IPhone :: I Am Travelling To US And I Want To Use My Iphone For Car GPS Navigation Without 3G/4G Or Wifi.
Apr 12, 2012
I am from India and I want to use my iphone in US for GPS Navigation. I want to us the phone in airplane mode without wifi. can some one help me on this pls.
I will be going on vacation and to avoid the ridiculous roaming data charges, was wondering how I can connect to BIS over wifi? I have a BB data plan with my carrier (Rogers). I just want to be able to receive e-mails and use BBM when I'm connected via wifi while I'm away. I'm guessing that if I set "Data Services" to On and "While Roaming" to Off, under Mobile Network Options, this would NOT work, correct? Or am I mistaken?
My wife and I each have an unlocked, no-contract iPhone 4s. Next month we'll be traveling for a couple weeks in Croatia (mostly) and a few days in Slovenia. We're planning to bring our phones with us. We'll be making just a few calls (probably to each other, when we get separated), and using some data - we'll try to take advantage of wfi when its available in our hotels, but I expect we'll use some data when no wifi is available. Doesn't have to be terribly fast (no streaming video), we'll make do with whatever connection speeds are available. I assume we can remove the micro-sim cards from the phones at home, before we leave (leaving them safely at home), then upon arrival at our destination purchase micro-sim cards for both phones, insert them and...I guess activate them on the local network.
Will the phones work during our flight over, without any sim card - (obviously not for calls or data, but for listening to music, watching preloaded movies or playing games)? I've never done this before, but I assume that all content on the phones (music, movies, apps & associated data) will be preserved - correct? Are there any gotchas I should watch out for around iTunes accounts, Apple IDs, setup, etc.? (my wife is not very good about remembering her itunes password...even at home). Basically, do I just pay for the local micro sim card and voice/data plan upon arrival, pop it in the phone, start it up, and start using it? Or do I need to go through any kind of initialization/reset process? My goal is to just change the phone carrier/phone number, but leave everything else on the phone intact and functional - so it's easily switched back once we get home.
I'll make sure that we've updated our phones and synced them via iTunes before we leave home, but I'm assuming we will not have access to any computer (at least none that I'd want to plug my phone into) while we're traveling. Once we get back home a few weeks later, I'm expecting things to return to normal when we pop our "domestic" sim cards back in - I'll assume we can start using the phones on our existing domestic carrier (with our original phone numbers) without having to jump through any extra hoops - correct? (BTW, no, I don't want to just pay our domestic carrier for a travel voice/data package - not an option for us, thanks; one of the reasons we bought unlocked, no-contract phones was to be able to use them internationally with local sim cards.)
I live in Canada and have an factory unlocked iPhone 4.
I bought a AT&T Sim Card off ebay and want to activate it so I can use my phone in Orlando when I travel.
I tried doing the online activation through AT&T's website, but get an error everytime I get to the last step. After doing some research, it seems as though AT&T's website doesn't like activating iPhone's through the site (I dunno).
I'm a newb at blackberry's..actually am waiting for my first one to arrive in the mail.I do have a question about BBM. I heard you can use it to IM anyone in the world w/ another blackberry for free. I would love to use this while I'm travelling in the Uk. But don't want to have to pay any data roaming fees from my carrier. I'm with Telus and am going to unlock my phone (Tour) so I can use it there.Does BBM run off of your data plan or how would I use it while travelling?
Recently, I updated my xperia Z3 DUAL (D6633) to a 23.4.A.1.232_R4C firmware version. After that, I realized that internet browsing using WIFI connection is slow. Page takes too long to load.
Tried using either Chrome and Firefox. Results are the same. Disabling WIFI and navigating with mobile data (3G/4G) runs fine.
Made factory reset, clear cache and software repair using Phone Companion. Problem remains.
I tried other wifi netwoks. Tried same wifi using other devices. Problem is with Z3.
I have Nokia 808 and when I try to Add new maps in Map Loader I get message: No connection to a WiFi network. But I'm connected to my WiFi network and that is very confusing to me.
If instructions upon page 77 of N9 UG (Eng) not clear enough you do need to download appropriate voice file with street names as none installed by default. After you have chosen "Walking person" icon > Get directions > Navigate you need to tap upon grey tool bar at base of screen After selecting Voice Guidance > tap on select voice to reveal choices available.
I have downloaded the "Own Voice" guidance for navigation but seem to have lost my setting it up. how to set up my own voice? By that I mean, to record my own voice? All I can do as of now is choose "Own Voice" in the Settings -> Walk/Drive -> Voice Guidance. But where to RECORD my own voice?
is it possible to use the satellite view during navigation? Is saw this with the Google Maps navigation app and I'm wondering now, if it's possible with Nokia Maps, too.
Maps 3.08 does not let me calibrate my compass (at least not by ticking once or twice at the compass). By consequence, while navigating it does not orientate the display with the top in the forward direction. I found a workaround by using a separate compass application, calibrate the compass there, and then Maps works perfect. There must be a easier way to calibrate the compass from within the Maps application.
Any recommendations for the best turn by turn navigation app? Price is not a huge concern for me, id rather have a GPS that finds the best route and gets me there without issues. Traffic Reports is also optional.
Navigation used to work fine on my X6, but since having to do a hard reset of the phone (due to other problems!) I cannot use the Navigation.
Everytime I get the error 'navigation cannot start at this location' and it doesn't seem like the phone can ever pick up my location.I have tried un-installing and re-installing the application but to no-avail!I haven't even wasted my time calling Nokia Support, as they are totally useless!
getting very frustrated with this now. I have given my dad my N95 to help him get around but just cant get the map navigation to work. I downloaded the Nokia Map Loader (I had to go to a third party website as the Nokia links were all broken) and have the map/voices but when my dad tries to use the navigation it tells him he has to pay.Obviously, I know that Nokia have now made these services free to complete with other company's devices, I'm just being stupid and not going to the right place to download them. When i go to www.nokia.com/maps on the phone it doesnt do anything. I've been trying for over a day now and the phone has almost made contact with the wall a few time
My phone GPS Navigation is not working ...It is not receiving signals from satellites.i tried by activated all position methods assited & integrated GPS but still not working...
I've been trying to use the GPS navigation through NOKIA MAPS but it doesn't work, in my phone's screen appears "the license has expired" or something like that. I'd like to know what i've to do to make it work. Because Iv'e heard that tthe GPS navigation in other nokia models is free.
I started off with a droid 2 before I got my iphone 4. The droid 2 gps was phenomenal, I had no problems with it. Then I got an iphone which I assumed was going to be just as good if not better than the droid's gps. Boy was I wrong! The "Maps" app that came with the iphone did not re-route itself EVER when I was in a big city and I ened up getting lost.
So one of my friends downloaded the "Waze" app, which is ok. I mean it does work it's still not the greatest. My issue with that one is that it doesn't say "take next right exit 172B" it just says, "turn right here."
Automatic navigation to App Store? I'm using Iphone 4s with IOS 7.1.2..I'm having an issue as whenever I open and explore a link via twitter, often it navigates automatically to app store...
I was just curious as to whether anyone had any idea if Apple was going to be creating a new car dock for the iPhone for their new navigation system, or will they be using TomTom's dock.
I'm sitting at my desk and my wifi router is just a few feet from me. Despite the fact my iPhone 4S is connected, it only shows 3 bars of service. Is there something wrong with the wifi receiver on the phone?
