IPhone :: IP4 UK Apple Officially Unlocked Device VS Unlock Device
Jun 22, 2010
I have missed the 24th preorder date and I was wondering if by any chance even 1 in million manage to get on hold of a payg iphone 4 (uk) from a carrier like orange, 3 etc. Is there a difference having an officially unlocked iphone from apple vs an ultrasn0w etc. unlock device?? (other than any ethical/moral issues ). Any specific stuff that I will not be able to perform with such an unlock?, any downsides like slowdowns (if itís a 24/7 background running service etc) ?
I know that O2 official unlock iphones for $15, but I havenít found any certain info on the other carriers. (note: the phone will not be used to UK at all, so some proposed actions from carriers like: ďuse the phone for 3 months with the carrier and then ask for an unlockĒ will not work in my case.)
I bought a second hand Iphone 3gs which is working fine on other carrier (not AT&T) . So I know its not locked, it also came with Cydia installed so I know its jailbroken. But in Cydia I don't see any of the unlock Packages or Sources that are supposed to be used to unlock the iphone. Does that mean its officially unlocked? Right now its on 3.1 (7C144) and modem firmware 05.11.07.
My Apple Mobile Device Usb Driver Does'nt Show up in my Device Manager. But when i go Control panel>> Admin Tools>> Services its there but when i go Start>>Run type in devmgmt.msc an the device manager comes up an under the heading Universal Control Bus Contoller the Apple mobile device usb driver is suppoed to appear but it doesnt all my other usb attached devices do
Right, I shall soon be selling my 3GS to buy a certain other Apple branded phone. Before I do so, I want to know if O2 will officially unlock my iPhone 3GS, and for how much? I got it almost a year ago on pay as you go. I did try Googling and searching the forum, BTW, but I found a lot of conflicting information and a lot more results that were simply irrelevant.
I would like to unlock my iphone 4 but I don't have the original sim it was locked to nor I know the carrier. I bought it in the UK.
how I can officially unlock my iphone?
I am prepared to pay but I don't really trust what comes up on the Internet so does anyone know any trustworthy and official online unlocker service I could contact? Or any other way to have it unlocked?
as many people on this board should know; in other countries, namely European ones, they have much more consumer friendly laws/practices regarding unlocking phones. in most of them they are required to unlock your iPhone for free after they recoup the subsidy or at the very least after your contract is up. the specific laws by country .when they do this they take your IMEI number from your specific iphone, contact apple in some way, and apple plugs your IMEI into the itunes servers, and the next time you plug your iphone into itunes while you have an internet connection it unlocks your iphone permanently forever (so long as your IMEI number stays on file i suppose).in America we have no laws regarding locking/unlocking phones, aside from the dmca amendment (clarification) from November 2006 that expires in three years that says Unlocking your phone yourself is legal (was it renewed?).
In practice in the usa every phone i cant think of either has an unlock code that you can input into the device at any time to unlock it, or the cell company will unlock it for you at the end of your contract or sometimes if you are traveling internationally. of course, the iPhone is the ONE PHONE that at&t refuses to unlock after the contract, unlike its other phones. when the iphone first came out they said they would but a day later their spokesperson had to publicly state he was wrong and that they would NOT unlock iphones under ANY circumstance and that has been the case ever since. even the phones you can buy without a contract are locked to at&t.***my question is this: in some countries you can pay and have your iphone unlocked at any time. if i take my American iphone to Europe can i pay to have my phone "officially" unlocked? will they refuse to do it unless i am on their European network? will apple reject my IMEI because they know its activated to USA at&t and purchased in America with an at&t contract? it seems like even the newest jailbreak and unlock (blackra1n, blacksn0w) are buggy, so i donít want to do it. all i really care about is being able to use foreign sim cards and not getting but traped by having to use at&t's overpriced international plan. the international plan DOES NOT include data roaming (or does it not include data at all?), and your email updates automatically. i know you can turn off data roaming but there have been reports of the switch magically turning itself on. even if you accidently slide it on for a second and you switch it off if your iphone dls ONE MEGABYTE of data during that time it could cost 27 dollars!!!
also, this horrific nightmare scenario could happen. Iím not sure if at&t or apple or the gsm carrier in Bermuda fixed this, and i know all you have to do is explain what happened to at&t in the above case and they will zero out your bill but its still a monumental headache. also there have been hazy reports of this happening to other people in other countries. I am a big nerd and very tech savy and i LOVE cellphones, i previously had an enV with hacked free internet and free navigation. i consider the inability to "officially" unlock American iphones to be its biggest drawback, and a BIG one at that. after the contract they should have to offer you an unlock, not doing so creates tech waste. forcing people to get expensive international plans that donít even include data, a basic function of the iphone, is VERY greedy of at&t.
Need some help here please. I have an unlocked/jailbroken Iphone 2G that I've been using basically as an Ipod. I did a reset via the Iphone to erase everything off of it and now it is stuck on a black screen with a pineapple. Itunes does not recognize the phone.
It's sure that you can't jailbreak an IPhone to work on Sprint or Verizon. I do have an IPod touch and the Samsung Instinct for sprint, but it would be really nice if I could just have them all in one.
Wouldn't it be something nice if you can turn your device on Without having it in your hand? You could turn it on from your computer, or if you have a iPod turn your phone, laptop and desktop on with it. Or what if you lost it, and someone picks it up and turns it off (iPod or iPhone) and the only way iCloud could find it is if its connected to the internet but it's not on.Maybe i have a bad idea, but i thought about it after losing my iPhone but not my iPod. i Would rather lose an iPod
How do i change my original Apple ID on my mobile device? I forgot my password to that account and therefore have been looked out of iTunes and unable to update any Apps and or information on my iPhone 4S. I get a popup every 10 minutes while using my device asking for my password to my original Apple ID.
I definitely have issues with the reception when I touch the phone, but seems some people are ok. As we are all running the same software I think there is a production problem on some phones. How about Apple release an app you download if you think you have a problem. The app checks the reception when you are touching and not touching it, and if it determines there is a problem with your phone it automatically orders you a replacement. It could also check your GPS and immediately send an Apple courier to your location but that is maybe going to far.
I jailbroke Iphone 3g 3.1.3 with spritjb when I start mywi it tries to install the apple mobile device ethernet on my laptop but gives error (An error occurred during the installation of the device fatal error during installation) Cannot install this hardware.
I have COMPLETELY uninstalled ALL APPLE SOFTWARE from my windows xp SP3 laptop. Then reinstalled with the latest version of itunes today. Still same error.
