Google Nexus 5 :: Random Shutdowns After Battery Change
Dec 17, 2015
2 nights ago I opened up my sons Nexus 5 and changed the battery. I replaced it with a oem replacement that I found on Amazon. I put the phone back together and everything works fine, but he is suffering from random shutdowns. He says that he plays his phone throughout the day and every now and then when he pulls his phone out of his pocket it has powered off. He has to hold down the power button to restart the phone. Do I need to take the phone back apart?
So, I had my N5 since 2013 and the battery as the updates went around was up and down until Marshmallow came out, it was amazing. Great speed , battery and everything, but i broke my own rule and updated to 6.0.1 as soon as i was able to. Well since then the battery isn't so good, and whenever I use heavy apps (primarily when i try to multitask between them) the phone will black out and will turn back on with a chunk of battery missing or it used to be dead. Again this only started with new update so I cant totally point at the battery being old as the problem, but as a new bug with update. I cleared cache and reset it. I tried to downgrade it but kept saying there was missing images and such.
Ever since 5.1.1 rolled out it seems like the battery was draining faster than normal but it was at least usable. Now, my phone will just randomly shut off while i'm in the middle of doing something(so far it has only shut off while i'm using the phone and not while it's idle). When it does shut off it could have between 80% and 100% battery even and then when i turn it back on after it shuts off my battery will be around 15% and will shut off again almost immediately.
If i plug the phone into the charger (with it turned on or off) it will charge to full in less than half an hour so i seriously doubt that the battery is actually draining, but the phone sure thinks it is.
So far to try and fix this i've wiped the cache and also performed a full factory reset and that actually only seemed to make it worse - before the reset this only happened maybe 3 or so times per month...now it's happening 3 or 4 times per day which really makes it unusable. The apps that i'm using when it shuts off are not consistent. It will do it in games, in chrome, in messenger - really anything.
I'm willing to try anything - if I didn't provide enough information about something let me know and i'll be glad to follow up.
I'll be using my phone and sometimes, it'll just shutoff as if you were to press and hold the power button to force it to reboot. I'm on the stock ROM and just reflashed the latest image and its still doing it, is my power button faulty?
I've got some random reboots after upgrading on stock Lollipop 5.1 on my Nexus 5.I've used Android 5.0.1 without any reboots or problem, but after upgrading on 5.1 I'm facing many random reboots when I switch from an app (like a game or Hangouts) using Recents or Home button from NavBar (it also happens randomly when I'm using my phone, like writing a message on Hangouts). The reboots I'm talking about are not "soft" but "hard", because bootloader's logo (Google) appears and restarts my phone, so it is caused by Kernel Panic (as you'll see in my last_kmsg) and they occured on both stock and custom rom.
I've got a nexus 5 running lollipop (5.0.1) and the phone will randomly shutdown or reboot. I've tried a factory reset as well as clearing the cache after the reset. That did not solve the problem. I'm hoping its not a harware issue but given that I don't have a single app other than the default google apps installed.
Seems like my Nexus 5 won't send SMS messages, at random times, for no apparent reason. I'm sending messages to friends, getting responses, then boom, the "sending" bounces, but refuses to send the SMS. It then gives me a message saying that it failed, and is retrying. Still won't send, until kt decides to randomly send the SMS at some point. I am on the Fido (Canadian) network. I tried through Hangouts and through a 3rd party app.
I've been having random shutdowns lately. And i just got a warranty exchange same thing happens. I have the t-mobile version. i do have the latest version of 5.1.1 ....
This just started happening recently. I'll be sitting with a full LTE connection reading news when suddenly pages will stop loading in Chrome. Trying to launch Facebook or any other connected app at that point won't work. Check settings and I have full bars and all white/gray, not orange indicating a lost Google connection. Only thing that resolves it is to reboot the phone. It will work fine after that until a later date when the same thing happens. Not a tower issue either as this happens everywhere. Stock Nexus 5, not rooted and on T-Mobile.
My phone now goes into random reboot and goes into "Android is starting Optimizing app x of xxx" mode. It take a lot of efforts to bring phone back to normal. I googled for this issue but didn't find any firm solution for the same. My phone has custom ROM based on 5.1.1
The issue started few days ago and I am using this ROM since long time.
I usually put my N5 on an LG Wireless Qi charger at night before bed. Over the last week, I had a couple of days that when I woke up, I noticed that Android Assistant has reported a reboot over night.
I used to get the occasional reboot but on Thursday maybe from any update my phone was rebooting every 20 minutes even after clearing the cache. After Thursday it stopped rebooting and hasn't ever since.
The only other annoyance I received was camera cannot connect when I tried opening the camera app but was resolved with a reboot.
I have Nexus 5 and was running good with Marshmellow and suddenly one day the screen started scrolling up. Restart or factory reset did not work. While starting the boot logo was also corrupted and I use to get is display with random pixels lit with different colors, mostly white and red. So have tried different bootloaders and even downgrading to 4.4.4 but the issue is still there.
I replaced the cracked LCD. Every time time the screen is awakened the touchscreen seems to randomly choose a different Y-axis starting position. Sometimes it is correct sometimes it is a little off and sometimes way off. Is this a defective replacement or is it an android issue.
Yesterday I did an update to several programs including Google and noticed major battery drain. I was not sure which program did it but checked Battery in Settings and saw it was the screen causing the drain. Apparently when the Google program updated, it changed the setting for automatic brightness adjustment to ON. I turned it off and the battery is fine. I keep brightness set to about one quarter to one third brightness. I think the battery life is great and I can easily get thru the day.
Nexus 5, 16GB, MRA58N (stock, not rooted). Sometimes the power percentages shown for each process in the battery monitor do not add up to the total battery drain? I am finding that sometimes they add up to within 1% of the total shown.... and sometimes they are WAY off with as much as 30% of the displayed battery drain unaccounted for. Since I don''t have access to the battery terminals, I can't determine independently whether the percentages shown are simply inaccurate, or whether there are missing processes (ie., processes not shown at all in the battery monitor).
Whenever I want to open a link I always get a dialogue box asking me to choose what app to open it with, and also whether that is every time or just once. I usually reply just once, but then I accidentally clicked 'every time'. Now I want to change the app that I use, but now I don't get the choice. How can I restore that dialogue giving me the choice?
I am running the Purity Rom on my Nexus 5. Now I wanted to change my boot animation. I wanted to know if Purity allows me to change the boot animation and what is the quickest and safest way to do this. And one last question is changing the boot animation risky?
How do you change the icons on the Nexus 5 with stock Google Launcher? I used to use the Nova launcher b/c you could customize the heck out of it, but with the Nexus 5 I'm really happy with the stock Launcher and it's integration with Google Now. The only problem is that I can't seem to customize the options with the stock Google Experience Launcher.
I have successfully changed the Wi-Fi Device Name on my Nexus 5 via Settings > Wi-Fi > Options menu > Wi-Fi Direct > Rename Device.
The problem is that this has not changed what I understand as the Wi-Fi device name, i.e. the network hostname of the device. The hostname remains as "android-<long alphanumeric string>".
I am using a Nexus 5, and I am not able to set a launcher by default. I have downloaded, Hola launcher, Solo Launcher, APUS launcher and Nova Launcher. But except Google Now Launcher, nothing stays default. if this is some bug in the latest 5.1.1 upgrade.
