I've had my Defy for a little more than a year...but I'm "stranger in a strange land" here in the forum, mostly because I'm neither techie nor anything close to a power user. But I do not use any of the Motoblur junk...and don't even want it on the phone. The only time I'm aware of it is when I check the list of running apps and see how many of them are Motoblur related. I'd love to be able to delete them, if only to get rid of the power drain they represent. Yet I suspect that Motorola has them all pretty much "hard wired" into the phone. Or is there some sort of less obvious, less intuitive way to get rid of the Motoblur news, weather and other crap?
I thought I'd start a thread so that we'd have something else to discuss as well besides the Froyo upgrade. What do you think Motorola should do to improve Motoblur on the phone? Or if you don't use Motoblur, which home replacement do you use instead and why? I don't use MB. I use Go Launcher instead. I don't think MB is bad. It's just a matter of personal preference really, mainly because I prefer to have 5 icons in the dockbar and an drawer that scrolls horizontally page by page (how do you find what you want quickly vertically?). The other customisation options - 4x5 homescreens, 5x5 app drawer that can be rearranged, transitions and skins - are also great too.
I purchased motorola defy plus few days back and since that day i'm not able to create an account with "motoblur",I've an active data pack in my phone still no solution everytime i try to create one my phone says"An error Ocurred please try later",I'm currently in bangalore (India),my operator is vodafone.
I have an MB526 Defy+ UK retail version, branded by JCB.
It has system version 45.0.82.MB526.Retail.en.GB, Android version 2.3.4 If I go to UK support, I can see an updated version 45.0.125, Android version 2.3.5

However, on the phone, if I 'check for system updates', it reports the software is up to date.
Since I have an issue with the software, I'd like to update it to check for a fix. I could probably use the USB updater, but is there some reason why the phone won't do it itself ?
My Motorola Defy w/o blur is not connecting to internet via USB to my PC. What could I do ? LAN and Modem settings are OK. Then why it is showing error 692 as "MODEM hardware error". Pls show me a solutio
I had recently purchased my first Android device, a Moto Defy+. This is not a carrier locked phone.
I use my gmail contacts as the default address book and when i signed up for Moto blur account, it somehow made a backup of all my gmail contacts on motoblur. Now, i can see the same contact details twice for every address book entry. During the backup process, motoblur deleted the leading zeros from all phone numbers. Even though gmail is my default address book, the phone picks up motoblur stored info while making calls - due to which I am now unable to make long distance calls from my phone unless i manually go and edit/delete the phone numbers from the motoblur section on the address book. needless to say, this is very irritating as i have over a 1000 contacts.
How do i delete all my contacts from the motoblur section? i do not really use the motoblur account for anything and if deleting the motoblur account is a solution, i'll be happy to do that. however, i do not want to do a factory setting restore.
It seems every time a contact on my twitter account changes its profile picture, Motoblur simply do not show it anymore neither on the widget or the Motoblur app that the widget calls. In place of the precedent picture I then get the gray generic anonymous shadow. I'm not sure it is froyo related, but it sure started after the upgrade. I can imagine the issue coming from the Blur service on the servers and not from the phone itself.
I've had my DEFY for about three weeks now. Overall I've been very happy with the phone. The Social Networking app just stops updating at random. Rebooting the phone will get everything to update. But then a few hours later it will stop and I'll have to reboot the phone again.I understand that rebooting the phone every so often is a good thing to do. But, I don't want to reboot it several times a day just to update this app.
Everytime I try and add my LinkedIn account in MotoBlur, I get an error message "Error, An error has occured. Please try again." I can login just fine online. Anyone know what may be causing this?
Just want to know if there could be any other way in linking the contacts with my facebook account because there's no motoblur feature for defy here. Do i need to install a third party app to be able to link it?
My email was compromised and now I am drafting everything from that google mail account and moving to another. How can I change my motoblur login google email to another one?
Today I noticed my Defy screen was black, and it wasn't responding to power button presses, so I took the battery out and rebooted it. A few hours later it was black screen again, and I tried the same proceedure but watched it. Maybe 10 seconds after it finished booting, it rebooted and then gets stuck in a sequence of showing motorola logo and rebooting over and over. I've tried removing the battery again and it will boot once, then immediately reboot and get stuck in loop again.I have tried the following and the same result every time:boot w/o simboot w/o sdboot w/o sd or simboot with better signalI cannot do factory data reset as I do not have enough time before first reboot to get to it. Attempting to start any app before the first reboot just returns to the menu screen.
I attempted to do 'hard reset' as per these instructions: ttp://www.knowyourcell.com/motorola/motorola-defy/defy-uides/595986/how_to_hard_reset_the_motorola_defy.htmlHowever after motorola screen I get a warning icon with a droid similar to this image but without the menu. Attempting to tap anypart of the screen or press any button did not change this screen:ttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4132/5194579958_880780d9e4.jpgThe phone has been running mostly okay for the 6 months or so that I have owned it. I say mostly because I upgraded to Froyo 2 months ago, and it was behaving badly (lagging badly) until factory data reset a month ago.
Totally stock Defy, upgraded to 2.2 and on its 2nd ear speaker. While in the browser the phone froze compleatly, so after waiting a while I pulled the battery, and on restarting it went straight to a bootloader screen. Then when i connect to the PC it, just changes the last line to Transfer Mode OK.I have tried the Start button and Volume rocker switch, but this seems to do nothing. Please tell my "Life proof" phone isn't dead before my 2 year contract is up!? I have tried googling, but all the help I can find, seems to be for people who are rooting their Devices, I would just like to state that is not what I was, or am trying to do.
Well just wonder if there some Devs here to get any word on Motoblur/Social widget stuck. Currently there lots of tears in internets about SN-Widget and how bad/random its synching with Facebook, there also some workarounds but i would love to get an answer from any Officials. My workaround: was uninstalling the update for Social Networks app and after reboot its synched my FB stuff perfectly, but when Blur-updater(see task-manager) installed it again the widget stopped synching anything from FB.Its works also random with Twitter - actualy its shows you your status update but not the tweets you fallow.
My phone has multiple resets ad the direction of Motorola, and has been in for a circuit board replacement. Now the screen still freezes and the reception is hopeless.I am sure this handset is a lemon. It is still under warranty, 11 months old.
setting up auto-fetching applies to all email accounts. I swear on my 2.1 Spice XT300, the auto-retrieval was by email address (and also the smallest interval between fetches was 5 minutes, not 15 like on the Defy). I have never used 2.1 on the Defy; mine was original 2.2.1.
I updated to Froyo via Motorola website but it hasn't worked. My phone still shows firmware 2.1.1. Tried to update again via Motorola website but it now tells me that there are no updates for my phone.....I presume that it somehow detects that my phone previously downloaded froyo update.
My Defy is denied application on the market with no reason that I understand. Some apps are not visible from the phone, and are said "non compatible" from the market website. Sometime the website talks of country restriction while they should not be.
I have had my defy now for a few months, and I have been pretty happy with it (babyproof smartphone!)Unfortunately, its becoming more and more unreliable, and am having to reboot it regularly. This weekend is the worst. Here are some of the things it is doing:
all apps keep freezing and crashing (no fancy apps, mostly use it for twitter, facebook etc).phone keeps freezing and being unresponsible on the home screen keep getting an 'emergency calls only' notification, which then clears straight away when i go into notifications.mms photos - both sent and received take up to 5 days to be visible. until then they are just flagged as 'downloading'. I'm pretty sure it shouldn't take 5 days to download a 27kb file. After rebooting, I did have a gmail widget require a forced close immediately. I was never using that widget anyway, and couldn't see it, so I uninstalled it. Now on rebooting I have to force close Google Services Framework. I have decided that looks reasonably important and useful and have declined to uninstall that so far.
I have a my Defy & XT and as of 9:22 am the weather widget hasn't udated and I've turned the phone off and on etc and then I deleted my location and tried to readd it and it said something like.. location information cannot be found (not sure off hand).. I don't know what to do but it won't let me add any loactions but apps from the market work.
We are thinking of buying a Motorola Backflip. But we want to turn off motoblur because we don't want to waste our precious download limit on constant social networking updates. Plus it drains the battery. We haven't been able to Google up the answer to this, and the sales associates are of no help.Does anyone know if this can be done? If so, can you supply the steps? Is it complex?
just today i did a factory restore to my phone running the 2.3.4 software and after reboot, where i had to give my motoblur data, i first set up wifi, than put in my account and password and did log in, it took unusually long ont eh progress bar and once it came al msot to the end it said there are issues signing into motoblur and i should retry, tried that twice to no avail, the only option i had was to turn off the phone, once i turned it on it already skipped to the location consent, with allegedly being logged into my account, but it wont load my settings from motoblur (ie the launcher setup or the speed dials in the dialer). I havent tried with a different account, since i wanted to get my settings back?
I got a Motorola Atrix 4G from the states. I brought the phone to the middle east and tryed to set up the phone. But when i try to link up my moto blur account i get a message that says that "moto blur service is not available right now try latter" and i think that its due to my ip address.
According to the Atrix support page, to delete a Motoblur account I must contact my provider. My provider is AT&T and they told me they have no access to my Blur account and are therefore unable to delete it. So:
Did the CSR I reached have the wrong answer and should AT&T be able to delete my account, and if so to whom should I direct my inquiry? If not, how DO I delete the account? I already have been given the "create a new account" advice, which is obvious, but I don't care for having accounts of any kind lying around dormant. If Moto is forcing me to have an account to use this phone they should provide a way to delete it - after all it contains stuff like my e-mail information, ...
I was given a Motoblur as a gift I loved using it It was fine for 4 weeks Then, it just developed a weird problem - it keeps turning off and rebooting every 45 seconds It does this consistently
I've used different sim cards - I know this isn't the problem They said without a receipt I was stuffed - didn't matter that the phone was completely new (Sony Ericsson: if you have a new phone - they'll take the IMEI and will honour the warranty if a new phone)
I got a call back 5 min after the phone call They told me to update the software - the phone was due an update
I updated Yeeee ha! The phone lasted 1.5 minutes - and then started rebooting
