have had this issue, in order for me to adjust the volume during a phone call I have to pull it away from my ear, let the screen light up, and then it will let me change it..
Wow that was weird. My Bionic just rebooted after I answered a call. The other party began to speak and bam it rebooted. I have never had that happen before. I am glad it was a call from one of my employees and not a client!
The application contacts storage (process com.motorola.contacts) has stoped unexpectedly. Has anyone been having this problem and is there a fix. I cant call any of my contacts and this is a real pain in the but for real. Due I need to change from moto WOW!
It happened again today. I picked up the phone to make a call and it was in the middle of rebooting. It had been sitting idle for over an hour.I rebooted it myself the night before just prior to connecting it to the charger.
I just found a problem with my Bionic today. I was trying to access my voicemail and had to hit the number 1 on the dial pad during a call to enter my mailbox number.
The number 1 would not do anything during the call. All other numbers worked. If I kept trying to press the number 1 the screen would go black for a second then return with the dial pad. A factory reset did not cure it.
I went to a local Verizon store and the person there told me that this is a known issue and it only happens when the volume is up full. He then said that I have to put the volume down to 1/2 in order for the number 1 to work properly during a call
I called Motorola when I returned home and was told that this is not a known issue - they never heard of it.
Researching on Google and this Forum I have found others that have had this same issue. I have not heard of any resolution yet.
Both Motorola and Verizon Phone Tech Support recommended replacing the phone. Verizon Tech Support was supposed to call me back in an hour after my call with them to see what I wanted to do but never did. I was supposed to keep trying the number 1 after they had me force stop and clear the dialer and virtual keyboard. The problem still exists.
I only have a matter of hours before my 14 days is up at Verizon at which point I will be given a refurbished phone. For some reason I could not log onto this forum today to post this. I just now got in.
Do any other owners of the Bionic experience this? I don't want to replace the phone if they all do it. It's down to the wire now!
This is my first "smart" phone and I have a question that (I hope) has a simple answer. The phone produces sounds when e-mails or text messages come in as well as for phone calls, and I want it too. Except at night. Is there a way to set the Bionic so that ONLY an incoming phone call produces a sound?I have an elderly mother and need to receive an emergency phone call. However, I don't need want the phone to wake me up any time an e-mail or text message arrives. Sleep mode allows calls to come in but there is no sound.
In the past - namely when I owned the Droid X - while in a call, I was able to press the volume up and volume keys successfully to adjust the in-call volume while I held the phone to my ear. Albeit the screen was turned off, the volume adjustment responded properly. I find now with the Bionic that I cannot adjust the volume while the phone is against my ear and that I actually have to move the phone far enough away from my face in order for the screen to turn back on and allow for the volume to be adjusted.
This causes me to miss part of the conversation, Matt can this be adressed or is there a setting I am missing?
The last several days I have begun to hear an intermittment buzzing noise when people that I am speaking with on a phone call on the Droid Bionic are talking. The noise does not appear to occur when I am speaking - only when the other party speaks and this has happened on several calls with several people from different phone numbers and it does not matter whether they call me or I call themI had thought that noise issues were relegated to the audio portion of Zumocast, etc. through headphones, etc. as reported via other discussions, but now this issue has come up. I have one day left to return my phone and this is one thing I can not deal with.
i don't want posts stating this has been reported before-the search enging sux on here.
as soon i turn off the wifi, the call quality goes back to normal. is this yet another bug? will it be fixed with an update? what's the story on this moto?
Every so often when playing a game or hearing my phone ring, my sound goes weird and it sounds tinny and high. It always self corrects usually on the next play of a turn or another call. I think this may have also happened on my OG Droid.
I have been having issues with my screen locking up after the screen times out and shuts off or when I turn the screen off. This dosent happen every time but at least once or twice a day. The power button will turn screen on and off but the screen is totally unresponsive to my inputs. I have tried factory resting it to no avail.
On top right side of phone, (droid bionic) the running system information is visible and constant. It is over everything else that is on screen. How do I hide it. It all of a sudden showed up one morning.
other smart phones (IPhone) have the ability to send a screen shot to your computer so you can easily manage/move widgets and shortcuts. How can you do it with a Bionic?
after the ics update my screen suffers from a flicker. trying to pin down the cause, i have noticed it is fine after i reboot my phone. but, once i go into my flipboard app, taptu app, or watch a video on Internet is when it starts acting up. i can play games just fine. i can view most webpages just fine. i can use all my other apps just fine. i've uninstalled, reinstalled these apps, i've pulled the battery, i've changed settings, i've cleared cache. i just can't figure it out. the phone ran just fine before the update. now, after the update is when i have problems. i ran into another person online that has the same issue so i know there is at least one other person in the world having simular issues. this forum is my last resort before calling verizon support and either getting a replacement or upgrading to a different phone.
