Motorola Charm :: Using Calendar Without WiFi Connection?
Jun 1, 2011I just bought a Charm with Motoblur, and the phone works great. The only problem is that I can't use my calendar because it requires me to sync to gmail (or whatever) to use it, to sync a calendar from the internet or something. However, I do not have wifi connection on my phone, and do not wish to get it. I just want to use my calendar without having to connect to the internet in any way. Is there some way around this synchronization? Is there something I can download and move to my phone so I don't have to sync with anything via wifi?

Oct 23, 2011My XOOM returned from 4G upgrade refusing to search for WiFi once it has been allowed to connect 4G. I have experimented with many ways to improve this including changing from CDMA/LTE to CDMA only (just to test 3G connections), disabling the 'data enabled' setting, disabling WiFi too, then turning on WiFi both before and after blanking the screen, and trying all 3 options of when to change from 4G to WiFi (after screen blank, etc.). The only fix is a complete shutdown and cold boot for it to wake up and search for WiFi. The WiFi in question are the same I used before the 4G upgrade and nothing has changed but the XOOM hardware and presumably software. If it is restricted to WiFi only and I move from home to office to a public WiFi, it will happily switch back and forth UNTIL I coax it into a 4G connection. Then, it takes a cold reboot.

Sep 28, 2011Last night when I turned on my wifi at home, the wifi and phone signal bars appeared but were gray and I had no internet/data connection. I checked the wifi settings which indicated I was connected with good to excellent signal. Toggled the Wifi on and off several times, and turned phone on and off, which did not work. Went into wifi settings and told it to forget settings and reconnected, same result. When I turn off wifi, 3G appears and data connection is restored. Left the phone on in the media dock all night, and this morning when I turned on wifi, all was fine. What does gray signal bar mean?

I have AT&T as the provided but I know even though it is a T-Mobile phone it works on the AT&T network.However I do not have, nor do I want to pay for a data plan. In fact as of now I have a Sony Ericsson C905a from AT&T just for the reason of not having to have a data plan; I don't need it or want to pay the $$. But I am interested in the wi-fi features of the Charm.I started looking into the Charm's user guide and I want to know if anyone can tell me if it is possible and how to set up the phone so it ONLY uses wi-fi to connect to data? Can I block mobile data usage through configuration? I don't want 2 things to happen:Paying for a lot of pay-as-you-use data MB.having AT&T see so many data packets and automatically slap a data plan on my phone.

Apr 19, 2011after purchasing a charm with motoblur last week, i was able to set up my motoblur account through wi-fi, send and receive messages as tests to make sure the phone was working through providers at&t and t-mobile (because i had unlocked and inserted an existing british simcard on the network "3"). i opted to not enter the browser/marketplace due to the price of roaming abroad.after travelling back to the uk today, i was able to make a couple of calls and around twenty sms's with no problems whatsoever, but as i was not roaming abroad any more, i tried the browser, marketplace, maps and Internet. none of these worked due to the network state being disconnected, despite being connected to the provider "3" (found going through settings>status>network connection state: disconnected). thus when returning home, i hunted around the internet on the computer to find a way for browsing to return, just in case i'd by accident declined something earlier in the week. i came upon the "master reset / factory data reset" page on the website: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/49373/~/charm---master-reset-%2f-factory-data-reset
after following these instructions, the phone reset. ok. then, when going back through the welcome/getting started intro to the phone, there was still a failure of network connection, and any wi-fi connections with the correct password entered always ended in "wrong password entered," or it ignored the previous password and a vicious circle of correct password after correct password began.

Last weekend she asked me if i could update her software, and i did so from the Blackberry Desktop Software and updated to OS6. Everything was working fine until we found out that it only connects to the internet if i use data service, but i dont want to because we have wi-fi at home. When i turn data services and while roaming OFF, and put wi-fi preferred, and when i try to open a web page in the browser it pop ups a window saying "Data Services are disabled. Go to Mobile Network to enable".

Dec 29, 2015I was having Wifi issues on the 6P. Connected to home wifi but no internet. The thing is, the wifi would still work randomly. It's possible that it works most of the time but as soon as I go out somewhere and out of the home wifi range, it sometimes messes up when it tries to reconnect to the network.
And yes, I realize it may not be a phone issue but maybe the router (Asus N66U with Tomato firmware).edit - well, I spoke too soon and I guess it's not the static IP causing the wifi issues.It turns out it was a firewall app called AFWall

It remains connected to WiFi fine.Mail/Safari/App Store/Facebook/any internet based app cannot access the internet.No error screen is shown.The standard WiFi icon and the rotating 'in progress' wheel next to it.Sometimes I can restore the in app internet connection by turning WiFi off and then on again but not always.
So what is going on. I've not changed any setting recently to either my iPhone or router. Both have been working fine for months. My iPad and wife's iPhone are both fine also.

Jan 12, 2010I have nokia 5800. I am able to connect to my office wi-fi with this. And after connecting when I do Start Browsing, I am also able to browse sites successfully. But when I go to home screen -> menu -> internet -> facebook, and try to open it. It shows me "Connecting through AirTel" even though my wi-fi is still connected, this facebook is trying to connect to internet with my service provider internet. Can anybody please tell me how can I educate facebook application to use my wi-fi internet connection and not the service provider one?
