View 1 Replies View RelatedHitting the power button does not turn the display on. Actually nothing turns the display on. This began happening occasionally, for a few seconds at a time. Then it became a few minutes at a time. Now it is permanent.
What's truly odd is that the phone seems to be completely working otherwise. It rings, alarms go off, indicator lights flash. It connects to my car over bluetooth and if I plug in headphones and hit the play headphones' action button, music starts. If I hold the power button down, every 5s I get a little haptic feedback, and it appears to reboot if I hold power and volume up (or down, I can't recall), so I know the buttons are working.
I even have a suspicion that touchscreen digitizer is working because I think I've dismissed a few notifications by double-tapping (I'm on Lollipop). Also, I swear I have seen very fleeting, very dim views of the unlock screen a few times.
I should also add that I took advantage of Google's recent replacement policy lenience - this is a refurb I've had for a month or two.
I'm contemplating replacing the screen/digitizer on the theory that this is a broken screen. It feels like the backlight is broken. But I'd rather not spend the $$$ and time if the problem is deeper than that.
It's my boyfriend's iPhone & we've dropped it plenty of times in the past going on 6 months now, so you can imagine it has plenty of cracks & the back had come off to where we taped it back on. Recently - a few days to a week ago I dropped it & it seemed fine until I tried taking a picture of our cats and the camera opened to a black screen. Everything else works fine except the speaker when we call out we have to put it on speaker for someone to hear us - already tried cleaning out all the ports. I don't want him to go to the iPhone store and have them complain about all the issues wrong with the phone and go extreme bill on him either. Yes I have tried restarting his phone, I just don't want to completely reboot it when it's under his mom's account & her iCloud. & The front facing camera works.

I haven't seen anyone having this issue out of the numerous ones I've seen on this site. My iPhone 4's screen was sometimes going black. Hitting the home or power button wouldn't turn it back on. I'd have to hold down the home and power buttons to do a hard reboot to get it back up.
I returned my phone yesterday to get replaced because I was also having the No SIM Card Installed error. My new iPhone 4 is having the same black screen issue occasionally, though.

for a couple of weeks now the connection on my iPhone 5 has been bad when trying to charge. It would constantly connect and then disconnect straight away until you got it into a very still position where the cable or the phone would not be touched. Now the phone has stopped charging altogether. I have checked the charging port to see if there is any lint but there is none in there. The strange thing is that if you turn the phone off, and then plug the cable into the phone it recognize it and then will turn on.I have got a genius bar appointment in the next couple of days but will have to go without a phone until then, and it is also out of warranty so I assume apple will try to make me pay for it if it needs fixing. A couple days ago, this happened, but it did not work after many force restarts. It has been acting up the past few days, randomly turning itself off, and I am trying to get it to turn back on. Last week I restored my iphone 5 and I also updated it, it worked normally but the only problem was that battery was dying pretty fast. After charging it I turned it off and after a day when I tried to turn it on again it just didn't want to do that. I thought that battery died, I tried to charge it but there was no signs of charging, I tried turning it on, even pressed home button and power button but nothing was appearing, it was completely dead. Earlier I took it to this store and tried to change the charger and also to check if it was the battery but even after that phone stayed dead. I don't know what could be the problem. I tried everything. I can't turn it on, power-home button is not working obviously, when I try to connect it to itunes it doesn't recognize it at all (like it is not even connected), I tried changing usb and battery and still nothing.
