Google Nexus 5 :: Hanging Up While Booting - Cache And System Flashing
Dec 29, 2015
One fine day, my nexus 5 started hanging up while booting. After the google Logo, the Marshmallow animation would show up and then it would hang and power off. I have no problem in doing a factory reset/wipe of my phone. But the only thing i want to save is my contacts. I have tried erasing and re-flashing system, cache, boot and boot-loader. Using ADB, flashing the cache always fails........
However, i have not touched userdata as i think it would affect the contacts too. I have even tried using different custom recoveries such as CWM, TWRP and even Philz Touch to use adb to pull my SD card files to my PC. Even flashing the system is not working now.... (atleast that's what my results were) .
Philz touch error messages....
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_install

Well I'm back at it again. Always had a problem of phone shutting off and entering qhdbootloader 9008 (however it goes) and I just run the boarddiag tool but this time its not that far. Well whenever it does that I also have to reflash system but now when I try to flash a rom, it gets to the installing system part in twrp and hangs, then reboots at the google logo until I enter recovery again. Aka I cant flash a rom, hangs and reboots at the installing system portion
I've compiled CM13 without any problems. Flashing my build in recovery also went without errors but after reboot I get stuck at Google logo and nothing more. My question is how to fix this bootloop to make that ROM usable? Maybe I have to do something with source code.. I don't really know.
I now for the past hour am trying to wipe the partition cache but when I get to the last step where it shows the no command instead of it bringing me to the recovery menu it just reboots every time.
To wipe the cache partition, follow these steps:
Turn off the device. Press and hold the Volume Up and the Volume Down and Power keys at the same time for about 10 seconds. An image of an Android lying on its back will appear. Press the Volume Down key twice until "Recovery mode" appears on the screen. Press the Power key to restart in "Recovery mode." An image of an Android with a red triangle will appear. While holding down the Power key, tap the Volume Up key. The Android System Recovery screen will appear. Release all keys. (But it does not appear it just reboots the device and brings me back to the lock screen every time) Use the Volume keys to scroll to wipe data cache partition and press the Power key to select. The phone will restart.
my Nexus 5 all of a sudden. My phone wouldn't boot up and is stuck at the google logo and would not go further no matter how long i wait. I tried going to the recovery mood which i did but when i selected recovery mode using the vol up and down keys to navigate and hit on power button nothing happened, just a blank screen. I can soft reset or hard reset my phone. All i see is a blank screen if i try doing a soft or a hard reset and if i try to power on normally all i see is the Google logo.
Using Android 4.4.4 No rooted
I cant figure out if this is a software issue or a hardware issue. I read a few posts about people talking about the power button. The power button seems to be all fine.
Just a question for everyone that occasionally wipes the cache partition from recovery like I do. I'm on my 2nd replacement and after I set it all up I wiped the cache partition but for some reason it takes longer than usual for the process to finish. Usually it would be like 2 seconds where now it takes around 35-40 seconds to complete. How long does it usually take you to clear your cache?
My colleague was trying to unlock bootloader "fastboot oem unlock" and after that it stuck on erasing userdata for around 2 hours. Then he restart device now while flashing it says "cannot mount /cache"and few other errors.
I tried flashing Stock 5.0/5.1 nothing works (Stuck at loading screen). Then i tried Android 4.4.4 and it worded.
Now at this point in recovery mode it still says "cannot mount /cache" and few other errors. I cannot use gallery/camera/playstore. When i open gallery it says "No external Storage available".
I used to get the occasional reboot but on Thursday maybe from any update my phone was rebooting every 20 minutes even after clearing the cache. After Thursday it stopped rebooting and hasn't ever since.
The only other annoyance I received was camera cannot connect when I tried opening the camera app but was resolved with a reboot.
Nexus 5 taken a while to wipe cache partition? It takes a good minute or 2 on the nexus 5 but on the nexus 4 it takes 2 seconds. Both are running Android 4.4.2 the nexus 5 and the nexus 4.
it takes about 5 - 10 minutes to perform a wipe from Recovery, where in Lollipop and before, it was a few seconds. A couple of websites have corroborated this.what's changed in 6.0 that a cache wipe takes so long? I'm on an unrooted N5 and performed a clean factory flash (and re-locked the bootloader).
Code: mkfs -t ext4 /dev/[device] to Code: rm -rf /cache/*
Or something, I mean, even formatting a heavily encrypted partition shouldn't take that long (especially one as small as /cache).
Yessterday my Nexus 5 battery drained out and instead of shutting down, it tried to restart and got stuck in the startup sequence with the dots floating on the screen. I went into bootloader mode and then into recovery mode where I saw the cache errors.
E: failed to mount /cache (invalid argument)
I started to read a bit more on fixing the issue and the first solution was to flash it with the stock cache.img. However, when I unlock the OEM using fastboot oem unlock and reboot the boot-loader, it is going back to the locked state. I'm not sure if I'm going wrong somewhere but I haven't been able to flash my phone yet with the stock rom.
This just randomly started happening. When making calls, I hear ringing and right when the other person picks up, the phone automatically ends the call as if I hit the end call button. Same thing happens with incoming calls. I have full bars when this happens. So far, I've tried re-inserting the SIM card and doing a cache partition wipe to no avail. What could be going on?
I was restoring a twrp backup and when it reaches "flashing system image" in the restore process it just reboots. Ive tried a few things but cant get it going. It just bootloops.
So I'm running PAC ROM; I have a slight issue, I want stock GApps on my phone to add some features I've been wanting. When I flash it (tk_gapps-stock-5.1.1-20150809-signed.zip) on the official Nexus 5 lolipop ROM I got an error message, I read it and it says that I need to flash is ontop of another TK GApps, unless I wipe my cashe partition. So I wiped my Davlick Cashe and Cashe. Still have me the same message.
So I am lagging behind a little in the updates department. I am currently on kitkat 4.4.4 (towelrooted, TWRP recovery with system files modified). AFAIK, i can't use the OTA update I received months ago for 5.0. Is there anyway I can upgrade (without wiping any data), to 6.0? If not, what would be the best way to upgrade to 5.0 (not a clean install/wipe)?
Just got a replacement device from moto, and I wanted to flash build E for 5.1, I am currently running build E, but when I was flashing the newer build I forgot to have the phone update to 5.0.1, so I jumped from 5.0 straight to 5.1. Should I have updated to 5.0.1 then to 5.1?
I pulled my phone out a bit ago and my LED Notification LED was flashing blue at me. I checked the notification area and there was nothing there. I checked my settings in Light Flow Lite and checked the three areas it was controlling that had a bluish light set. Nothing there (I even changed the colors of those notifications - no change). I looked around the phone as much as I could figure out and could find nothing. I finally had to reboot the phone to get the light to go off.
I was using the Cataclysm Rom for months without any problems. Today I restarted my phone (I do this every other day, when it gets a little bit slow) and it stuck in bootloop.
I tried wiping dalvik/cache, doing a factory reset, reflashing Cataclysm, nothing worked. So I decided to go back to stock (using [URL] ....) and I'm still stuck in a bootloop every time. I can access and use fastboot/stock recovery in the normal way, but it won't boot.. What I could do?
I tried to root my phone, but I cant get past flashing the superSU.
I am running the latest version of android and I tried both TWRP and CWM.. I get to flash the custom recovery and boot up, but as soon as I try to flash SuperSU the phone gets stuck into bootloop. (also when I use CWM phone automaticly overwrites the custom recovery to stock, I know how to fix this but I must get the root access first though...)
Currently I reflashed factory Images and I am using my phone completely naked only with vital apps. But I am not willing to back down, I would like to find the fix and Root it till the end.
I made some editions on my system's sound files (like lock and unlock screen sounds) and made it like the "idroid" in Metal Gear Solid 5 Ground Zeroes game but these sounds volumes are really low.The problem here is , nexus 5 doesn't have an option to adjust the system sounds volume unlike samsung galaxy phones which had an option to rise or low the system sounds volume.I tried volume boost app but it rise the whole speaker sounds. Is there any way to adjust the system sounds only ?
I am running a stock image on my N5 with root and need to add an apk into the system partition but the problem is that I have only 4mb left on there and the apk does not fit. Is it possible to resize the partitions and:
Still keep your data and/or Allow for OTA installations down the road?
I need to install an apk to /system/app but my system partition has no free space. Using "df" command in terminal emulator, it says 0.0K free in /system. I have Android 6 DP3 and I've never pushed any file to /system before. Is there any way to extend system partition?
I'm having some difficulty with doing this. Recently, a family member of mine had purchased a stereo system, more specifically, the LG mini hi-fi cm4320. Everything about the system seems to be functional except for USB port to mp3 capability. From the outside, it would appear that this should function the same as if it were a car stereo/radio system with the same USB connection option. Each time I try establish connection with my phone, the system's screen flashes "search/no USB", switching between the two. Is this an issue with my phone or the stereo system itself? In any case, how do I go about correcting it.
I was on 4.4.2 until two days ago when I flashed (for the first time, with success.. I think) to 4.4.3. Of course my bootloader was locked so when I unlocked it I lost my data, even with removing the -w flag in the batch file. Anyhow, here is what I had in my platform tools folder before executing the script to flash:
Notice that I don't have a system image in the directory. While the command prompt was executing, I noticed that it said "unable to find system.img" yet, when all was said and done, my phone rebooted, and it shows me on 4.4.3 now. I'm assuming it was successful because all the features of my phone work and it shows 4.4.3 like everyone else, but I'm still worried that the initial system img file wasn't in the directory. Should I go ahead and make sure ALL the img files (not just bootloader and radio) are in platform tools folder and re-flash again? Luckily I won't lose everything this time since my bootloader is unlocked and I will simply keep -w removed from the batch file.
