Motorola Defy :: WiFi Keeps Re-Asking For Password?
Aug 28, 2011
My WiFi connection keeps re-asking for my password even though what I have entered is 100% correct. It keeps coming back and saying its not correct.I have a WPA 63 character key that I enter and do it 4 digits at a time except the last which is 3 digits, all entered 100% correctly and in the right case, yet my Defy keeps saying incorrect. Do you know what is up with that? It works fine on my laptop with the exact same WPA key entered.

At home I have a wireless router and a modem. When accessing the internet via a netbook running Windows (XP and 7), I first connect to the router and then log-on to the ISP, which I've set up as a network connection with the relevant username and password.Despite a favourable tariff for data, 3G connection here is not great. So when at home I'd like to improve browsing speed by linking to the broadband/DSL. So far I can get it to connect to the router, but I haven't yet found a way to log on to the ISP, or even somewhere to put in the account details.I'd be very grateful if some kind soul could point me in the right direction in how to configure my phone, which currently appears to be smarter than I am.

I never have found a clear indication of the safety of using MotoBlur from a open public Wifi Hotspot.
That's an issue I stumble upon everytime I want to use a standalone application like Hotmail on my handset. I presume that the communication from my handset to Motorola servers are encrypted, but I have no documentation about it.
I wonder if my mail account is directed in a similar manner, from my handset to Motorola server when I send a SMTP message from an account registered within Blur.
How does it work. I would like to know. Is there any white paper from Motorola somewhere available to the consumer.

Ok so after having to replace the earpiece under warranty I thought would risk another outage to my Defy. It was bought sim-free and I use my work SIM in it from Vodafone. So ran through the upgrade, and it worked first time ... until wifi. Wifi does not connect or rather from what I can determine I cannot actually obtain an IP address. For it to actually connect to the hub I have to force the settings to toggle the "Enable Auto IP" setting and manually set the channel to the same as my hub. (not had to do that with any other phone ... ) by the way, this still does not give me a data connectionAlso tried setting a static IP address and related settings and that does not work either Did a factory reset as recommended on the other pages - no avail. My hub runs WPA/WPA2 and I have a variety of devices connecting to it, trouble free, including 2 other Android 2.2 phones (HTC Desire Z and LG Optimus One), Windows XP, Windows 7, PS3 etc etc ... oh and once I had a Defy running 2.1 Eclair connecting trouble free?

setting up auto-fetching applies to all email accounts. I swear on my 2.1 Spice XT300, the auto-retrieval was by email address (and also the smallest interval between fetches was 5 minutes, not 15 like on the Defy). I have never used 2.1 on the Defy; mine was original 2.2.1.

I updated to Froyo via Motorola website but it hasn't worked. My phone still shows firmware 2.1.1. Tried to update again via Motorola website but it now tells me that there are no updates for my phone.....I presume that it somehow detects that my phone previously downloaded froyo update.

My Defy is denied application on the market with no reason that I understand. Some apps are not visible from the phone, and are said "non compatible" from the market website. Sometime the website talks of country restriction while they should not be.

I have had my defy now for a few months, and I have been pretty happy with it (babyproof smartphone!)Unfortunately, its becoming more and more unreliable, and am having to reboot it regularly. This weekend is the worst. Here are some of the things it is doing:
all apps keep freezing and crashing (no fancy apps, mostly use it for twitter, facebook etc).phone keeps freezing and being unresponsible on the home screen keep getting an 'emergency calls only' notification, which then clears straight away when i go into notifications.mms photos - both sent and received take up to 5 days to be visible. until then they are just flagged as 'downloading'. I'm pretty sure it shouldn't take 5 days to download a 27kb file. After rebooting, I did have a gmail widget require a forced close immediately. I was never using that widget anyway, and couldn't see it, so I uninstalled it. Now on rebooting I have to force close Google Services Framework. I have decided that looks reasonably important and useful and have declined to uninstall that so far.

I was always using on other phones with Android 2.2 FroYo that 3G mobile hotspot feature, which was included right in the Android system under Wireless Networks settings. Now in Defy there is no option like that under settings in FroYo. Defy includes own app called 3G Mobile Hotspot, which should work like that option for creating mobile WiFi hotspots in other Android phones. But here is the problem. On my older phone with Android 2.2 I could create 3G WiFi hotspot wherever I needed and it worked. But now, with Defy, when I use that application 3G Mobile Hotspot, it writes me error when creating WiFi hotspot "Cannot set up data link, please contact your service provider" I suppose it is something with my carrier (Vodafone_CZ), but when I used 3G WiFi hotspots on older phones (which had that feature included right in Android settings menu) it worked without problems and I a used mobile phone for 3G internet sharing with my laptop. Now I remember, that I have deleted some DUN profile under APN Internet profiles, could it be that problem, that 3G Mobile Hotspot app is not working?how to create WiFi hotspot on my Defy for example with some other app?Or if not, how can I use Internet Tethering in Defy Mobile Networks menu via Bluetooth (my laptot has BT). I dont know, what should I set in my laptot to use Defy like BT 3G Internet provider and I dont know, if Internet Tetherig via BT is not charged at my carrier (I know, that the 3G WiFi hotspot feature was not extra charged..) so for that reason I would like to make it working on my Defy.
My ROM: original 34.179.2.MB525.Retail.en.CEE
Android 2.2.2

I have a Google Apps account where a password is required on the device. I'd like to see this work more like the Droid X where you set a timeout, say 30 minutes, and if you use the device within 30 minutes, you don't need to enter the password again.

that my Defy is downlading data only over 3G though I have the WLAN connected. It starts its download with WLAN, and after 30 seconds, when the screen is off, it starts or continues the download over 3G and is eating my Data Package.
If I keep the Screen ON, from the Display settings, it uses the WLAN, but as soon as the screen is off it uses the 3G.

My Defy+ only lasts for 2 days, even without actually using it (only standby and 2G network). The screen is always off. This is nowhere near the 384h as advertised. probably need to take it back to the shop but I wanted to ask if it can be fixed easily.

I just have three quick questions I hope you can direct me to links or previous posts on: How do you back up your defy phone completely ahead of upgrading the o.s. software? Where is the information/instructions/download for upgrading from Android 2.1 to 2.2? How do you root the Defy and what exactly does the process do and involve as well as solve? Stability Issues? Crashes? Software glitches and hangs?

I bought a car dock (TrailBlazer Advanced Pro Universal Car Charger and Holder [URL] for my Defy that goes into the cigarette lighter socket and the Defy sits in it and you can connect it to the power.Unfortunately the Defy doesn't charge when connected, and it often says to even unplug it! It makes no difference whether I have it connected or not because it eventually runs out of power and the battery is flat.Is there something I am doing wrong? I am also unsure how I did it but apparently there is a car dock mode for the Defy? I'm being a bit lazy and haven't read the manual on this but how exactly do you put it into car dock mode and will it charge when in this mode?
I am going to try and troubleshoot whether this is an issue with the Defy or Car Dock. I know it can't be the socket because I have a separate small 80w inverter and that will charge the Defy when connected to that with its main plug. Unfortunately I can't use the dock and the small inverter at the same time.I have also tried using both the small tip connector and the usb connector when plugging it into the Trailblazer holder/charger but it makes no difference it still runs out of ju ju. I think there has only been a couple of times out of ten or twenty attempts when I have managed to get it charging from the trailblazer - I'm not sure how I did it but that was after it had run out of juice and I still had no indication that it was charging or anything.

I want to know why there are no plans to update the DEFY from 2.2 to 2.3
Obviously the phone can handle it, and it will most likely be better then the buggy OS that 2.2 is already. Does anyone else agree that they should have their DEFY updated??
