BB Torch :: Physical Keyboard Doesnt Work On 9800?
Mar 14, 2012
I have a 9800 torch 4 gb black , i got it from a friend with a smashed screen and digitizer , i changed both of them but the keyboard doesnt work , i changed to a new keyboard and still the same problem , all the other buttons work but the physical keyboard , it lights up when i turn the blackberry on .i made a hard reset , changed the os but still same probem .
I got a new BB Torch 9800 a few days ago and the physical keyboard won;t work (and has never worked) when I slide it out. Does anyone know if there is a setting somewhere I need to activate, or is this likely to be a device fault? (By the way, I downloaded the latest software update and rebooted and took out the battery etc...) Everything else seems to work fine.
My BB Torch keyboard suddenly stopped working and cannot even input the password to unblock. I found out after several trials (don't ask me how many) that if I slided open and closed 2 times and then I press twice the "alt" button the keyboard starts working. Also the side button that I had for the camera is not working. Digital keyboard works fine. When the keyboard does not work, the outside keys (call, back, BB, touch pad, hang up) do not work either..
Last night, suddenly my keyboard, trackpad and all my external buttons no longer work. Only my touch screen works, but no back button, a BlackBerry is not very useful. It may be software, but I updated yesterday the operating system. But I find it strange that all the external buttons do not work together. What could be the problem. If I have to go to the workshop, I want to know as much as possible.BlackBerry 9800
My Torch is only 2 months old, a few days back all physical keys went dead, - all in the slideout keyboard and all 5 keys at the bottom of the screen and lock button. The scroll function of the middle key however is available at all times as well as function of the side buttons on the right of the touch screen.
Also, ever since that problem started, whenever i punch a text and stop in the middle/end of a word and try to scroll the cursor back, it wouldnt move, instead it starts changing the letter last before the cursor - i.e., makes it capital or replaces it with a symbol.
The problem used to be fixed with a battery pull, but how many times in a day one can do that? But today it got worse - even after a battery pull it hanged again in 2 minutes.
I did a search in the forum for info about this, but didn't find anything. I'm wondering why you can't locks caps or numbers with the physical keyboard like you can with the virtual keyboard on the Torch? This as to be near the top of my list of most frustrating and counfounding 'features' of the Torch that drives me nuts on a daily basis. Is there any software update available that can make the physical keyboard work the same way as the virtual keyboard when it comes to locking caps and numbers?
I am just curious how many Torch users are using the touch screen keyboard to type out messages/emails vs the physical QWERTY? Personally I am trying to use the touchscreen to get super fast @ it. It's tricky at first but I am mastering it quickly!
As an avid business crackberry fan (and business manager) for over 3 years, I was appalled to find that I would need to slide the keyboard out to enter my security code, especially when I would do it 50-100 times per day. As every other touchscreen phone on the market has a pattern unlock method, this is the single issue preventing from purchasing this phone(s) PLEASE ISSUE AN UPDATE/APP/PATCH anything to bring this vital security & efficiency issue up to par.
Just got my torch last night! yayyy! I did read in one of the threads there is a way to bring the virtual keyboard down by swiping up and down (I think). But when I do that, I always open the manage connections option. Can someone explain how to get it to show wo opening the physical keyboard?
this is my 2nd Torch my first Torch touchscreen stoppeed working and ATT sent me another.now this Torch touchscreen stopped working, so far I did a reboot hard and soft now I may do a factory reset or downgrade..
Im beginning to think Torch is junk..Seen God 7/11/1995. I met Satan 6/2008 and in 2009... I was c r u c i f i e d by Spirits..
I am wanting to jump on the Android bandwagon but was holding out due to the lack of a physical keyboard. I am on AT&T right now and have a Palm 680 - waiting for the Palm Pre to be released but it keeps being rumoured to be delayed.I know the Dream from Rogers can be unlocked to use on AT&T's 3G bands but that due to internal memory issues it can't be upgraded to new OS. But it seems to be the best alternative for my needs at this time.
Anyone have this phone and using it on AT&T? Any other ideas on what I should get given my requirements? Thanks in advance for any help on the matter
I have a Xperia pro (MK16a) So when you're entering text, if you hold down on the screen, you have the option to choose Japanese input and Chinese input. And when you choose Japanese input, you can also open up the setting menu, and inside the menu there are options for physical keyboard, and vitural keyboard. Although Chinese input does not have those settings, but surprisingly I CAN use Chinese input with my physical slide out keybaord. BUT, it is NOT the case with Japanese input. Please give me some guidence on how this works, is it a BUG or something? Because clearly it SUPPOSE to have the option to use my slideout keyboard for Japanese input.
I love my phone but for some reason the white light and the predictive text on longer work whenever I use the physical keyboard. I know I have done soemthing but I have no idea what
My phone is not recognizing when I open the physical keyboard. I do not ever use the soft keyboard and it used to be the case that I would never see the soft keyboard as long as I had the keyboard tray open. But lately, I cannot make the soft keyboard go away. I have not upgraded to ICS or made any other changes to the settings.
The letter 'i' appears without a dot each time I type it in email, messenger and text messaging. As a result, I cannot send emails as the recipient address is not recognised.
I have rebooted several times and restored to an earlier date when I didn't have this problem, but to no avail.
I have a bb torch 9800 .my keyboard doesn't work anymore.that means I can't answer any call,I can't login or logout any application.I have alwas to take off my batterie to log out and when I swicth on my phone;it takes my even one day to unlock my pin(because the keyboard doesn't work). But my sceen works and the problem is I can't use the main keys on the middle(the mouse).
when typing with the physical keyboard, the Z and the Y is changed. So the Y is next to the U and the Z is next to the X. How can I change this? I want to have it the other way around.
I recently bought a Xperia Mini Pro and updated today to ICS 4.0.4. I updated using PCC and then did a repair also using SUS. [No Flashing] Everything went fine except the physical keyboard settings I guess. Because after updating, when I started typing using the physical keyboard, the key wasn't matching. I mean, I typed something and something else appears.
the keyboard won't work at all in the OS. Still when the device is turned off, and i press Up (on keypad) + Power it goes to bootloader, therefore the physical keyboard seems fine. Nonetheless it would not work in the recovery, so i cant use d-pad to update.zip root and other stuffs?
I have been keeping recommending iPhone 4 to my girlfriend, who is going to get her Master degree from Columbia Univ and step into business world. And she said, "wow, it looks wonderful but too naive/childish for me".
And then I bought her the iPod Touch, just for casual use. (I would make Torch a great surprise since she always wants a Blackberry. Samsung sucks btw, we have had 3 Samsung phones and they are all crap - hardware-wise).
I love iPhone, but I could not live without a keyboard phone. Sorry Droid and iPhone fanboys, touchscreen just sucks for business users/ users mainly do texing and little cell-photo-taking.
If you are not a college boy, and you are a real businessman, I bet you would be as busy as me so 40% of your time is for emails/texting/notepad/calendar, 30% for phone calls, 20% or less for web browsing, and 10% for enjoying music when driving (or on subways while reading newspapers) and other multimedia functions.
And seriously, I only use my phone to take pictures of notes on whiteboard or product labels when I don't have a camera at hand. And if you really like taking photos, DSLR would do you good.
Do you really need a 800x600 display for texting?phone calls?. And how much do you rely on web browsing by cell phone? It's just for checking some information when you are outside.
Let's see what Torch does best from all kinds of reviews: Gizmo, Engadget, BGR, Crackberry.... 1). Top notch keyboard - good for 40% of time texting/emails/notepad/calendar 2). Great call quality - good for another 30% of time, and no drop calls/death grips 3). WebKit Browser - enough for 20% of time web browsing - after all we all own laptops (you don't have one?) 4). Improved media experience - I am ok with just listening to music. I seldom watch videos on handheld devices - only nerds do it often.
Hence, the bottom line: is there any other good keyboard phone out there? (with a touch screen and not as ugly/huge as Droid)?
=) CPU is fine, Screen resolution is fine (I am really ok with texting and managing my business life with Bold's screen resolution). After all, do you really spend 80% of your time on cell phone while you have friends and can do all the things on a computer?
I was using the full on screen keyboard and actually getting use to it, lot's of mistakes made but I was still going with the flow. I read a post yesterday that suggested switching to the Reduced Keyboard.
It made all the difference, I type a million times faster!!!! No need for the slider keyboard.I recommend to everyone out there, at least give it a shot and see the difference if you aren't already doing it.
Recently my 9800 torch keyboard has stopped working it hasnt been exposed to water or anything. The touch screen is fine no problems at all i presumed that it had broken and that was that...then one morning my screen flashed black l(like it had been locked) and the keyboard started working then after 5 mins it stopped. This has happened for the past 3 mornings now so i thought it could poss be a software issue. I have rebooted my phone (bat pull) done a full wipe of everything and still no joy
My device version is v6.0.0.246 bundle 695 it says it is the latest software
I have had a torch since October 2010 and just in the last 2 days it has stopped responding when using the keyboard or buttons.
When I pull the battery and reboot, I can use the touch screen to unlock, and then can go in to any item. Example: open text, can scroll and find a test to view, tap it and open. I can then reply, forward delete with the screen options but once that is done I am now stuck in the text message. My only option is to pull the battery.
I can not make phone calls but can answer by sliding up the screen. When call is done I can not end just have to wait for other person to hang up.
I have checked for Water damage and there is none, the phone has not had a hard drop and the to sides are very solid (not loose).
Physical keyboard lights are not working when display is fully up. Keyboard lights work only when display is halfway up. Lights go off just a millimeter before when display reach it top position. Can anyone suggest is this a software issue or there is something physically wrong with phone (slider-switch is slightly misplaced or broken)?
