Galaxy S5 :: Google Voice Search - Never Connects To Internet For Answers
Feb 20, 2015
Working on Lollipop Verizon GS-5. It starts ok, - - ok Google awakens service - - hears normally but never connects to Internet for answers & no talk back.
I got my Xperia Z2 today, and I found that teh Google Now voice option doesn"t work, It looks like it's recording, even when there's no sound at all. It completely ignores me when I speak. There is no relation to my speech and the red indicator flashing. Then it goes back to "Say "Ok Google" or tap mic". In fact other voice functions such as in the google play store, or google maps, or google voice typing don't work and exhibit the same bizarre behavior. Just to find out, I tried voice functions on a third party keyboard app (Swype) which doesn't seem to work too.
I have done a factory reset, updated to the latest firmware, updated the apps, but still the problem persists. I suspect the hardware is to blame, not the software.
This is for a 32GB One, (AT&T carrier). I use the phone to listen to music on a motorcycle, specifically to stream Pandora and I plug the phone into the sound system of the bike. Not sure how important it is but the only time this happens is when it is plugged into the bike so it seems odd that Voice search would do anything- I assumed the built in mic would be inactive since the phone thinks it is connected to a headset but I haven't tested that (just a thought).
The problem is that the phone will launch Google's voice-driven search application for no apparent reason. I have tried turning Google Now off and went into the "Voice" settings and disabled hotword detection but the app still randomly launches.
When the app self launches, the phone goes nuts cutting out Pandora, tries to dial various numbers (but typically is a re-dial of the last number). I am too new to Android to realize what is launching this and can't figure out how to kill or disable Voice Search. I have tried going to Settings-->Apps and all apps but I could not specifically find the Voice Search app.
The Google search widget isnt working as well as holding the home button to open now. I type in my search, get the loading icon, it disappears like it's done loading but it's blank. No error messages. Can't find any "google now" or "Google search" in app manager.
A few days ago my Galaxy S6 started only doing a Web search when I would ask questions. In the past I would get the little cards with info on drive time or sports scores. Now all it will do is conduct Web search and bring up a list of sites. What I can do to fix this so I get the info cards again?
I am having with the Google search bar on my home screen? Before I installed lollipop I was able to go into the settings on Google and just clear the search history on the search bar. However since installing lollipop I can no longer use the same method and am forced to clear each search subject individually.
I install an app on the playstore for remote control of kodi on my htpc computer , after uninstalling it , noticed when I long press and hold my home button It no longer opens up voice search, it opens google now cards page I then have to click on the mic button at the top to perform a voice search.
Is there a way to reset this ? , I uninstalled updates on google app cleared data ect , now when I press and hold my home button I only get these 2 options.
If I select "google" it opens google now page (same way as above)
Looking for a way tog et pack the long press home button and you can instantly start talking to the google voice .
My Google search widget disappeared from my home screen. Long pressing on the home screen just puts a rectangle around the screen and brings up the delete option.
I've already tried deleting history/cache/cookies and also tried disabling cookies/suggest search terms and urls. As soon as I even type a letter, at least one of the 3 links shows in the search bar.
When I press microphone to do google search on home page--sometimes 10 second delay.
On S6 I notice whether at home with wifi or out with only cell data, that when I press the mic icon to do a google voice search I will see a white screen for up to 10+ seconds until the word "Listening" pops up.
It is as if it cannot connect to the service to perform the voice search immediately. Once it does connect, I can perform a web voice search with absolutely no delay...
Under running apps, Google App is of course running. I did disable these apps but not sure any would make a difference-except perhaps Cloud???
Note: I am not syncing Gmail or using a Google Email account for contacts, email, etc..

Sometimes when i click microphone on google search, i get "Can't open microphone" error. First i tought it's about google app but it is not. When i tried to call a friend on Viber he couldn't hear me and i realized it is about all applications which uses internet. To be sure, then, i tried to record voice on Facebook Messenger, microphone didn't work.On skype didn't work.
Then,i called somebody on gsm network, microphone worked. I tried to record my voice on local application, microphone worked.Again, i tried all applications which uses internet, no luck.
After some minutes microphone acts normally.I mean it works everywhere. I couldn't understand when it works normally or according to what.
When i have this case, killing all apps and reboot phone not working.
Oddity is that my friend had Sony Z3, she has same issue.Microphone sometimes works sometimes doesn't work. So, i started think that maybe one app that we both have, always occupy the microphone and doesn't let another applications to use it. But why i can make calls on gsm network or record voice on local apps. Maybe they have higher priority on using microphone(?).
It sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. Now, i did a list of apps which uses microphone and i will try to delete or force stop one by one when i have this issue.
Another friend who has Sony Z3 has exactly same issue. So far, 1xGalaxy S6, 2xSony Z3
So I woke up this morning and noticed the Google search widget had changed itself from a smoke colored transparent look to a solid white look. I've done nothing that would alter this and I don't even think it can be changed by the user.Did it update itself and this is part of the update?
I didn't think I'd want the google search bar w/ voice on my home screen (the widget), so I removed it, figuring a small icon was enough and that I could always add it back later. Now that I decided I do want it after all, I can't find it anywhere; seems it would be under widgets, but not that I can see. Where I can find it?
Today when I opened my phone the standard internet search bar on my start page was gone and I checked the "add widget" thing and it was not there to add... How do I get the search bar back on my start screen?
When I do a search on my Samsung Galaxy S5 it shows up on my search history on my Tablet. Since I share my Tablet at home I don't necessarily want what I search on my phone to show up on my tablet.
How to use Google Voice as my default SMS app. My Note 3 and every other phone I've used in the past few years has all had this as an option. I don't really want to use hangouts as it's just not really setup as a SMS app yet. For now I'm using Hangouts but I'm not that happy about it.
Since Maps 9.2, Google maps integrated voice commands into navigation. So you can ask "are we there yet" or make a call. When I press the mic button during navigation, voice gallery pops up.
Periodically I use Google Voice on the stock keyboard to text. However I noticed when I try to exit Google Voice by clicking the "X" the application freezes and I can't exit until it times out.
I am getting used to my s6. Sometimes I am driving and there could be an accident and I need to try and grab my phone and put it in the phone holder in my car then navigate to google maps to find an alternate route by hand. I am wondering if I could make this easier by doing some of this with my voice. I know it is possible to search a specific place after pressing the voice icon manually after launching google maps, but is there a way so I can just put the phone in the car holder then use my voice to launch maps and say what my destination is?
I have an AT&T S5. I also have a Google voice phone number. When people call my actual phone they get the voicemail for Google voice. How can I fix it so that when my ATT number is called they get my voicemail and when my Google voice number is called they get my voicemail for that?
I wanted to send a text, but didn't want to use my actual number. I read that Google Voice can do this. I downloaded the app, but can't see anywhere in the app that allow me to text, or do anything really. How to use Google Voice?
I am using a Verizon Galaxy S6 and have been using Google Voice for voicemails. Recently, I discovered that sometimes my voicemails come through several hours after the call. This does not happen all of the time, but it does happen some. It is also pretty inconvenient. I do not want to go into the app and press refresh after missing a call, just to see if I have a voicemail. I did not have this issue with my Galaxy S3 or Moto X. Also, I have the sync, notification, etc settings all good to go.
When I get into the car, I sometimes plug the S5 into my car stereo's aux input via a 3.5mm audio cable. I can play anything just fine(streaming music or MP3/FLAC/WAV files stored on the phone). When I'm listening to the car stereo itself(CD, FM/AM, etc), I usually leave the phone plugged in. If I want to use Google Maps voice navigation, I'll have to physically disconnect the 3.5m audio cable if I want to hear the voice navigation on my phone. (again, this is when I'm only playing a CD on the car stereo)Is there a way to get around this so that I don't have to plug/unplug in the aux input cable all the time?
