So I just got a HTC One and discovered that HTC messaging doesn't remember the contact images.
So I decided to use Google Hangouts instead. All was fine until I decided to send a photo. When I choose the default app to pick the photo and hit "always" it somehow doesn't remember my selection.
Hit the camera, choose send photo, then the popup shows up of using photos, gallery, etc. I choose photos and hit always.
I have noticed that if you are not using Samsung's default messaging application that you will not receive any "edge" notifications from your 5 favorite contacts. Need getting these to work if Hangouts is set as your default SMS application?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm having issues with some apps not remembering their settings. It's almost like the app has been reset.
The one with the problem most often is the stock camera app. When I go into it, it asks me repeatedly if I want to turn on geo tagging and whatever else it pops up even though I select to not ask again. The other day, Play did about the same thing. I had auto updates and update notifications turned off, and it randomly popped up that I had apps needing approval to update. I checked the settings and it reactivated the options to auto update (risking blowing out my data cap since I'm not always on Wi-Fi) and notifications.
I know that iPhone is supposed to remember a network and password with successful login, however...mine is not. It is an iPhone 4S running iOS 5.1. It is very frustrating to enter the password for my home network EVERY time.

I've set options for many apps (like to always allow the network access, to ask for reading user data the first time, etc.), but when I start the app, those options are not in effect. As one specific example, for Opera Mini, I set the option to always allow network access. But when I start this app and choose to open a link, it asks for the network access. Same for reading the user data. I checked the settings in the App Manager and they're fine, but just not in effect. I restarted the phone; still the same thing. The settings are present there alright, just not working. What else can be done to tell the phone to use the options set through the App Manager?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWP8 appears to completely lack the most basic Audiobook functioanlity. No seek/skip in audio or video? No bookmarking or remembering location in files?! I mean... I would like to see more advanced functionality specific to Audiobooks but these types of features are very useful for all sorts of media. The Nokia app doesn't even FFW or rewind through audio/video!
The Audible app is pretty great but I can't seem to figure out a way to use it to play any of the hundreds of older audiobooks I've created myself from my personal auiobook CD/Casette collection. I can't imagine what I'd do if I still needed to go through recorded lectures.
Is there any way to save the USB connection type when plugging the phone to the PC? Specifically MTP. I'm on the Verizon variant, unrooted.
Right now, when I plug it in, it comes up with "Connected as installer" and the Verizon Mobile cd drive thing gets mounted. If I wait it out or if I manually go into the phone and swipe down notifications to change the type to Media device (MTP), the phone mounts. Problem is, the next time i plug in the phone again, I have to either wait it out again or select MTP again. Is there a way to save it to the MTP option? First time on a Samsung phone and not sure if it was just like this since the beginning of time or what.
If I return to a Wifi zone that my Lumia 920 was previously connecting to I cannot get it to "remember" or automatically re-link to the same access point. My notebook & iPad does this without any intervention. I need to restart the Lumia 920 to get it linked.

View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter every call, Hangouts will freeze. It will unfreeze after about a minute. Then I send the error report, it will freeze again for another minute. Then I can click okay to close the app. SMS usually doesn't make it freeze, but sometimes will.

I backed up my first phone and then restored the new phone from that backup minutes later. Everything appears exactly as how i had it on the old m8, except my contacts and hangouts are doing this weird thing.
1. my google contacts are loading 141 people into my phone book. My google contacts in gmail, however, have only 85 people allotted for my phonebook in "my contacts" and my old device only displayed those 85.
2. Hangouts lists both the SMS and Hangouts convos separately, so that one contact (bob) is listed in a convo as both bob and bob with an "sms" icon in white over the bottom right of his profile picture.
I was using Hangouts 2.0 for SMS for a day or so, and I've noticed that it doesn't support splitting messages over 160 characters, as the stock HTC messages app (and Textra and most others) does. This is annoying, and until Google corrects this, I won't be using it.

So basically anybody can read my messages because hangouts will just automatically log me in. How the hell do you stop it from automatically signing you in? Can't find anything in settings and I've tried going into apps and deleting the hangouts cache and hangouts data. But it still signs me straight back in. It won't even let me delete the app either.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Verizon HTC One M8. The phone is great, but Google Hangouts rarely sends or receives MMS messages. Most of the time, it fails to send an MMS message, but when it does, it usually takes over 20 minutes.
The stock messaging app works fine and has no issues sending or receiving MMS instantly. However, I prefer Google Hangouts.
Also, I am not asking for solutions such as shutting off wifi or anything involving wifi calling being shut off because I don't have to do that with the stock messaging app and I do not plan to compromise by disabling another important feature in my phone.
I have my Google voice number as my default phone, and my default messaging app. It doesn't play nice with Ford Sync in our companies new Explorer. Let me state the regular Verizon number works flawless with it. Back to hangouts. I can dial out from sync with no problems. But incoming calls to the hangouts number(Google voice number) are not acknowledged by Sync. When I answer the call with the phone, the audio does come through sync, and I can hang up the call from sync. Text messages are not acknowledged at all by Sync. I can change sync to Bluetooth audio and hear/control from there. But, who wants to leave it set to Bluetooth audio. I want to hear the radio.

View 10 Replies View RelatedGoogle hangouts not updating their conversations properly? Messages I send don't show up in the chat unless I exit the conversation and then go back in. What gives? Is this something with hangouts or the s6? Like maybe the ram management thing?
And while we're in it, is it me or did the Google keyboard get noticeably worse too? Auto correct isn't as accurate or reliable anymore. I also notice they've removed the aggressive auto correct feature.
So i have been using a Galaxy S5 for about a month now... I noticed i was getting fullscreen pop ups and i though it was some downloaded apps and i removed them. But I am still getting them and i noticed it was only when I backout completely out of hangouts messaging app. If i press home or switch to another app I dont see the add. It has a grey background and the letter "i" on bottom left corner where i can press and it displays "ads by google".
I have scanned with Lookout, App brain and some other popular ad detector tools and nothing pops up so my guess is some setting on the phone that i might be opting out of something. Or maybe i turned off bloatware that is causing me this. My wife has the same phone and uses hangouts and its not getting the pop ups.
Will Lollipop add a lockscreen preview for Hangouts messages? I thought it did for Nexus devices, but I wasn't sure if Samsung was going to add it in.

Unfortunately, that means I can't get MMS messages when on Wifi. I'm using hangouts, but don't think it's hangouts specific. If there's a way to make this work?
When I'm listening to music, either through Bluetooth or the phone's speakers (haven't tested this with headphones), and I get a Google Voice call through Hangouts, the music will pause while the phone rings, but a second or two after I answer the call, the music will start playing again. It's much quieter and awful quality, but still loud enough for the other person to hear and drown out their voice.
I'll answer the phone and start talking, then the music starts playing again and I have to tell that person to hold on a second while I pull the phone away from my face to pause the music. It's extremely annoying and it's never happened on any other Android device I own.

View 2 Replies View RelatedFor the last couple months, people have complained that they hear an echo of themselves when I call them using speakerphone. With some trial and error, I've determined that the echo occurs because the microphone on my end is picking up the sound of the phone's loudspeaker (hitting the mute button on my end stops the echo for the other person).
This only occurs when I'm using a third party application. Speakerphone works fine if I'm using the native dialer. But any speakerphone or video call from Hangouts or Facebook Messenger gives the person on the other end of the line the intolerable echo of themselves.
The echo still happens in safe mode. The echo remained after I wiped the cache partition, and even after a full factory reset.
I use hangouts every day to talk to my girlfriend. For about the last week or so I've had many occasions where hangouts crashes, normally when our call gets cut off. Maybe related to the update to 5.1 which I did around a week ago.
