BB Storm2 9550/9520 :: Need To Manually Change From Hotspot Browser?
Mar 8, 2010
I recently installed Tank's Act 2 .497 Hybrid (which is awesome) on my 9550. Previously, I had only been running the stock OS 5.0.0.320 on my device. I actually searched quite a bit, but found no problems that were quite the same as what I'm experiencing. I had posted this same issue on page 17 of Tank's thread, but decided to start a new thread just to be able to reach more of the masses, as I'm not sure if this issue is specific to Tank's hybrid or not.
Everything works great, with one lone exception--I have my default browser set to "hotspot" as I always have, and previously (using .320) if I was in an area with no WIFI signal, the browser would just automatically switch over to the Internet browser and load my pages just fine. Now, however, if I have no WIFI signal, I get a "This is a WIFI service. Please ensure your device has an active WIFI connection and try again." message, forcing me to go into the browser settings and manually change the browser from "hotspot" to "Internet".Is this normal (for any OS version)? Is there some setting somewhere I'm missing? Seems to be a bit of a pain, just to take advantage of WIFI, to have to set this manually all the time.
*Also, as much as I appreciate the help, I'm not looking for "Use Opera Mini! It PWNS the BB Browser!!!1!". Yeah, I know there are other browsers out there, some with great features (and speeds), but I'm just trying to figure out this issue with the BB Browser.
I just went thru the settings once again and the browser option shows only hotspot browser.phone : storm 2 9550.How do i get the WAP browser or whatever it is called.
I read that Opera Mini was much faster browsing internet comparing to the default bb browser.i run opera mini Beta 5.2 but is by far more slow that browsing with the BB default internet browser...Which is the best and faster internet browser for BB storm2 - 9520??i´m running the .497
i have the storm 2, and a friend of mine have a ipod, he seem to be able to view all the flash animations on a website, while i cant on my storm 2, why is this and how do i solve it?
Ok my browser has been lagging and stuck on "requesting" for a while before the page loads. Is there any tweaks I can do to my browser in the options to speed up my browser...
My BB browser home page currently defaults to a T-Mobile web'n'walk page. no matter what I set in the options, it is overridden when the page loads. I don't actually use it as my browser, but I do have a couple of launchers that require the default browser and when launched, they also end up being overridden and defaulting to this annoying home page, making any launchers completely useless.
I have a storm 2 I updated the the OS on the phone and now the browser not loading at all. Neither when I open the BBM the pin is not showing in there just have null. what have I done and how can it be rectify...ASAP..
I so love Opera now and the speed is amazing. Is there anyway to make it my default browser? When I click a link in an email it opens up the incredibly slow native BB browser. When I go into settings, the only choices are internet browser and hotspot browser.
Instead of manually selecting Options, Cache Operations, and Clear History when in the browser is there not a program or option I have overlooked to automatically clear this data? The whole cleaning option does not to my knowledge.
I m starting to use my S2 more and more and Im trying to find a browser thats fast and user/eye friendly. The native browser is slow and annoying.I installed Opera but I have this annoying floating bar in the middle of the page that I can't get rid of but it doesn't let me view the page.I installed Bolt but its not accurate on the clicks but I will say its very fast.
I'd like some opinions specifically from storm2 owners as to 1) which browser is the fastest?
2) which browser do you like the best?
I've read on the forums that the new bolt browser is the fastest but personally I'm not sure. I'd like to know from s2 owners so that all other different factors between different models of BB phones are held constant.
Whether it was my recent os upgrade to 517 or the new BIS 3.0, but something amazing has happened to my native browser. It went from being frustratingly slow and almost unusable to lightning fast! Its so different I have been thinking of it as a whole new app.I used to use Opera Mini exclusively, and had even gone as far as to "hide" the icon for the bb browser, but that has all changed. I haven't even booted up OM in a couple of days. Has any one else noticed this incredible change? Is it the new BIS or was my it 517 upgrade? Most pages now load in less than 3 seconds!
Yesterday, I went into view folder to clean out phone logs. I don't know why, but I had 9 sets of duplicate folders. I hooked up to Desktop Manager and went into Advanced under Backup and Restore. Once there, I cleared the file database- file problem solved. I happened to see a file in the same list called Browser cache that was several megs big. That was strange because I always clear my cache. I cleared that file as well. On startup this morning the phone was under 30 seconds to come up. Browser speed is also at least 2x faster than it was and holding strong at that increase. Not sure what those files had to do with anything other than the obvious but I am very impressed with the results.
Loaded the OS did a wipe re-loaded the OS again still websites takes forever to load even app world download is much slower now. Thinking to go back to 617?
The native browser on my 9550 won't load anything...not my home page...NOTHING! I open up the browser and the blue progress bar along the bottom of the screen just creeps and creeps for hours (blank white screen). The only thing I have changed is I downloaded the Reuters app around the same time the problem started.
So mobihand denied my request for PIN change. I only had a total of 1 or 2 pin request change in the past.So how am I suppose to use berryweather, a app I paid for if they won't let me change my pin.
I'm going to give them h*ll. And if they don't change it soon then I will do a bank chargeback in the apps I bought.
I just got this phone a couple days ago. My provider is O2de, and I have an unlimited data plan (that I verified was working when I couldn't get my browser to work) and I even pay €5 a month just because my phone is a BB. But when I try to get on the internet it says " your device does not currently have any Browser Configuration Service Book Entries. Please contact your service provider to enable the browser on your device".
I went and asked the next day, but they said everything is good on their end, and its a problem with my phone. Anyone have any idea of how to fix this? I cant send MMS because I don't have an email account registered because i cant do it without internet. Its really limiting what i can do with my phone.
Been a bb user since the s1 and love the s2. Granted the os needds work, but the device feels solid and the productivity on the device seems to be second to none..is this incredible worthit? i had a droid and actually sold it online and kept my s2 instead. I remember thinking that many apps and games for the droid are pretty silly..unless things have chanced..
are there many "good" games for the droid?not sure if the quality control is there for the droid considering its open source..I use my bb for email and voice dialing which is critical. which do you think if a better device overall? speed aside?
I do feel that the s2;s screen is great..I love the clicking.. but im wondering if and when the s3 comes out, they will upgrade the horsepower..as I think that is one of the weak parts of the s2? or is it?does the processor in the s2 get blown away by this "snapdragon?"
Wish I could change my keyboard mode from "reduced" to "full" for password entry but can't figure out a way to do it. In options it is set to SureType and it comes up as SureType everywhere else except for password entry when it comes up as "reduced".
I have scrolled through the forums reading about both these phones and i have a few questions
1.What i am still unsure of is which phone is better suited to Canadian phone companies neither will get 3g coverage but will one work better than the other like will they both get 2.5g coverage?
2. Also i have read that possibly the 9520 will be comin to rogers but i havnt heard anything recent on it does anyone have news on a release date or anything?
3. Right now i am thinkin of buyin the storm 9550 from telus and either goin with fido or terminate my contract with them and stay with telus or move to rogers. Is there a company that is better suited to the storm 2 or will either giv me 2.5g?

I guinea pigged this, and can confirm it works...partially !!! Install .451, replace java folder with .497, then copy and paste .484 java over that... (NOTE: you may experience an app error reset, just let it reboot and you should be fine!)
For the past couple of days, I've been unable to use my BB's Browser or GPS functions. Whenever I try to connect to the BB Browser, I get a timeout error. None of my bookmarks are able to connect either. I've tried switching between the different settings in browser configuration settings (BIS, hotspot, wifi, IE, Firefox, etc) to no avail. I also have a wifi set up at home and even though it was working flawlessly a couple of days ago, it will no longer connect to any wifi. In addition, the GPS function is not working on any of the apps that use GPS (Both BB and Google maps, weatherbug, poynt).
Here's the kicker: Everything else is working great. I'm getting all of my emails from all of the emails I have configured with the device (my work email through the BES, forwarded from a comcast address, and from my *@vzw.blackberry.net address) and all of my apps seem to be working fine. I've got facebook, ubertwitter, ebay, weatherbug, poynt, and a couple of others and they're all able to update wirelessly.
I've tried going through a new enterprise activation, I've updated everything through the desktop manager, and I've re-registered the device on the network. I'm iffy on whether I've actually pushed all of the service books to the device again because I can't login here: https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=vzw. Whenever I try to, it tells me I have use my device's BIS. Well, that's my problem. I can't use my device's BIS. Also, I have one WiFi host routing table and about a hundred Verizon host routing tables. I'm not sure which ones I should delete, as I've read, in order to get it download a new one.
The only thing I've really noted that appears to be a problem is that when I go to Options -> Status, the device's IP Address is 0.0.0.0. I'm not sure if that is supposed to be like that or not. I know from regular internet usage on a desktop, if you don't have an ip address on the network, you can't get on the internet. Does that ring true for the BB as well?
I've been thinking of getting a Blackberry for quite some time now and decided to get the storm2 due to it's larger screen.I m located in Canada and using Fido (or Rogers). So I could get either one right? But why do I hear some rumors that 9550 is not so good on GSM as the 9520? Should I get 9550 or 9520? I wont be using the CDMA at all, but it seems that I could get 9550 a lot easier than 9520 in Canada.
For those checking to see if the 713 java works, the answer is yes. A raw drop of the .713 java on the 607 radio does work. No crashes yet but I'll let you know.
