BB Storm2 9550/9520 :: Post Impressions Of Screen Click On New Storm2
Mar 17, 2010I just got a replacement Storm 2 dated Mar 6, 2010. My old Storm worked pretty well but sometimes the bottom row buttons would stick, especially when using the Seidio extended battery with the plastic battery cover. I have a week or so to try both out before sending back the old one.
The new screen feels more... buttery. Its smooth. Buttery smooth. The old screen is clickier. The bottom row buttons on the new screen are a little sloppy compared to when you press the middle of the screen. Does anyone else notice this? I don't like that.But so far the new screen hasn't locked up on the bottom row as much, especially when trying to use it while the Storm is lying on a table.
For typing, the old screen seems just a bit faster, maybe just a bit less pressure required. New screen is a bit harder to type on but smoother.The old screen has a warmer white color than the old, but that is OK the old was fairly "blue".I don't know for sure yet which I like better! But will update here as I find more. If new screen prevents "hard button" syndrome than that's probably enough.

Apr 5, 2010I upgraded to .607 and everything works alright except that my alarm will not make noise when it goes off. It will vibrate, the pop up comes up, but it will not play reveille, even if I put it on the loud profile.

Jan 22, 2010I received a replacement phone yesterday and the screen was amazing. I type faster on my replacement then my computer. Problem is the silver molding was all rough as if someone forgot to replace the molding. So I called it in. My 2nd replacement is brand new. The screen is very similiar in touch except I have to push down a little harder. My question is, does anyone know how to make it click easier? Also the screen is not as, "white," as the replacement and original. Thanks for any help...

Mar 26, 2010for some reason, when ever i do a battery pull and when my storm starts back up, the screen clicks so easy, but as time goes on (min or so) it gets stiffer and you have to use more pressure.

Feb 16, 2010how that would make the perfect storm, for me! I downloaded a theme that has touch icons on the homescreen that opens up your programs without having to click in the screen. I'm thinking if this is possible from the homescreen then it would be possible throughout the entire OS, right? I would pay big bucks for that!

Apr 18, 2010I just received my new storm 2 after replacing the first because the screen wouldn't click in the corner. I made sure I got one with a march 5th branding so I had the updated screen. Earlier today the send, Menu, Return, and End keys plus the screen right next to the started this "TINKing" noise. The other side still "clicks".

Apr 15, 2010Basically i am getting the 'double click' thing on my storm2 once a day atleast. I upgraded the OS recently but its still doing it. Sometimes if i hit the screen hard it will start working which suspects me to beleive theres dirt under or around the screen itself?But if i remove the battery the screen then starts to work, which leads me to beleive its the software.
What is it? is it common? how can i fix it its driving me insane.

Feb 23, 2010I noticed recently that my end key will click 5 times when i press it down, its the only part of the screen that does it, but i do notice that the bottom buttons will double click everynow and then and it pisses me off. but the end key does it 5 times. Anyone have a clue what it could be? i was happy with the phone at first but now im kind of mad that i got it, the one thing i like about the phone is he clicking screen, it makes it to where i dont press as many as i do with other touch screens.

Jan 4, 2010I just finally joined the bb scene on Dec 26, with my new Storm 2 9550.I thought this was maybe due to the technological advancement of the device, as all new things usually have bugs.Sometimes while I am texting, or if I have just sent a text, set it down, then received one, my storm will freeze.The screen basically lock, not allowing me to click it. When I try to click the unlock key, nothing happens, and nothing will work until I hold the unlock/power key to turn it off. Sometimes it is stubborn enough where it won't work until I take the battery out and put it back in.It's done this a few times, which probably isn't good since I've only had the phone for 10 days. Do you guys think there is probably something mechanically wrong, and I should go exchange the phone? Or is it probably just a bug with some software and I should just ride it out?
Edit: Also, my other concern about exchanging it is the fact that I don't think I'll be able to show the Verizon Rep what is happening, as it is a random occurrence.Is the exchange policy a no questions asked policy?

Feb 23, 2010battery life for the Storm 2 , in my opinion is OK running .320 and not to sound arrogant or jerky, cause Im a humble guy, but battery life on my Tank's Hybrid ACT 2 (.497) 95X0 hass been really great.
is battery life between the Storm 1 (newest build) and Storm 2 really that much different? Think about it.Well, I dont think that much.I think the same if not better especially with ACT 2.This certainly isnt an advertisement for my Hybrid so I apologize in advace -- please read on.
What we dont think about is this.The Storm 1 's click needed no energy, just the enrgy from our fingers , right? Well the Storm 2's click was revamped using piezo technology (genius!) to give us this hassle free click which is 10 times better to say the least. What WE dont think about is that this NEW technology in the Storm 2 is electronic and requires a Power source which is the battery. of course point being is that:
1.) we dont realize how many times we click the screen a day and
2.) how much battery energy is actually used to power the screen click.
The Storm 2 is ALMOST the same phone -- its the same CPU.we do have more built in memory and a newer screen (way better color saturation, the Storm 1 was a very cold color scheme, very blueish tint)So in turn, we must recognize the fact that we have the same if not better battery life with the same battery and MORE energy being used to power the phone (screen clicks)
Now I believe this supports my claim.I BELIEVE the "CLICK" is partly controlled by the OS's power scheme.I believe the OS talks to the battery and the phone to manage the power used to "click" this is why we ALL see an inconsistent screen click softer but yet more responsive or "smart" after a fresh charge and the later in the day, maybe a more lazy click still a "satisfactory" click, but yet and not to be ignored, a different click.Of course I will agree that different builds and/or .cods will control the click, but I believe it only controls the "default" click set forth buy that build number.ie. .320 vs .428 or .428 vs .464 or .464 vs .497
Just my 2 cents to throw in so when we all, including myself, complain about a slightly different screen click throughout the day and battery life that isnt where we want it to be.I always keep in mind "Hey RIM, not to shabby of a job keeping battery life similar to the Storm 1 considering we run more apps (due to more memory) and ALL of the thousands of screen clicks we make everyday"

Apr 22, 2010I'm running the Storm2 on 580. For weeks I haven't had a single option, and all of a sudden multiple times in 2 days I have this issue:While my phone is in my pocket, I pull it out, and unlock the screen. The screen is hard, but not unclickable. So when I click on messages or anything else it opens it and closes it, because it double clicks. Usually the bottom keys click but don't function. I have to lock the screen and turn it back on after a few seconds or a minute later for it to function. The double clicking and it closes the app is really annoying. It only happens when it's in my pants.
I think what happens is that since the screen is TOWARDS my leg, and my leg may hit the bottom buttons, it presses it or something like that. And after a few times of that happening unexpectedly the screen does something. I don't know. Any ideas? Could this be an OS issue? I doubt it's a hardware since it ONLY happens with my jeans and in my pocket.

i have been back and forth pretty much DAILY with VZW...
My phone seems to drop signal left and right... it will show full then none then full... it goes up and down all the time no matter where i am...
VZW has given me 3 phones, a new phone # hoping that will solve the issue... NOTHING IS WORKING!!
they have had 3 different troblue tickets opened and said there was a tower issue by my house! what a crock of **** that was...
3 BB in the house 2 Storm2's 1 tour and a VZW Mobile broadband card and my phone is the only one with this issue...
now i have my 4th phone on the way since November...
i never had a problem with my curve like this..
this issue is causing my battery to drain form 4%-25% hour... (depends on the day)
I have done full wipes and restores, full wipes and manual Restores, Upgrading OS's, *228, new phone #, New phones.... i am getting frustrated because i am missing alot of calls and some days i cant even use my phone...
they also have yet another trouble ticket opened... lets see how this goes...

One thing I have to ask is I noticed my battery isnt as good as my old phone, I was searching around and noticed some people switch from Global to 1XEV, what exactly is the diffrence, I switched mine but havent had a chance to see what the diffrence is. I did notice that sometimes under my signal bars that it said 1X, then went to 3G, then i caught it earlier saying searching for CDMA(i think thats what it said"not sure").

May 5, 2010I don't know if this is a result of OS .607, but every time I get a notification, either an SMS, MMS, FB notification, etc, and I remove the device from my magnetic holster, the thing stays frozen for about 30 seconds before it allows me to put in my code and unlock the phone (btw, I use pattern lock). As I said, I don't know if its because of OS .607, but it has been happening a lot lately. Jul 21, 2010Didn't know where else to put this, since Idk if it's a 9550 only thing or all BB's, but when I receive a text message I like to know when I received it, or how long ago. But whenever I tap the received message it always says received one minute ago, unless it was on an earlier date. But, if I get a text at 8am and check it at noon, then tap on it, it says received one minute ago. Any way to fix this?

When it does it, it does it about every three minutes, switching to another time zone and then coming back to the one it belongs in. This is getting frustrating as it messes up my calendar and I keep getting these meeting notices. I have removed the battery and that has not helped. At first I thought it was when I was in areas with bad coverage but today it was doing it while in Minneapolis Minnesota. Anyone else having this trouble and what did you do? I have updated the Roaming and it still does it.

Press the call button, select the address book tab and press find for the keyboard to show and to type the name I'm looking for.BUT did you know that if you press the green call-button (from wherever you are) for 2 seconds it will go right away to the address book tab on you call screen with keyboard present?
Maybe it's old news or something new in .607? Whatever it is, I'm glad I found it and I consider it very useful for my use.
