i recently upgraded my 3gs to ios 5.1, and now everything through headphones sounds really distorted, i've found loads of answers saying check your itunes files and such, but it's not just my music, i tried Internet and games through my headphones, and they all sound the same, they're all really badly distorted.

I've noticed a small crack on the very top left of my 3GS around the metallic frame that has coincided with a problem with the audio when adding headphones.
I suppose I'm trying to diagnose whether the impact of this crack could have damaged in some way the audio jack to cause audio problems when fully inserting the headphones. If I insert the headphones 1/2 way the audio is as new, but obviously as they're not fully inserted makes it tricky to listen without having to support the jack to provide the connection.
I've tried fully inserting a similar jack linked to my stereo, however, and the audio is as new!?!? I've also tried the headphones out of another iPod to see whether that is causing a problem as well as attempting to clean the jack and blow any dust out but to no avail.

My music wont play, you cant hear the keyboard noise or the lock noise, and when someone calls i cant hear what they are saying unless I put them on speaker or put headphones in. I have a problem with my Iphone. Today, the sound stopped working. I listened to music on headphones, got out of the headphone connector, clicked on the play.But the sound from the speakers is not heard. And in the player, the band lost control of sound. Now, through the headphones music, movies, games heard, and there is noheadphone jack.
When click on the home button twice and to leaf through the volume control slider and there disappeared. When I call the sound from the speakers is when typing flicks too.Once the sound back when I started the film but I took the headphones from the iPhone and after that the sound does not appear, only on the headphones and during the call from the speakers.

My iPhone 4s will not play sound unless the headphones are plugged in. I can't hear anything at all without the headphones, not even Siri. I've tried cleaning out the headphone jack, updating my software, closing all open apps, restarting my phone, and plugging the headphones in and out repeatedly, but nothing is working.

- Internet/other sounds do not work

My iPhone 4 has developed a problem - I get no sound at all, not through the speakers, or by plugging in the headphones.Â
No app sounds, no key sounds, no phone call sounds - nothing! Â
I've tried cleaning all the fluff out of the headphone jack and the dock connector, I've also tried a full restore.Â
One other odd thing that happens is that if I open the Music app, it has now started cycling forward through the track listing by itself.

But on a good headphone (i use the beyerdynamic DTX 101 IE and tried others) heights quality is sub-par. Now i am wondering, did Sony use bad hardware here or bad software? Usually they work very well, I can listen to music and also make calls with them, but once in a while I will encounter a problem, when I answer a call, it will be completely mute. If I turn the headphone off, it will still be off. Even if I hang up the call, then my phone will now be completely mute (I can't even listen to music anymore). If I press the speakerphone button, I will then hear through my headphone, but still cant talk through headphone mic.
I thought the call screen is supposed to give you options (headset, or headphones) but I think only saw it once, only thing the button does now is just switch the speakerphone and off the speakerphone.
Experiencing static or hissing sound over speakerphone and headphones? This is improved by turning Audio Effects OFF, but not eliminated. I also went to the Verizon store and tried out a display Razr M and it had the same problem. This is very noticeable over headphones when listening in a quiet room. The behavior is independent of audio source, headphone type and speaker vs. headphone jack.
