Google Nexus 5 :: Search App Constantly Crashing In The Background?
Oct 30, 2014Ever since Tuesday morning on 10/28 Google Search app has been crashing repeatedly over and over again in the background. I did not think much of it first few times, but then yesterday and today it started becoming more frequent. It seems to be happening almost every hour.
So I started doing some trouble shooting and caught the app running at over 500 MB of RAM!! Then of course it shortly after crashed. I have attached a screen shot of that, in addition to battery stats from overnight when I was sleeping, so everyone can see how often it is occurring as well. I have reported at least 8 of the crashes to the Google report option that comes up.
So far I have tried restarting my phone multiple times, and have tried clearing the cache on the Google Search app. Still has made absolutely no difference. Would like to try to avoid resetting the phone if possible.

Jun 18, 2015I cannot seem to convince my camera app to operate. As soon as I touch the icon, it produces a window stating that unfortunately the Camera has stopped. Tried to switch off and on the phone several times, but to no avail. My Nexus 5 runs on 5.1.1.

May 25, 2015What a crummy weekend for the Music apps to start crashing - Memorial Day weekend when I'm driving so much. Google Music keeps crashing as soon as I start navigation in Google Maps. I tried Amazon Prime Music too - same issue. So, I'm thinking it's the recently-updated Maps app that isn't multitasking well.

Jan 18, 2015Around a year ago, my Nexus 5 kept 'crashing' on a very regular basis. However, I'm saying 'crashing' between '' because the phone was still on. I felt it vibrating when I'm called, the music kept playing and the notification light flashes. So the device was on, the backlight was working, but my screen remained black. The only solution was to 'hard reset' the device (holding the power button +- 10 seconds). The problem however kept reappearing.
I send it back twice, did multiple factory resets (with and without backup) and it seemed fixed. Until now, the problem is back since last week.
Sometimes it 'crashes' twice in a row, sometimes the device works fine for another 24 hours straight. I'm currently doing another factory reset, but my experience tells me this won't really solve anything. This is also the reason why it's hard to explain this problem to the manufacturer: when I send it to them, I lose my phone for more than 3 weeks minimum and it could be that their tests show no problems at all.

Feb 16, 2015My device was working fine, but suddenly my screen went blank(device turned off without any warning), an then thinking that it must be off I tried switching it back on but in vain. There was no response from the device. After these failed attempts I plugged it into the charging port and since then it is coming to the Google Flash screen(the one before the bubble animation) and then switching back off within a sec. I tried going to the Boot screen but in vain coz I dnt get enough time to select even Power off or any other option. What to do...I went through a few forums but could not decide what to do finally. And i need my Nexus 5 back to proper woorking as soon as possible without any data being erased.

Sep 30, 2015Bought a Nexus 5 about 6 months ago USED. It has been amazing. I got the latest OTA a week ago or so, not sure if that has anything to do with current issues.
About 2 days ago started randomly restarting. Today, it shut down and has been in continuous loop restarting. I see "Google" and maybe even the boot dots loading, then it is off. Three seconds later, starts again and repeats. Never makes it all the way into Android system. I let it sit for a while and when I pick it up, without touching any buttons, it repeats all of this. I suppose it is probably dead in general, but I don't know.
Never rooted, never messed with, always been stock,....

Jul 8, 2015Got the N5 in 2012 with 4.4.4 on loved it, no problems then. Then lollipop came along causing battery drain and random crashes. Waited for 5.1 hoping for fixes, installed it battery life improved but still crashed randomly. I put it down to the memory leak problem. I decided to downgrade. I downgraded back to kitkat 4.4.4 after unlocking the boot loader. Now I have random crashes running Kit Kat.
PS If I carry my USB battery pack around and keep phone plugged into it the phone never crashes. Its just not a very mobile phone then!!

Dec 1, 2014So I've had lollipop since the Dev preview was released and I had less bugs on the preview than the final release. After side loading lollipop my phone randomly restarts itself and goes into loop. It gets to the point that when I try to get into recovery mode I can't make it to the restart boot loader screen without my phone constantly restarting.
Eventually it stops after a few minutes or up to a few hours. When this cycle occurs and I plug it into the charger the cycle gets even worse. My phone was unusable for over 5 hours yesterday. I've tried restoring it but no luck. What do I do !?

Google Nexus 5 :: Constantly Rebooting And Now Phone Won't Turn Back On?
May 19, 2015A few days ago my Google Nexus 5 began constantly rebooting for no apparent reason. Most times when the phone rebooted it would not even get past the Goolge logo before rebooting again. Occasionally the phone would go farther at which point it would say that it was optimizing apps. Sometimes it would reboot again right in the middle of this process. I was not connected to WiFi at the time this whole thing began so it should not have been updating in the first place.
On the rare occasions that the phone started up completely I tried running it in Safe Mode, clearing the cache and doing a factory reset in the hopes that the issue is being caused by an app, all to no avail!!!! NOW THE PHONE WON'T EVEN TURN ON!!!!
Google Nexus 5 :: Won't Turn On - Constantly On Startup Logo For Few Seconds
Jul 13, 2015I've had my Nexus 5 phone for 16 months now - generally worked great. Occasionally it dies and wont power up, but tends to be fine once you leave it charged for 10 minutes and give it a go a few times.
However, now, it wont boot up at all. It has a mind of its own of turning on and off every few seconds, and then just staying on the Google logo before switching off again.
Very occasionally it gets to the 4 circles but again shut offs after a few seconds.
I've read a few threads that suggest pressing Vol button and power on button. I've tried that and get to the android robot screen, but it switches off like 1 second after, so im unable to select any options.
When I have connected to a charger, it constantly boots up and switches off the google logo after couple of seconds all by itself. But if not connected to a charger, then it remains off unless I press power button or give it a little knock.

Jan 19, 2016My son's nexus started rebooting on its own here and there a little less than a month ago. Last week it started boot looping. I would have to turn it off(only worked sometimes by going into fastboot mode). Tried resetting and wiping in recovery with no luck. This problem gets worse when it's plugged up to a computer the phone turns into a reboot machine. I read up it could be the power button and took it apart to find the button works fine (still cleaned out though).

I've tried restoring it as a new phone and backing it up and I've even removed all my apps and cleared it. And it also keeps looping the start up screen and ocasionally enters the recovery mode screen.Will Apple will replace it?? even though I still pay the bill, it was given to me, I didn't purchase it, does that matter?

Feb 16, 2010i have my bold for about 3-4 days now and for some reason it keeps restarting on me, and its at the most random times, when i load google maps, stream a Internet video, or pandora, it even did it just now when i plugged it into the charger. my carrier is t-mobile and im using the default os, ive considered upgrading it, and if i need to return it i can just down grade right? or should i just take it back and exchange it for another? it also has a slightly creaky trackpad but it doesnt bother me at all, so i wouldnt mind taking back, just worried about getting an even more fucked up one.

Google Nexus 6 :: Why Can't Connect To Camera
Jul 21, 2015Error occurs when I try to switch to panoramic camera mode. To recover camera after that I clear cache and data and reboot phone, then I can use the front and rear facing cameras in snapshot mode.
The error also occurs running other apps such as my bank's app to take a photo of a check to deposit. In that case I need to reboot phone to stop the continuous error message "Cannot connect to camera".
I've had a previous issue where my Nexus 6 would not connect to the camera at all even in snapshot mode, but after a couple of factory resets and a few days, the camera worked again, but apparently not in panoramic mode.
Since the camera works at least in in snapshot mode, I'm wondering if this is software or if it is a hardware issue. Phone is still under 1 year factory warranty.

The responses I get are always " the Lexus?? ", "is that better than the galaxy" "is it made by Samsung", " how many megapixels is the camera"
Once a while I get a customer that has a nexus or knows all about it..those customers always have my full respect! But its funny that most people think galaxy is android.

Feb 19, 2015My issue is that when I take a photo on my Nexus 5 and it is under around 60% of battery it shuts down, the screen just goes black (phone is complexly off and dead) and the device will not respond to ANY input until it is plugged into a power source, then it will boot up and function normally.
This issue occurred about two weeks after I installed Android 5 however I do not believe it is related due to factory resets, different roms and the issue is still persisting. When the problem started I had recently (a week or so before) moved to Germany, my initial thoughts were that the battery was the problem as when it first happened the phone rebooted and only had 5% left even though the device had around 50% before I took the photo, from then on the battery life was terrible so I purchased a new battery and installed it.
The battery problem was solved (battery life was normal) and when the phone crashed it didn't boot up with any difference to the percentage of battery that was remaining. I am now thinking that something to do with the change in power supplies damaged the device. I think this is unlikely though as Australia (where I am from) and Germany (where I was when the issue started) both run on 240V, the stock power adapter was used just with a euro adapter. I have tried to collect logcats however I can't see any errors before it cuts off (I'm no dev by any means so I could be missing something)...
Last thing is that this issue NEVER occurs when the device is charging so I'm thinking that it is a hardware problem. And of course the phone is out of warranty.
