Lumia 950 :: Bing / Cortana Search Is Broken On Phone
Dec 30, 2015
when try to search for something as usual: one click on the search button, Cortana opens, then type something, use the arrow or the web search touch button; Cortana closes itself! I did two soft resets, (long pressing the power button, that's what it does right?) Same behavior. web search suggestions are working fine. whenever I click on one of them it closes itself. I think it just started today.
I have unlocked 950/dual-sim/usa/ build xx.29 / no firmware upgrade. When I open edge and do the search in the address line it works, opens bings for the search phrase.
When I press Bing search button which is on the right side of Windows button, it loads the IE desktop version of Bing instead of the Bing App. I tried with some setting chage in Region+Language and Location as per Microsoft Answer blog but all went in failed, how to bring back my Bing Search app
My 1520 now has the Bing search menu keep popping up. It has dine this now many many times and often freezes the phone on that display. I have had it do this without even touching the screen. Just reading an article and out if nowhere it pops up. The only way to resume is to turn the screen off and back on. Its getting annoying and only seemed to do this after the last update, not windows 8.1, just the last regular update. I also get the screen shaking up and down sometimes and have to turn the screen off then back on. The screen contents will start shaking violently up and down. I have done the soft reboot several times and gone into the Bing settings to turn off but it still does this. I should have never updated this phone. It worked brilliantly before it. What's next, hard reboot?
On 8.1, you had a music icon at the top right for Cortana which basically acted as a built in Shazam to identify music. Currently the only way I know you can access that is to hit the microphone icon with Cortana so she's "listening" for you. At that point, the music icon appears in the top right.
The problem is, when I'm in my car and I hear a song on the radio, hitting that microphone turns off the music because I'm connected to my car via bluetooth. Is there a way around this?
Just read on another page about the Lumia 920 having the option to hit the Bing search button, and then swipe to the right (Or left - can't remember), to get News articles. Guess this must be regional dependent (Or is it just on AT&T devices)?
Mic issue with the 1520 for those who don't know, certian 1520 have a issue wit the mic when on a phone call. it only works with bluetooth hands free, but the weird thing is the mic works on cortana and on the voice record, weird, I perfer to use my bluetooth but I wan a 100% working phone
Just updated system software to v.5.0.0.973 and bing the local searches and direction searchs no longer work. I have deleted and reinstalled bing several times with out any luck.
Yesterday late night i bought my 950...so in morning i was configuring my phone i realized that i don't have hey cortana option under the notebook's settings...also i found hey cortana app from store...but store says that app can not be installed because of company policies..
So I have this problem on my XL - cortana randomly turns on even without saying Hey Cortana . It's got to the point wjhere I have to turn the phone off in meetings because it keeps happening while other ppl are speaking!
I have a lumia 1320, I did the update to the denim version, I changed the region, the language and the keyboard, all for English (United States), and does not work Cortana.
Updated my 1520 to the latest TP. Full format post update, etc. Got everything up and running. Cortana. My goodness. It opened every few seconds. I got to the point that I hated using the phone at all because Cortana would just launch, interrupting anything I was doing. Almost went back to 8.1 until I remembered to check the screen sensitivity settings. Yep. Win10 sets it to high for some reason. Changed to normal and it's worked tremendously.
Go to settings and Extras. You will find an old 8.1 menu there. Change in "touch."I was about to throw this phone across the room. Now if they would let us disable the search button all together or require a ~3 second press and hold to launch Cortana. Until then, for the love of god set sensitivity to normal to keep Cortana at bay.
If I use Hey Cortana when the screen is locked it completely bypasses the PIN and iris scanner and leaves the phone unlocked after Cortana answers my query. Security flaw? I do have Cortana set for my voice only.
So I just got my lumia 1020 on thursday, and one thing I have noticed on my lumia 1020 is that my bing music app under the search does not work. Anytime I use it, all I get is the We can't connect to search right now, check your cellular data or Wifi connection. Please try again later.
I tried a soft reset, hard reset, took it to the AT&T store cause the windows phone rep said its hardware but when I got to the AT&T store they showed me on their 1020's in store and also their demo ones they use that the music app did the same thing.
Owner of lumia 1520. Sometimes in my pocket, sometimes while I'm working with it and sometimes when it's left on the desk, Cortana launches automatically and Touchscreen becomes totally unresponsive and multitasking sub menu appears. Sometimes screen contents start to rattle...
Considering upgrade from Windows 7.5 device (not Nokia) and looking at 820 or 920, but really like speed, integration and features of Bing Maps - looking at reviews/comments, removing the menu item for Bing Maps is putting me off the Nokia and pushing me towards the HTC!Why not have both available on the phone? You have the codee there so it does not affect the underlying platform. User choice is and should be king on these devices, so why remove the Bing Maps option? This must be a simple fix for you to do.... so make yourself another customer, and a load of people out there happier by adding the menu item back in ---- you don't have to have it pinned to the start menu by default, just available for those of us who want to use it instead of -- or as well as -- Nokia Maps.
For some reason all of a sudden, my WP, Bing Maps, Facebook, has been showing my urrently location in Ohio, when I am in So Cal. However, when using Nokia Maps, it displays my location correctly.I have rebooted my phone, turned on and off location, but it still located me incorrectly. This is day 2 of this issue.
I was wondering if any of you had this issue. I have a LUmia 1520.3 and everything works perfectly, except that if I am listening to music and I get a txt message. If that happens after the message is read and I return to the music the phone starts to play thru the speakers and the headphones.at the same time. There is a significant reduction in the volume thru the headphones but it still plays. I have tried different headphones and the problem persist over the podcast app as well.
New to the whole Windows phone thing. I'm very familiar with the desktop version of Windows 10, and I have my desktop and laptop to only do local searches on the built in start menu. I can't seem to figure out how to disable it on the 950. I don't have a lot of data to spare per month....
Trying to call using my Lumia 800 today and I can't hear or be heard by anyone I call. Loudspeaker works, and so do my headphones. But my mic doesnt work at all. It's pretty much brand new (my dad used it for a few days but didnt like the QWERTY keyboard for texting) and i remember getting a phone call a day or two ago and it was fine.Anyone have any tips or tricks i can try before i send it off for a repair?I'll be phoneless until its fixed because non of my spare phones take micro sims.. and my past experience with sending phones for repairs involved long waits to get them back..
i have a lumia 820 that i purchased 2 days ago. today, i opened the case to see where the microsd card would go and then put the back piece back on the phone.tonight, i wanted to watch a Internet video and when i pushed up on the volume button, it wouldn't go up, only down. the usual click was gone too. i opened the case to see if something got stuck and the little copper thingee is missing for the volume up button. i can a little bit of it sticking out from where it used to be?
I've had my lumia 800 for a year now and loved it, but unfortunately I dropped it on the corner closest to the sim card slot, and it appears that the clip which stops the sim card holder from springing up has been damaged so it won't stay in place anymore and pops up. This obviously means that the phone doesnt detect the sim and turns off.
