I recently updated my Verizon BB Tour 9630 to OS v 5.0.0.591. Ever since the upgrade I cannot put my phone into Standby Mode. The mute buttom works when on a call, just not to put the pgone into Standby Mode anymore.
View 28 RepliesHere's the results of my 5.0 OS upgrade using the recently released Sprint package:
1. Phone boot time, from battery out to usable (home screen icons displayed, etc): 3 minutes, 15 seconds! YES!!!
2. Threaded SMS messaging is nice!
3. Phone doesn't feel any "faster".
4. Being able to set the phone to automatically adjust for time zones is nice--I don't recall that being an option before and has always bugged me.
5. QuickPull Free didn't work at first. Had to be uninstalled and reinstalled.
6. Standby button no longer putting phone into standby.Still works for mute/unmute though.
Of all of these, item #6 is the only one that bugs me a bit.I think the standby operation still works in general, as when I put it into the holster, the screen did turn off, but I don't use the holster and usually "lock" the phone by holding down the mute button to go into standby.
So, does anyone know if the Lock button does pretty much the same thing as Standby, or is there really a big savings in battery life by going into standby mode? As long as battery life isn't too adversely affected, I'm pretty sure that I'll stick with this release. Hopefully the next OS upgrade will restore the button... unless someone here knows how to fix the issue now!
I just upgraded from my old Curve 8330 to the Tour 9630, both on Verizon, and I couldn't be happier with my new device -- except for one thing. The Curve had a great "standby" function I could use at night, in which the phone would lock its keyboard and effectively shut down, but still be able to receive calls if one came in. This also saved lots of battery power. After hours' worth of mashing the top "lock" and "mute" buttons on the Tour, and searching through the internal menus, I can't seem to find a similar mode on my new phone.
First: If there's a thread about this already somewhere else, I beg your pardon; I'd be grateful for a link and I'll be on my way there. But if not, does anybody know whether some devices just do not have a standby mode anymore as part of OS 5, or whether there might be something wrong with my phone because its mute key won't activate standby mode?
The key lock button the top left works, but, at least on my Curve, the key lock and standby were two very different things -- I'd lock the keyboard when I put the phone in my pocket, but I'd put it on standby before bed every night. Does key-lock mode on the Tour replace standby?
I went to 5.0.0.732 and now I dont have the standby button. Is there an app that can enable it again? I miss my standby...

Or any free apps to make it do this? Or is the pay one worth it?is there a way to be able to text more then a 160 characters?

I had an origiinal tour from pre release in july 09. its been awsome ever since then. but the trackball has been crapping out lately. and vzw has sent me a replacement. well its trackball was worse lol. so i sent it back. anouther one came. and the standby button didnt click like my original one and like my storm standby and mute key they clicked too. 3rd one came today it dont click. you basically dont even know ur pushing it.
so my questions for you guys are.... when u press ur stanby button does it click or no? do u just know ur pushing it cause ur putting force on it? or does it click. please let me know, my vzw rep is following up with me tues @ 8pm est to check up on me and decide what we are going to do. any and all feedback is greatly appreceated. and this one came in a vzw certified replacement box the other ones came inside a brown box that had a plastic peice on them to snug the phone in it.
so does ur standby/mute key click? does the lock key click? thanks alot.
So the keypad lock on the top of the phone works but the standby button no longer does?

Will I be able to restore all my phone contacts, bbm contacts, pics, music, etc from the Curve to the Tour using that back up? Or are they not compatable?

I know it will not get OS 6 but maybe an OS 5 that everything works on instead of one thing working great on one but something else doesn't work at all then they send out a new one and the thing that was working good doesn't work so good anymore. Just would be nice to have an OS that everything works as intended on.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've been burning through Tours for the last six months. The first one I had worked fine until it just decided to stop taking all PIN messages of all kinds. I wasn't able to receive BBMs, PINs, and even certain types of E-mails. VZW customer service and RIM customer service weren't able to help me and I was lost. So VZW sent me a refurbished Tour. I wasn't happy with it since I had paid for a brand new one, but a refurbished BlackBerry is better than a broken one any day.
So, anyway, I have been using this refurb for a while until, just the other day, the earpiece didn't want to work. The microphone worked, but I just couldn't hear the other party. If I put it on speakerphone I was able to hear, but no earpiece. BlueTooth worked too, but not the earpiece. I tried everything and finally worked it into being a hardware thing. So I took it to a corporate store where they did an in-store replacement with another refurb.
Now I'm on my third Tour and hopefully this one isn't such a problem. I'm about to upgrade it to the Incredible. I was able to play with that sucker while they tried to figure out the situation with how they would unlock my new phone, and I have to say that I like it. Maybe, in a month when my upgrade is available, I will ditch the Tour and pull an Incredible Storm2. Sounds catchy, no?
Just switched from the 8330 to the 9630 TOUR! I want to know if there is a way to upgrade the software without using the desktop manager? any help would be great!

However, this morning I pulled the battery as an attempt to clear it and see if it would run smoother but that plan backfired on me. The phone boots up but it gets stuck on the Verizon Wireless logo screen.Not sure what to do at this point? I think when I upgraded the desktop manager backed everything up. Will verizon correct this for me?

View 11 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my wife's OS on her VZW Tour to the latest official release. Since then she has been having problems with her work email.
She is on BIS but has her blackberry account set up with her company's Exchange server. Until the upgrade everything was fine. Now, however, most if not all of her work emails are arriving blank. All her other email accounts come through fine. If she forwards the work emails to another account they read fine. If she even forwards the work email back to her blackberry from the same email account the text of the email will appear as well. These are all internal emails within the company. Not HTML based. Text and possibly an attachment (attachments show up fine). I have checked her settings and nothing has changed. I am curious as to whether or not her employers email server may not be compatible with the new OS.
I am a little perplexed and cannot figure out what the deal is.
I'm having an issue with my Tour 9630.Upgraded to 5.0 and no Memo or Task apps. Tried everything. Seems odd that BlackBerry wouldn't auto load these apps and allow the user to delete themselves. I'm getting tired of the deleting, reloading, searching, etc.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI like the bedside mode. Recharges and gives me an alarm clock as a bonus! But, since I upgraded to the official Verizon 4.7.1.61 version it only works sometimes. It goes to the clock face and dims when I insert the Blackberry in the stand but most of the time it is on the home screen in the morning. Also, sometimes the settings I have given for the bedside (no alarms) have been reset to normal when I leave the bedside mode and sometimes they are not.

When I went to plug it into my computer yesterday to back up my info, etc. it prompted me to upgrade to 5.0.0.484 from 4.7 (I believe.)Question - after I upgraded, the lock device feature went away. I usually use the left convenience key to lock it. However, the icon is no longer there and I no longer have the option available in the keyboard/screen section. PLEASE HELP! View 4 Replies View RelatedI hate my clock radio on my night stand. The only thing it gets used for now, is occasionally playing some music before I go to sleep. Does anything exist that would let me play music for some period of time (15, 20, 30 minutes, etc) then automagically shut off? Similar to a sleep mode on my radio. I would love to see this feature in Slacker, but I either can't find it or it hasn't been pushed from feature request to real feature.
