IPhone :: How To Figure Out Phone Is Unlocked Officially
Jun 12, 2010
I bought a second hand Iphone 3gs which is working fine on other carrier (not AT&T) . So I know its not locked, it also came with Cydia installed so I know its jailbroken. But in Cydia I don't see any of the unlock Packages or Sources that are supposed to be used to unlock the iphone. Does that mean its officially unlocked? Right now its on 3.1 (7C144) and modem firmware 05.11.07.
I will be going overseas soon to Asia and a friend over there is requesting we get him an iPhone 3Gs and he will pay us back when there. Now, my friend over here, his sister just received an iPhone 3GS. She does not want it. It was a gift from an admirer and won't take it back. They are now going to just sell it and take the money. So my current situation is this, I currently have the iPhone box, sealed at my house. The box displays IMEI and some other information stuff. What I don't know is if the phone was bought from a carrier like Rogers/Fido or from a reseller store or something. The friend overseas would like the phone to be brand new and sealed. Also he would like the phone unlocked so he can use it.Problem, is there a way to find out through IMEI or somewhere on box to figure out if the phone was bought from a carrier? I've never bought an iPhone from Rogers/Fido so don't know if there'd be a logo or something somwhere on box. As of now there are no indications somewhere saying it is from a carrier. My friend over here also thinks it was not bought at a carrier. We can't really ask the original guy who bought it because of whatever issues too.So yeah, if anyone knows if its really easy to figure this out or something, please let me know.
I have missed the 24th preorder date and I was wondering if by any chance even 1 in million manage to get on hold of a payg iphone 4 (uk) from a carrier like orange, 3 etc. Is there a difference having an officially unlocked iphone from apple vs an ultrasn0w etc. unlock device?? (other than any ethical/moral issues ). Any specific stuff that I will not be able to perform with such an unlock?, any downsides like slowdowns (if it’s a 24/7 background running service etc) ?
I know that O2 official unlock iphones for $15, but I haven’t found any certain info on the other carriers. (note: the phone will not be used to UK at all, so some proposed actions from carriers like: “use the phone for 3 months with the carrier and then ask for an unlock” will not work in my case.)
So, I just bought a JB'en iphone 3g tonight.Went ahead and unlocked it using ultrasn0w.Connected it to my mac/itunes, and it asks "an iphone has been previously synced with this computer. setup as a new iphone -or- restore the backup of ***"So, since I had purchased apps using my *** phone (actually was an ipod touch that i got rid of), I'm thinking that I should restore the backup so that I can get my paid apps back for free.
Questions: -will restoring this backup to the new unlocked phone restore it to its original locked state (i.e. will i have to re-jailbreak/unlock)? or will it simply restore preferences, etc...? -otherwise, if i call this phone a new name, is there a way to transfer my purchased apps to the new phone's account?
In November i purchased Nokia Lumia 510 in India, and i got Windows Phone 7.8 operating system in it. I would like to know Windows Phone 8 version is released in India, and if it is already released then my Nokia Lumia 510 is officially compatible to upgrate to Windows Phone 8?
Right, I shall soon be selling my 3GS to buy a certain other Apple branded phone. Before I do so, I want to know if O2 will officially unlock my iPhone 3GS, and for how much? I got it almost a year ago on pay as you go. I did try Googling and searching the forum, BTW, but I found a lot of conflicting information and a lot more results that were simply irrelevant.
I would like to unlock my iphone 4 but I don't have the original sim it was locked to nor I know the carrier. I bought it in the UK.
how I can officially unlock my iphone?
I am prepared to pay but I don't really trust what comes up on the Internet so does anyone know any trustworthy and official online unlocker service I could contact? Or any other way to have it unlocked?
as many people on this board should know; in other countries, namely European ones, they have much more consumer friendly laws/practices regarding unlocking phones. in most of them they are required to unlock your iPhone for free after they recoup the subsidy or at the very least after your contract is up. the specific laws by country .when they do this they take your IMEI number from your specific iphone, contact apple in some way, and apple plugs your IMEI into the itunes servers, and the next time you plug your iphone into itunes while you have an internet connection it unlocks your iphone permanently forever (so long as your IMEI number stays on file i suppose).in America we have no laws regarding locking/unlocking phones, aside from the dmca amendment (clarification) from November 2006 that expires in three years that says Unlocking your phone yourself is legal (was it renewed?).
In practice in the usa every phone i cant think of either has an unlock code that you can input into the device at any time to unlock it, or the cell company will unlock it for you at the end of your contract or sometimes if you are traveling internationally. of course, the iPhone is the ONE PHONE that at&t refuses to unlock after the contract, unlike its other phones. when the iphone first came out they said they would but a day later their spokesperson had to publicly state he was wrong and that they would NOT unlock iphones under ANY circumstance and that has been the case ever since. even the phones you can buy without a contract are locked to at&t.***my question is this: in some countries you can pay and have your iphone unlocked at any time. if i take my American iphone to Europe can i pay to have my phone "officially" unlocked? will they refuse to do it unless i am on their European network? will apple reject my IMEI because they know its activated to USA at&t and purchased in America with an at&t contract? it seems like even the newest jailbreak and unlock (blackra1n, blacksn0w) are buggy, so i don’t want to do it. all i really care about is being able to use foreign sim cards and not getting but traped by having to use at&t's overpriced international plan. the international plan DOES NOT include data roaming (or does it not include data at all?), and your email updates automatically. i know you can turn off data roaming but there have been reports of the switch magically turning itself on. even if you accidently slide it on for a second and you switch it off if your iphone dls ONE MEGABYTE of data during that time it could cost 27 dollars!!!
also, this horrific nightmare scenario could happen. I’m not sure if at&t or apple or the gsm carrier in Bermuda fixed this, and i know all you have to do is explain what happened to at&t in the above case and they will zero out your bill but its still a monumental headache. also there have been hazy reports of this happening to other people in other countries. I am a big nerd and very tech savy and i LOVE cellphones, i previously had an enV with hacked free internet and free navigation. i consider the inability to "officially" unlock American iphones to be its biggest drawback, and a BIG one at that. after the contract they should have to offer you an unlock, not doing so creates tech waste. forcing people to get expensive international plans that don’t even include data, a basic function of the iphone, is VERY greedy of at&t.
In order to change my provider, i asked to Bouygues France, to unlock my phone (not jailbreak)I respected the process and obtained the apple right message in Itunes, it was correctly unlocked. I tested another SIM card, it was ok.All was ok since my iphone powered down. Then, i cannot launch the downloaded applications, i can only launch the integrated ones.I tried some tricks like :- reset iphone- uninstall/reinstall app- app update- authorize pc on tunes My last backup is very old. Should i restore it? If I restore, will the phone go back to the "locked" state?Any other trick ? Someone encountered the same issue?I'm very disappointed with this issue, i thought that unlocking an iphone was really without risk
I would really like to officially unlock my iPhone 4. My name is Roman, i bought this phone on eBay , but I'm not the resident of USA, so I can't use it with local operators.
So now that Motorola has announced its plan of not upgrading this phone. What are the choices for the customers who have this phone and are having problems with it? The least Motorola should do, is to issue a credit and let the consumer to upgrade to a phone no matter which brand is it.Also to provide the necessary drivers and software to the developer community - (open up the phone)So other developers/ Hobbyist can deliver - what you said you cannot.Owners of Atrix, Electrify and Photon 4G, are not coming back, because Motorola cannot be trusted. Owners of these devices including myself are not coming back to buy ANY Motorola devices.
Look around on the various forums and websites alike, People are piss, after having the Firmware under development" for almost 9 months a week before release Motorola change their mind and customers do not take that lightly.
Not sure if this will even work, but i have a pre paid at&t simcard on my post paid account, (its a go phone but it was activated under my post paid account) i unlocked my 3G and put my sim card in it and its not showing any service, can i even use this sim card? is there something i'm doing wrong? i did a network reset and a power cycle and still nothing.
My phone was fried in a power surge at the hotel in Paris. It turns on but I cannot unlock it or use it. I am trying to get my vacation pictures off it from Itunes but it keeps telling me to unlock it which I cannot possible do. Is there a way to get my phone unlocked and pictures off. I realize the phone will never work again.
My mini pro came with android 2.3.4 installed, but I'm reading here about Android 4.x being available. But onboard software updater says my phone is up to date.Where is the truth?
I just bought a new Xperia X10i the other day because my old nokia crashed and died. I've never had an android phone or iPhone before so I'm having trouble figuring things out. I couldn't export all my contacts onto my sim card from my old phone because it died, so I've been trying to add them manually. My phonebook is filled with all my contacts from facebook, yet I can't see a way to edit those contacts to add a phone number.
I want to buy an iPhone 4 tomorrow from a store near where I live (it's not an authorized dealer the iPhone costs $1000 there). Although there is an authorized dealer nearby, the iPhone from there would cost $400 more. However, I am really willing to buy a factory-unlocked iPhone 4 instead of a software-unlocked one, and I am going to check out the unauthorized dealer tomorrow. I am afraid that the salesman would trick me into buying a software-unlocked one without my knowledge. The reason for which I want a factory-unlocked iPhone is so that I wouldn't have to jailbreak it each time I update it and risk getting it locked by mistake in case that there is no available software yet to unlock it. Therefore, I would like to know what are some features that would help me identify a factory-unlocked from a software-unlocked iPhone. For example, what is the default iPhone software that Apple releases with all iPhone 4's (if there is a default software version)? Would the Cydia icon be visible on a software-unlocked iPhone (I'm afraid that it would be hidden in some way)? Also, I would PLEASE like to know some more ways to identify the factory-unlocked from the software-unlocked iPhone without having to restore it.
I bought an Iphone 3G on Craigslist last night to use on T-mobile. When I got the phone it was restored to factory settings so I took it home, plugged it into Itunes, and set it up. Upon connecting it to Itunes it said your phone is unlocked. Now, the guy who sold it to me said he originally bought it on Ebay from Australia. Does that mean its 'factory unlocked'? Everything has worked fine since I put my T-Mobile SIM card into it except MMS. Looking online for solutions I've found that people recommend downloading 'Legacy' through Cydia but my Iphone isn't Jailbroken. So I have no Cydia app. I don't necessarily want to Jailbreak but if I did could I do it from firmware 3.1.3?
IPhone 3G OS 3.0 jailbroken and unlocked. Phone wont charge, or turn on. I get the silver apple, but it shuts off after that. Reset method of home key and power yield same result. Itunes does not see phone. When I hold home key, the Itunes logo and USB cable appear and I am able to get it on Itunes, with option of restore to factory settings. Several questions and concerns:
1) This will wipe all data and contacts? 2) My OS will return to 2.2 something i belive. Can i still download OS 3.0 and the firmware to needed? Phone must be unlocked/jailbroken for use on my carrier. 3) Where can I download above files?
I jailbroke using redsn0w and unlocked using ultrasn0w. Everything went fantastic until I made a call. I can not hear any noise coming from the other end. This problem is fixed when on speakerphone. It does not matter whether the call is sent or recieved from the phone. Obviously, I would like to be able to use it when not on speakerphone. This phone had no problems in this regard before I jailbroke/unlocked it.
I'm about to get another iPhone and it will be on T-Mobile USA.What's the advantage of getting a Factory Unlocked 3GS? will it be like the new bootrom if jailbreaked?(need tethered reboot)?anyone with Factory Unlocked iPhone here?
how do I delete the applications on my Tour that I didn't download? I don't use AIM, Yahoo! Messenger, or anything like that, and I can't figure out how to delete them. When I select the app and hit the menu button, there's no "delete" option. I also have some NFL app that was installed after the update, which I definitely don't need.
I have a BB Curve 8530 and I have an icon on my home screen that I cannot figure out. It looks similar to the icon used for missed call or placed call except it has a curved arrow next to it. It is a gold phone receiver and the arrow is bent at a 45 degree angle. (kind of like a backwards check mark with an arrow head on the bottom). I have a suspicion that it has to do with call forwarding since I forwarded calls to a different phone # the other day, however, I cancelled that. I have checked my messages folder, rebooted, pulled battery, done an update, etc. Nothing works.
I had the problem of random restarts after lollipop update (exactly afte rsometime i changed to pattern security )and i gave to service center and they told its OS issues and downgraded to 4.4.4. After that i installed all my apps in 4.4.4 (standard apps like banking, skype etc..) and used it for a while. when i tried to use screen lock as "Pin" this rebooting issue starting again? I managed to change it to "Swipe" and did wipe cache partition, and till now (for last 45mins atleast) its running okay.
I'm on a BB Curve 9300. Trying to do some call-forwarding but I cant find it. I've searched for prolly 30 mins now and cant find an effective answer. All the answers seem to be saying the same thing:Press the Send keyPress the Menu keySelect OptionsSelect Call ForwardingThe thing is once I goto Options in step 3, I dont see Call Forwarding anywhere.
I have had an envelope email indicator for a couple of weeks and I have searched through my archives emails and I cannot find an unopened message. I have rebooted many times and even taken out the battery.
I have been using the new Hangouts app with merged SMS and I like it. I can't figure out for the life of me why all people either appear as their photos in G+, others who have no photos appear white on gray background and one contact appears dark blue on light blue background. What the dark blue on light blue icon means?
