Google Nexus 5 :: Notification Shade Won't Completely Open
Jul 12, 2014
Ever since the 4.4.4 update, I've noticed if I get a notification when the screen is locked, turn on the screen and pull the shade down, it won't go all the way down the first time. I have to do it twice.
So I just got my HTC One M8 yesterday and did a ton of things to set it back up. So far there is just the one thing I really miss over my Nexus 4 .... no upcoming alarms in the notification shade.
I have 3 alarms set for the morning my first wake up 2nd wake up then the leave the house alarm. It was easy to set these alarms up but this morning when I woke up before the first one (like normal) I'm used to pulling down the notification shade and my Nexus 4 had entries for the next 2 hours of upcoming alarms. I could then tap the dismiss alarm and it wouldnt go off when the time came around.
So this morning I had to uncheck the box activating the alarm then wait for the time to pass and turn it back on. This is doable but kind of annoying now that I'm used to dismissing it..... Any way to get the upcoming alarms in the notification window like my Nexus 4? or a way that without turning off the alarm I can dismiss the alarm from going off for that day but it will still go off the next?
The main problem is that my Nexus 5 (which is over a year old now) has been turning itself off and on for a couple of weeks now. At first it didn't bother me too much, because I could usually turn it on easily again. However the last few days this happened more frequent and today it just won't turn on again. I dropped it once and the screen broke. Had it replaced, but when I got it back the chip overheated really fast and the phone rebooted, resulting in an error message. I went back to the store and they replaced the motherboard, free of charge. they probably broke it when they replaced the screen. After 6 months or so, my screen broke again, due to work related circumstances (a machine malfunctioned and the phone actually saved my skin...). Had it replaced again and no further problems occurred, until now. The chip doesn't overheat, btw.Ok, so now a list of things I have tried and things that are noticeable, to spare you guys the comments
- The phone turns off randomly, both fully charged and when the battery is almost drained. - The chip doesn't get hot, just normal when playing, for instance, a game with heavy graphics. - I'm not using any particular app when it turns off, it is really random - It turns off more frequent when I have the phone in the pocket of my trousers then anywhere else...his could however just be random. - When the phone works again and shows me the main menu, there is NO error message stating that the phone has recovered from an unexpected shutdown. This did happen when the motherboard was broken. - I tried every possible button-combo there is (power+vol up/down - hold power for +30 seconds - rapidly press power until my finger bleeds).
Last but not least... - I have the strong feeling it is a connection problem somewhere...Before today, when it shut off and the power button didn't turn it on again, I tapped the phone on the back, roughly where the hardware is located and it turned the phone on.
Today I opened the phone for the first time, but haven't gone any further than that. I might remove the battery and have a look at it, blow on it for luck and stuff, and see if there's any connection problem....Other than that...I don't know.
What changed overnight for my phone. My app drawer now scrolls down instead of flipping through pages. And at the top of the page seems to be a "most used" section.
I have serious connectivity issues with my Nexus 5. Most of the time I am only picking up 2G signal, sometimes the connection drops completely. However, I had a very unstable 3G/H/LTE connection for a few minutes sometimes in the last days. This started after changing the battery and upgrading from Cyanogenmod 12 to 12.1. Unfortunately I did both changes at the same time, so I am not sure what caused this problem.
The following things I could rule out/test: - Another phone (Nexus 4) picks up H+ with my sim - My phone doesn't pick up 3G/H/LTE with another (working) sim - I have checked the connections of the both cables running alongside the battery, I also checked the cables itself. - I fiddled with the apn settings, also I never touched them before and everything worked fine. - I have updated the radio image.
The one thing I couldn't try is flashing an older cyanogenmod 12, because I have no backup and couldn't find one online.
Yesterday my power button died, but I was able to turn on my N5 somehow. after, I've enabled the double tap to sleep on the statusbar and on the lockscreen and volume buttons now wake the device, but I wasn't able to remap the power button and if I accidentaly press it, I don't know what will happen.
So, there's any method to completely disable the power button? I've tried with gravity box but there isn't any option to do this. How to disable the power button from the .kl files in system/usr/keylaout? And then, can I use the volume buttons to turn on the device when it's off or I have to keep it on forever?
Today i woke up to see my nexus and it was not on. So I Press the button to turn on it but in the Moment that the word "GOOGLE" appears and then appears the 4 color just in that moment, it got STACK and automatically restart.
I believe since my last android update. When i receive MMS messages , I can't open them... When I click download it's downloading for a few minutes and then it just tell me message not downloaded. Touch to retry... I Have a nexus 5 therefore I only use hangouts.
One day (just like this, I don't remember doing anything special with my phone), the camera completely stopped working, along with the lamp. (The situation right now) :
1. Camera doesn't show up in the application drawers 2. It DOES show up in Settings/Applications, and in "My applications" tab from Google Play, but I cannot open it in any way. When I could, however, it would just crash away. 3. I am also unable to access the stock lamp from anywhere (quick settings, etc.)
THE INITIAL SITUATION AND THE EVOLUTION OF THE PROBLEM :
1. I was running CM12.1 (nightlies) on my Nexus 5, and I beieve it occured after an update, but I don't believe it really has much to do with it. When I tried to open the camera, it would show me "unable to get a link with the camera" (translation may not be exact) and the system lamp had disappeared
2. I tried to downgrade the phone, to an earlier nightly, but it didn't fix it.
3. I've done every kind of wipes : Data, Dalvik, Cache, even Internal Storage
4. After a full Internal Storage Wipe, I reflashed fresh Marshmallow images from the official website, unrooted, reflashed stock recovery, relocked the bootloader and used the system factory reset again on my phone.
5. After this, the problem changed a little bit. The lamp is still impossible to find, but however this time the camera is too. What I mean is, on CM, it used to show up and crash, now I can't find it in the app drawer ....
Recently I discovered that I could not open PNG type file attachments. LP would just spin it's wheels with no display. The solution was to install an app which could handle PNG file types ... Fast Image Viewer.
Then I realized I needed more control over which apps are used with specific file types.
(Similiar to Windows Open With option.)
I discovered the app ... Better Open With ... which permits the user some control and visibility.
BOW permits the user to set the default app used to open each catergory of file types.
You also can change the default app as desired...and override the default if needed.
The app replaces the Android "Complete Action Using" function.
So far so good ... I have more control! I do wish it listed the actual file types ... not just file categories.
Suddenly, my notification bar has stopped (vertical and horizontal), so, I cannot receive any notification.I did a dalvik cach, or even check in settings. But I couldn't see nothing that made it be stopped. I'm using XtraSmooth ROM.
I pulled my phone out a bit ago and my LED Notification LED was flashing blue at me. I checked the notification area and there was nothing there. I checked my settings in Light Flow Lite and checked the three areas it was controlling that had a bluish light set. Nothing there (I even changed the colors of those notifications - no change). I looked around the phone as much as I could figure out and could find nothing. I finally had to reboot the phone to get the light to go off.
I'm an immigrant to Android from iOS. On my iPhone, whenever there is an incoming call that I didn't answer, or a new message, there is always a very visible notification on the phone desktop, so I can deal with it immediately. This doesn't seem to be happening with my Nexus 5. Sometimes I don't discover the message, which was obviously designed for immediate reading, until days after, when I am going through my messages. I'm sure there must be a way to make the phone let me know, but I haven't figured it out yet.
I've been having a problem these past few days, something strange is happening..
1) When i use google voice to set a reminder, for example "remind me in 2 hours to take out the laundry" it sets an alarm for that reminder instead of a notification
2) If i set the same reminder for a couple of days from now it sets it as an appointment in the calendar (it asks me which calendar app i want to use, which is new) instead of a reminder.
3) When i manually set a reminder it doesn't notify me
4) I cant seem to find where the setting is for the sound played for the reminder notification, which was somewhere in the past.
Not sure it doesn't sound weirs but with root and your notification light, is there any worry about burning out that led notification light on the top speaker grill at all?
Somewhere along the way I lost the "Reply, Delete" and body of messages in my notification window(just have a single height notification). I've uninstalled anything notification related, and reset Gmail back to factory, but haven't had any luck.
I just got my Nexus 5 working today. I installed a keyboard app and everytime I use the app there is a little keyboard icon that shows up in the notification bar at the top left. How do I make that go away?
My phone has just started giving annoying little clicks when I open the screen up or close it. I can't find anywhere in settings) sounds to turn this off.
I download a battery percentage app and when the screen is locked I have the white notification bar in the middle of screen How do I remove it but yet still keep battery percentage in status bar?
I miss my custom light i had with my nexus 5. I use light flow and it didn't work i used light manager and it didnt work. Just wondering any other apps that for sure is working in 4.4.2
I get a Kerrklunk Klink noise whenever the screen lights up on my Nexus 5 ,before I unlock the screen. Also periodically in the background during calls and when using navigation. Tried to find the answer on forums etc ( NFC is off) and scoured my apps but it's still there. It's a sound nowhere on my list of notification sounds btw
