BB Storm2 9550/9520 :: Map Rendering Speed On Phone Is Poor?
Jan 7, 2010While driving I like to use Google Map and Trapster to track my route, traffic and speed traps. As the apps track movement, I expected the maps to scroll smoothly. While occassionally I see a smooth transition, much of the time, there is a lengthy delay where a portion of the map is white, while it waits to draw the new area. Is this delay a result of the Storm 2 hardware, or is it associated with download/network speed as the device has to download a new map each time you travel to a new area? Sometimes it can take several minutes to redraw the new map-- so I'm thinking it may be related to network speed in different areas as you travel.

Jun 17, 2010Yesterday, I went into view folder to clean out phone logs. I don't know why, but I had 9 sets of duplicate folders. I hooked up to Desktop Manager and went into Advanced under Backup and Restore. Once there, I cleared the file database- file problem solved. I happened to see a file in the same list called Browser cache that was several megs big. That was strange because I always clear my cache. I cleared that file as well. On startup this morning the phone was under 30 seconds to come up. Browser speed is also at least 2x faster than it was and holding strong at that increase. Not sure what those files had to do with anything other than the obvious but I am very impressed with the results.

Apr 6, 2010Over the last 2 days i have noticed the processing speed of my storm2 decrease. What i mean by this is opening apps like fb, bbm, and music files takes a bit of time sometimes causing it to freeze momentarily. Also when i am typing a msg the screen freezes momentarily and i must wait for it to pass.
scrolling also on fb or while viewing a web page of even on bbm list lags and sometimes jumps up or down. I started to lag more after joining bbm grps could that be the cause of it? Is there anyway i can fix this and give my storm some more speed my app free space is 119.3mb my device memory free is 1.7gb
my media card free space is 13.3gb not sure if any of that matters but thought id list it to get a better idea of whats on my phone memory wise.
BB Storm2 9550/9520 :: Stop Sending/receiving Email On Poor Wi-Fi Connection
Sep 9, 2010'm having a weird issue happening in our Blackberry environment. Several of our users are reporting that when they leave for the day, their email do not populate until they return to the office the next morning. What I've gathered so far is, it seems like the device doesn't know when to switch back to 3G when the Wi-Fi connection we have here at work drops. In other words, the phone stops sending/receiving email because it no longer has a Wi-Fi connection but it never switches back to 3G. If I turn off the Wi-Fi on the problematic devices, they never have any of the problems mentioned above - but the uppers do not like that solution.

Aug 14, 2010My wife and I both have Storm2s which we are obviously running on Verizon Wireless.We have the same official operating system (.713) and each have some apps. I tend to have more apps so she actually has a little bit more memory.
Lately she's been complaining that her phone has been running really slow loading up websites. I did a little side-by-side test with our blackberries.
I did the same search on the google mobile app (for Adam Sandler) and clicked on the wikipedia link at the exact same time. Mine launched the browser, loaded the wiki page and was completely done before her browser even stopped showing the word "blackberry".
She also consistently has a lower quality signal (by using the Quick Launch "Device Info" option I can easily see signal strength on both of our phones).So, my question is, what is causing her blackberry to have a lower quality signal than mine when we are in the same exact location, on the same network, running the same O.S., etc.?

May 24, 2010My BB browser home page currently defaults to a T-Mobile web'n'walk page. no matter what I set in the options, it is overridden when the page loads. I don't actually use it as my browser, but I do have a couple of launchers that require the default browser and when launched, they also end up being overridden and defaulting to this annoying home page, making any launchers completely useless.

Apr 1, 2010Whether it was my recent os upgrade to 517 or the new BIS 3.0, but something amazing has happened to my native browser. It went from being frustratingly slow and almost unusable to lightning fast! Its so different I have been thinking of it as a whole new app.I used to use Opera Mini exclusively, and had even gone as far as to "hide" the icon for the bb browser, but that has all changed. I haven't even booted up OM in a couple of days. Has any one else noticed this incredible change? Is it the new BIS or was my it 517 upgrade? Most pages now load in less than 3 seconds!

Mar 8, 2010I recently installed Tank's Act 2 .497 Hybrid (which is awesome) on my 9550. Previously, I had only been running the stock OS 5.0.0.320 on my device. I actually searched quite a bit, but found no problems that were quite the same as what I'm experiencing. I had posted this same issue on page 17 of Tank's thread, but decided to start a new thread just to be able to reach more of the masses, as I'm not sure if this issue is specific to Tank's hybrid or not.
Everything works great, with one lone exception--I have my default browser set to "hotspot" as I always have, and previously (using .320) if I was in an area with no WIFI signal, the browser would just automatically switch over to the Internet browser and load my pages just fine. Now, however, if I have no WIFI signal, I get a "This is a WIFI service. Please ensure your device has an active WIFI connection and try again." message, forcing me to go into the browser settings and manually change the browser from "hotspot" to "Internet".Is this normal (for any OS version)? Is there some setting somewhere I'm missing? Seems to be a bit of a pain, just to take advantage of WIFI, to have to set this manually all the time.
*Also, as much as I appreciate the help, I'm not looking for "Use Opera Mini! It PWNS the BB Browser!!!1!". Yeah, I know there are other browsers out there, some with great features (and speeds), but I'm just trying to figure out this issue with the BB Browser.

I open up the browser and the blue progress bar along the bottom of the screen just creeps and creeps for hours (blank white screen). My provider is O2de, and I have an unlimited data plan (that I verified was working when I couldn't get my browser to work) and I even pay €5 a month just because my phone is a BB. But when I try to get on the internet it says " your device does not currently have any Browser Configuration Service Book Entries. Please contact your service provider to enable the browser on your device".
I went and asked the next day, but they said everything is good on their end, and its a problem with my phone. Anyone have any idea of how to fix this? I cant send MMS because I don't have an email account registered because i cant do it without internet. Its really limiting what i can do with my phone.

Jul 8, 2010I bought DynoStorm and installed it on my Storm2 (9550) running OS v5.0.0.713. The app installed and all the permissions are set to "allow" except for "security timer reset" which is set to "deny" and locked out by our company's security policies (BES).The app launches but when I go to make changes to the settings, I get:
Fatal error saving log data : net.rim.device.api.io.file.FileIOException: Media Card is secured by another device. Unable to access encrypted file. <OK>
Due to our company policies, my device memory is encrypted though my media card is not. I also tried inserting a different 16GB MicroSD card and having the OS format the card. I still get the same error.

Jun 2, 2010I spent three hours on this site looking for a solution and four hours (two days straight) on the phone with Tmobile AND Verizon. I have an account w/Tmobile and purchased an unlocked Strom 9550. My calls and SMS are working, but no data, MMS, etc. Tmobile sent my service books and updated w/the new PIN and phone, but no success. Verizon verified that the pin/IMEI number is legit (not stolen/lost). However, still no data! and stuck on edge. Tmobile even contacted RIM, who was unable to help and recommended that I give it a few days.?
I checked the thread on how to set up tmobile w/this device, but its not working with either technique. I had a storm 9530 before upgrading and it worked perfectly! But now, I can't even update the device on the Tmobile BIS website because when I enter the PIN and IMEI, it says "the information you have provided is not valid for this service provider." Not the case when I did this with the storm 1. Also, my hosting routing table has been registered multiple times and it is still empty. And I'm sorry if this has been resolved before, I tried but couldn't locate any threads specific to this problem.
