Before going to sleep I went into the App Store and updated a bunch of apps. When I woke up I noticed all my iMessages and text messages had no names. i have tried to cut off contact from settings>iCloud and turning it back on and I still get nothing. I have also restarted my phone. Under back up it says that the last backup couldn't be completed. This was about 1:48pm est. How to recover them. I'm still using ios7 on an iphone 4s.

I have an iphone 3GS using 5.1. I regularly sync/backup to my Macbook running 10.6.8. I probably do this once daily at least. The last sync/backup was this morning. Sometime this afternoon I lost all my contacts on my phone. It may have happened when I plugged my phone to my imac at work to recharge it (it is set not to sync, just to recharge, and I also do this regularly without any issues.) Recent and favorite phone numbers are there, along with texts and phone numbers for those, but only one contact was saved. This contact was added earlier this week. I tried to restore using the backup in itunes, but nothing came back. When I check for backups in the Devices tab of the Preferences, the only backup that shows up is the one where I tried to restore the contacts. I tried "Import SIM Contacts" through the Settings on the iphone, but nothing came back. I have also tried the trick with finding a message with a restored contact name (I have one) to "magically" get back all contacts and that does not work either. Everything else on the phone seems to be in place; just missing the contact names. Cannot find these backup files on my computer or on TimeMachine backups either.

I have just bought a new lap top and I have transferred all my files over to it. I backed up my I phone 3gs and then restored my new I phone 4gs with the back up. I mistakenly selected restore backup on my computer with my iphone 5S plugged in and little did i know it was going to delete all of my photos and contacts that I had from the past year and send me back to my last backup which was when ios 7 came out (LAST YEAR!!) I really need these photos and contacts back, so I did some research about recovering deleted files on my phone and turns out applications like these exist. I just don't know which ones to get. Most of them range from $50 to $100 so i really don't want to have to buy two of them. Some of them are called PhoneRescue, MobiSaver, Wondershare Dr. Fone...etc and i tried all of their 'free trials' and none of them worked.

And when i try to restore on my new 9810 it says "This data is already wirelessely synchronized with a remote service and cannot be restored by blackberry protect" only for contacts. I went to the att store where they transferred my contacts over to the S6. 2 days later I tried to install an ios emulator to download an app not available on android that I used to use. The emulator turned out to do nothing and I felt like I just installed malware so I look into restoring the phone to a previous point. To my surprise there is no option to do this but factory restore and then back up from your google account. I
do this thinking I'll be fine because I turned on the setting to back up my phone to the google account. I do the reset and discover that I only get one restore point and it doesn't mention from what time; just says "last used today". I do the restore even though its probably not far back enough to erase the damage the emulator download did and discover that I have lost all my contacts.
Whats the point of the backup if it doesn't backup the single most important thing: your contacts! Whats the point of backup if you can't restore to multiple points! Feeling really frustrated with this phone right now. Do I need to go back to ATT with my old iphone to get my contacts back again?
Today I went to update my X10. While at work it wouldn't allow me to as it insisted I connected it to a computer. So at home I got the USB cabled hooked up to my Linux Laptop and then discovered it had to be a windows computer.Anyway, I got it hooked to a Windows computer and the update process began. I followed every instruction and set all tickboxes for backup.After unplugging this and plugging it back in and rebooting here and there, it finally reached the restore process.I left it restoring for a while. When I came back to it, it said something had crashed. I don't know what as I'd just woken from a nap.But, it seems all my applications are restored. Yet my gmail account & Facebook account have become disassociated from my phone and all my contacts no longer have any names or pictures. I opened the contacts/phone book and the list is completely empty. tried to import contacts but it says it cannot find any anywhere.
