Galaxy S5 :: How To Hide Text Message Preview While Using The Phone
Jun 17, 2015
I am using Galaxy S5, andriod 5.0. How to hide the message content in the notification bar when i am using the phone? Let the notification bar just show "1 new message"?
I have looked everywhere for how to hide text message preview and make it only say "new text message". I am coming from a galaxy s4 and this is how I had it set up I was just wondering if it is possible now. I am also trying to this with having to have a password or pattern on my lock screen if that makes a difference.
how to I hide the message preview that shows up in the status bar when a text comes in? I have already been to the notifications settings in the factory widget app I'm using and turned off "display notifications in status". However this seems to not show ANY notification in the status bar that there is an unopened text waiting. To clarify, what I'd like is to see that the notification that a text came in, i just don't want the scrolling preview to be seen when it comes in.
I don't want my texts to show the content on any screen. It seems the only way to stop this is by turning off notifications. Is there a way to change it to just say New Message?
When I click from either the "Notification" screen, or the Text Message List, I am directed to the wrong text messaging thread. This doesn't happen every time, it happens every day, and multiple times, however. Usually, when I reboot the phone, the problem is gone...momentarily.
It seems to happen with random messages. I use Universal Inbox and currently see message from text, Facebook, Twitter, Gmail and my AT&T mail.
If I use the stock Text Messaging app, I can open the list of messages and see whatever I can from the preview there, but when I click to open the thread, it will open a totally random message thread. Weird. I'm not that into text messaging, but it does annoy me when I need to use it and I can't open individual messages because the wrong ones are appearing.
I don't know if this is a device problem, a software/app problem, an AT&T messaging problem or what. I'm somewhat ignorant about smartphones and have only had this Atrix 2 for about three months.
HTC ONE. With the Stock Messaging app on the phone, I like it and all but I have a small gripe about it. I don't get message previews on the lock screen when I get a message. Yes I know, maybe it's disabled to save on battery life, but battery life is not an issue for me on this phone. Anyways, the only way I can get a message preview on lock screen is if I use CHOMP SMS messaging app. I dont like it, I prefer the stock one, but I leave it on so that I can get previews on my lock screen. Any way to maybe Enable the feature so that I can see a preview of my text on the lock screen?
trying to shut off the text message preview. Under Settings - General - their is no longer a "Notifications" tab.. it's gone ?
#2 - is their a way to shut off text messages.. My work send out text messages at all hours of the night, and I would like to disable all incoming texts at night?
I have saw several posts on people wanting the message preview to just say new message or just the senders name,i figured out how to get it to just say new message!!!
I set my security up last night to recognize my fingerprint, when i did that there is a option in there for you to click that it "hides content" when you click this,it just shows "New message" on your lock screen.
Is there a way to turn off the message preview feature? I really like using the stock messaging app, but on Textra you can have it where a pop up comes up with only the senders name. Is this an option for the stock app?
Been with nokia (symbian) for years and years. just made the switch to android and having a few issues. Galaxy s6 edge.
my old nokia n8, I could choose to receive notification that only showed the contacts name and let me know I had a message from them. Is this possible on the s6? I do not want the message preview on my screen so that everyone can see the message. I just want the contacts name only.
So i did the Lollipop update yesterday on my Galaxy S5 and when i get a text message i no longer get a Preview on the lock screen or a popup once unlocked . I've checked on Messages/settings/Notifications that the Popup Display and Preview message are both checked . Also when i get a message and i push the power button there isn't an envelop symbol top left of the screen just the blue led thats flashes .
A friend of mine has a Galexy S5 and uses BBM and now for some reason she is getting BBM Instant Previews at the top of her screen and she wants it turned off!
So I have a Samsung S6 Galaxy through Verizon. I also use the Message+ stock app that Verizon has placed on the phone.
My lock screen is disabled through a 3rd party app (No Lock), so when I previously received a text message, my screen would awaken, and a preview of said text message would show up in the status bar.
Now i had to reset my phone, and upon resetting, my phone will still show the blinking LED light, and make the sound associated with receiving a text message. However the screen no longer lights up, so now if i want to read the test message int the status bar, I have to hit the power button to light up my phone. Very annoying.
I have went through the settings where there used to be a checkbox that said "show preview in status bar and lock screen", but that selection no longer seems to be there. I will also say that if my screen is already awake (either if i'm currently using the phone, or the screen hasn't turned off yet), the preview of the text message DOES show up in the status bar.
I will use another app that just awakes my phone when a notification is received...but i don't want something that has pop-ups, widgets, and the like. I really just want my phone to awaken as it did prior due to the reset, without (seeing at least) any add-on's, etc.
Samsung has changed the settings in Galaxy S2 so it is no more possible to simply say: [Settings] > [Call settings] > [All calls] > [Show my number] > [Hide] This option does no longer exist that simple. Has anyone found out where Samsung has hidden this functionality so I can choose to hide my phone number. ?
I wonder why Samsung has chosen to make that so complicated
The mms message is lengthy and the entire text is not displayed. It shows "more" in the bottom rh corner of the text but can't figure out. how to get the rest of the text to show.
I'e had an iphone before but my new one doesnt give me the option to turn off message previews. I know before it was settings-messages-show preview off but my new iphone 4 doesn't give me that option how can I turn off message preview!!
I have just got a new bb torch as I lost my old one and on this new phone when I receive a text message and click on the icon I am now getting a preview of the message in the notification bar.Can some please tell me how to turn this off so that it just shows who the message is from? This was not happening on my previous phone, is this something to do with the new software update?
Whenever my screen is on and I get a new message through Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp, my phone shows a partial message pop-up at the top of the screen. Tapping it doesn't open the message or the application, it just takes up screen space. What am I doing wrong? How do I disable this?
