IPhone :: What Is App For Mail Alert In Task Bar
Aug 6, 2010
Getting confused with what works and doesn't ie notifier etc. I've got intelliscreen installed at the moment and it's causing problems with other apps, so just want something to show me I have mail in the task bar without opening the phone.

I have been having a lot of issues with my phone saying it is 98%, 99%, 100% busy with the Task manager alert and it is clearly running slow, but never seem to find the culprit app/program. I have the settings within Task Manager set so I can see the system/core Apps. In generalthe Email Engine (synced with my company outlook web exchange service),Motorola services & Android System tend to be the top 3 apps running. Occasionally, Yahoo mail will be in the mix as well. The highest I've ever seen a single app (email engine) is 25% and the remaining ones are lower. In general, the apps never add up to 100%. I end the things that are using 0% of the CPU, but a few megabytes of RAM thinking that will free up resources and this seems to work, but frequently I find I need to reset the phone.
For context, I am a former BB Bold user who loved how quickly and seamlessly my email and calendar worked w/ the enterprise exchange server at work. Without my calendar synced I won't know how to function and the Droid XPRT has really helped because my work and home (google) calendars now all show up in the same place. When this is happening I find I am on the run, reading/writing email on the email engine via corporate sync.

First time I've gotten this alert. Not rooted. Was in dock all night.Pulled it out of dock and within moments I got an alert I've not seen before, in the status bar.I went to the task manager to see what it was all about and the OS was using 54% of the CPU.Moments later it jumped to 80+ percent. It kept moving between 50-ish and 80+ from moment to moment.I ended up shutting the phone off and restarting it.After doing that, no more alerts, but the first time I checked the OS following the restart, it was at 27%.Basically, it's now using a minimum of 16% and sometimes more than 25%, but never more than roughly 30%.IS THAT NORMAL?oh, and as a test, I put it back in the dock for a moment or two, took it out, and no "high CPU usage" alerts.

I have upgraded my defy yesterday morning and then it hang 3-4 times. So I did factory reset yesterday night. But now also problem remains it hangs some time, the new upgrade has Task Manager, but it keeps showing CPU: 100% alert. I wonder if only my maps and browser is open, why does it show the sign? Now also while I am typing this from mobile, it is giving same alert with only browser running. Isn't it made for multi-tasking? And also (problem not of topic) my market's page doesn't upgrade itself. It keeps running on old format.

Got my Razr updated to ICS today!! It now runs on android version 4.0.4 The graphics seem to have got an adrenalin boost... :) I wanted to get some more clarity on the following:as the task manager app been done away with? In the earlier version (2.3.6) there used to be an app called task manager. Here you could opt to close applications automatically once you move away from them. I presume it was to ensure optimisation of battery usage. In the new version the only way to accomplish the same seems to bring up the list of running apps - by long pressing the home key - and then swiping off the app - which you dont want running in the background - from the screen. Wouldnt the automatic closure of apps be a better option? Is there any way to get back the automatic closure feature in the current version?
In the previous version one could personalise the notification ring tone for the arrival of mails in the corporate mail inbox. This feature seems absent in the current version. I wanted to know if it still can be done? A distinct ring tone for mail arrivals is a good nice-to-have feature. Thirdly, i observed that the battery consumption seems to have increased post the ICS install. Is it just me or have others also noticed the same?

Can anyone tell me if the XpressMusic 5800 should have an audible alert say every minute or so to let me know I have a voice mail message, I know there is one when the message first arrives? Also the same for text messages, I know there is a flashing button, but I was hoping for an audible alert, not just for when it first arrives?

I have several email folders on my blackberry. When I recieve an email it only shows up on the "messages" folder. My previous BB would show the new mail indicator in both "Messages" folder and the specific email folder it belonged in. If I go to the specific folder, the email is inside, it just will not alert me to this folder.Hope this makes sense.Currently I have 4 specific email folders, a text folder, and a messages folder.
How can I fix this? I have an 8310 that was just replaced by another 8310 thru insurance coverage.

Since using ICS on my RazrMaxx When checking email it takes forever (ok 4-8 minutes) to connect and check the mail. It is a gmail based email set up under messaging. Battery Life has dropped dramatically. No universal volume controls for messaging and calls (For example if I want to adjust my phone ringtone to be very soft by using the rocker switch on the side it now only controls just the phone ringer. Messaging would still be at the volume you have the settings at. Previously the rocker switch controlled all volume.)

I recently downlaoded a bunch of ringtones off of the internet, and I also recently added another email account to my tour. I Assigned different alert tones to the 2 email addresses, sms messages, bbm messages, and facebook alerts. I have found that when I get a message, and the assigned alert tone is activated, as soon as that tone turns off anoter different alert is then activated. I cannot figure out why or how to prevent this from happening.

This is only the second time this has happened since I got the phone a few weeks back.I have all of my messages set to different specific ringtones. My SMS to one, my MMS to one, my email to one etc. So tonight I rcvd an email and instead of playing the tone it always plays that it is set for (one of the generic preloaded notifier tones)... it played my SMS tone (which is an actual song tone) to alert me to my email.
And NO I didnt recieve a new SMS at the same time. That folder is empty and the only red star alert was on my email envelope. Like I said this is very, very few and far between but why would this happen??I went over every one of my sound/alert settings and they are all the way they should be set for my liking.

I don't know if this is using the battery or what.. but even apps which don't support multi-tasking yet, still show up in the multitask menu. I know how to close them from there.. but I forget that some of those apps would still be open (or whatever they would be).
If an app's icon is still in the multitask menu.. does that mean that it is using more battery?? I don't completely understand how that works.

Am I alone ( not in life ) but in the frustration I have not being able to close all! open applications in the multi tasking bar in one go? I'm not a developer but would assume being able to close all open/idol applications in the task bar would be common sense? Why oh why do you have to close each indivdual one? Or am I just being stupid (quite possible) I mean is there a way to do so ?
I can understand it doesn't really matter Unless possibly you have a safari page open with eg BBC sport page which consistenlty refreshes & may use you data usage (I'm not sure that's even the case & may only refresh when you re-open). But just WHY do you have to close them individually...? Why not have the option to close individually or all?

So I've installed 4.0. So far ok. I miss my dedicated iPhone controls invoked by the home button, and the new iPod icons down there look very 2001, but whatever. What I don't really get is the subdock. (ooh...subdock...did I just coin a new word?)
I realize the apps aren't running. I realize they're just hanging out. But why does the OS keep adding more icons? Is it supposed to be some sort of shortcut bar? How/why am I supposed to interact with the subdock icons in a way that's any different or more meaningful than interacting with the icons on the home screen? What's the point of being able to X out an app from the subdock if the app isn't running anyway?
If I want to listen to Pandora and surf Safari and the OS supports that, why does it matter to me if I can interact with the app's icon(s)? Am I supposed to be cleaning house in the subdock and X-ing off apps I'm no longer using? It's a bit vague. If it's a metaphor for a task manager, it's a pretty dumb one. A task manager shows you every currently running app, not some ever expanding list of zombie apps that aren't running. The subdock feels more like a browser history than anything else.
As of right now, I have 15 icons sitting in the subdock and I have no idea why they're there or what to do with them, or if they'll go away eventually. I sure as heck have no interest in manually tapping closed 15 apps for no reason.

I have my application supporting the background modes (GPS) , and I can see that location updates are printed regularly in log. I have a NSTimer running which will send the location updates to my server every 1 hr. It is strange that the timer is working for many hours and suddenly it got stopped. I have two questions in my mind which I keep on asking me ,even-though I have read some apple documents. 1 - Is it possible to run a task infinitely either in background / foreground using timers ? if the timers aren't the option , what API I can use to run task infinitely . 2 - If the user have an option to disable Location Services for my app, I am gone . I don't want the user to disable the Location service for my particular app.

Currently when syncing Outlook Tasks via iCloud to the phone the tasks locate in Reminders. The synced tasks lose their native Outlook sort (in my case by Due Date) and end up sorted in some utterly unusable order. Other than periodically re-invoking iCloud syncing between Outlook and the phone to check and see if this condition has been improved by Apple, is there some central Apple location that advises of the specifics to software updates on either the phone or the cloud?

Since they don't close are all the apps in your pages now creating a lonnnnnnnnng filmstrip in the task switcher?
edit: I think I'd rather have them suspend-in-place so to speak and instead set the filmstrip to learn and 'save' the '10-most-used-apps' or something like.

My iphone mail app regularly requires restart to get mail flowing. That is it is running (doesn't crash) but will at time just stop getting email updates. I then have to force close the mail app (i.e. kill it) and then restart it. After restarting it the mail flows again.
Notes:
a) I do connect to Gmail for my mail - I'm using the IMAP facility for gmail currently (i.e. not the "Exchange" method)
b) I do also have the Google "Gmail" app running on my device too
c) on iPhone 3GS, latest version of IOS

When I'm out and about, I pick up my mail on my iPad and/or on my iPhone. I HATE having to sift through the duplicates. I know I can delete the emails from the server as they are being downloaded, and that would solve the problem between the iDevices. But I still want a copy of them downloaded into Outlook on my desktop for future reference, so deleting them from the server before Outlook gets ahold of them does not seem like a good idea.I currently have a POP3 account, but I could move onto an Exchange Server or into iCloud or something else if that would solve the problem.
