BB Device Software :: Can 8530 Device Software Work On 8330 Curve?
Apr 11, 2010
My wife recently purchased the 8530 curve, and I have the 8330. I was playing around with it and liked the view and some of the features that the new software has available (mainly the new clock that has 'bedside' options for use as an alarm clock and the look of the icons.). Does anyone know if the 8530 software can be run on the 8330 without issues?

Does anyone know if the 8530 software can be run on the 8330 without issues? If so, what is the best way to update to the new software?
RIM sent me an e-mail today inviting me to upgrade my Sprint Curve 8330 to Device Software 5.0. In the past, this wasn't available on Sprint devices. My computer is a Mac, so I connected to Blackberry Desktop Manager and it said that there are no upgrades available. Am I able to upgrade my device software?
I had a Curve 8330 and had a problem with it sync-ing to my computer. Verizon sent me a new phone and it works fine. The only problem is that all of my old emails/texts are on the old device and I need them in my new device. Is there any way to download/sync the new device so that I get access to my old messages? Even if I could download/sync directly from hotmail.I would love to have my old BBMs too but that is definitely secondary.
I'm very new to the world of Blackberry, but so far I love it. I'm going on a flight tomorrow night and would prefer my own entertainment, so I'm curious if anyone has tried ripping a DVD to the 8530 and if so were you successful. I'd appreciate any tips on making the process as painless as can be. I have a PC if that matters.
Is the quality of the device good? My concern is that it is CDMA and GSM. Will that make any difference in network speeds? I don't travel so SIM cards don't matter to me. Is it worth getting the Curve 8530 since it is CDMA?
How much Device memory should I have? I have a BB 8520 with 122277261 File Free. And when I check App World it says I have 116 MB left. I'm always scared of going under 110 MB. How much device memory should you have? Is it alright if I go under 110 MB in my device memory?
I have a serious problem with my curve 8520, since yesterday, I could not start my device anymore. When I start the device, it start to boot up until maybe 75 % and then it starts all over again from 0. naturally I tried to pull the batterie out, and waited like couple of minutes but it still want works.does anyone has similar experience? any suggestion on how to solve it?
I have been trying to download the device upgrade software for my 8530 to go from version 5.0 bundle 1108 to version 5.0 bundle 1596 for the past week and a half but it keeps failing when it gets to module 427 or so, The error message says to try again or verify the internet connection. We are on a high speed wireless full duplex internet connection.

I have several dozen pictures that were added to my new Curve 8530 from my old phone before I had an sd memory media card, so they're sitting in the internal device memory. How do I transfer them to the media card, and can I "select all" to move them all at once or do I have to go picture by picture? Also, I use Desktop Manager for Mac. Is there any way I can move them around through my Mac Finder? Would I have to disable Mass Storage? In what situations would one enable or disable Mass Storage and MTP?
So I use a Blackberry Curve 8530 and I have been having serious problems for the last two weeks. Every time I try to turn on my "Mobile Network" in Manage Connections, the device crashes then tries to reboot. It will continue trying to reboot until the progress bar in the Blackberry loading screen is full, then crashes again. It will do this until the battery is entirely drained.Because a drained battery causes the Mobile Network to automatically shut off, I can then plug the phone back into charge and it will turn on and be fine - until I try to turn on the Mobile Network, upon which the process repeats itself. I'm gettin sick n tired of this trackball on the 8330, I recently had to fix it cause it would only go up... so onto a new Blackberry! Can anyone give me some input about the 8530? I hear the camera has no flash , is that true? How is that supposed to be an upgrade!? Anything else I should know that's different between the two, aside from the obvious?
I'm looking at purchasing a Blackberry phone. I've been thinking about getting either the 8330 or 8530. I enjoy browsing the web and listening to mp3 music along with texting, does anyone have any ideas of the pros and cons.
I own a BB for only 3 days now. I was wondering if the device was normally sold with Appworld already install? It was not on mine. I wanted to download it today, here the process:
1- Go to BB.com, send the link on my email...err: I don't have internet explorer 5 or higher on my device (can't download it for the same reason!) 2- Go to BB.com to download it on my desktop....err, I use firefox (mac), 3- open VMWare Fusion, run Internet explorer 5, crash. 4- install internet explorer 7...crash 5- Look in the application loader in the desktop manager, I can uninstall/install Appworld on my device! Do it. I still can't see in in my applications.
My device is pw protected. I schedule my quickpull to restart my phone and I gave it the pw so it can by pass that. However, it does not do that. The phone does not unlock and restart. Instead, I have to manually unlock it and it prompts me to restart. Idk what to do. I want to have phone restarted when I don't need it. As in when I wake up and hop in shower.
There is no update to the device software on BB Curve 8330! I just purchased the playbook and found out I need to have OS 5 or higher. I currently have 4.5 and there is no update offered by my provider! How can I get the OS 5?
Today, I would try to open my e-mail/messaging after a message came through, getting to the icon was VERY slow, along with it would not pull up the next screen so that I could see what messages came through. I pulled the battery and sd card, and it still happened.
I have been trying to access a website that I normally visit daily and today it was telling me that about memory being full. Its only when i try to access my inbox, yet the the rest of the pages will load (including facebook).I deleted a bunch of pics off my phone and thought if i enabled memory cleaning, it would clear my cache, cookies, etc. the prompt said it would save changes when the device was turned off and rebooted. I did a battery pull and now what is happening is my issue.
after i pulled the battery, I get a red blink of hte led, then a black screen with a clock in the middle (obviously the loading symbol) and then the screen showing "blackberry" with a loading bar.Once the loading bar is done loading...nothing! It goes back to turning off the device and reloading from the start. It has been doing this for 2 hours and the device will not go to the home screen, it just keeps rebooting itself. I have done 2 or 3 battery pulls now and it keeps doing it. Would it have anything to do with the "memory clean" enablement? or is the peice of cr@p toast now? And have i lost all my contacts??
I have a Pearl, doesn't connect to PC, no internet. My brother is letting me use his Curve to transfer a theme to my Pearl. Now basically, i need to know how and where to transfer the Pearl theme to (while the curve is plugged in, and the pearl's micro sd is in it) then remove the SD card and put the SD card it in the pearl, then locate the theme.
When i open the folders for the micro SD card on the computer,(while in the curve) i see no folder for apps or themes. I transfer the alx and cod file into every folder there but i can't find it when i put the micro sd back in my pearl
The next thing ive tried was installing it as an app thru BB manager, it said it transferred ok, but i cant find it on the micro sd card (do they go right to the curves own memory maybe??)
For some reason, I can't receive emails on my @sprint.blackberry.net account. My Yahoo, AOL and Gmail work just fine. I signed up for a BB address on my phone's browser. When I try to log in on my desktop, it says my device is not accessible and I must visit the website on my phone. I have tried sending emails TO my phone and sending emails FROM my phone. Neither one works.
I am with orange and I have 500MB data per month. When I try and use the mobile network internet it says 'This is a WiFi service. Please ensure your device has an active wifi connection and try again'. Why is this? Also, when i try to update to 5.0 it says I need a data package but it worked on my old phone. And because of this I can't download the app world. The signal goes to SOS a lot as well but I think my house blocks the signal. Currently it says 'gprs' with 2 bars beside it.

Also, I use Desktop Manager for Mac. Is there any way I can move them around through my Mac Finder? Would I have to disable Mass Storage? In what situations would one enable or disable Mass Storage and MTP? (OK, that's probably a second topic; but I haven't found a good explanation of what it is.)
I'm currently using wi-fi with my bb, and everything seems to work except BBM. I don't have a data plan with my service provider, and I contact blackberry. how to get BBM to work when using wi-fi?
I am using the Google calendar sync to push my Outlook appointments to my Google calendar, and then using the Google calendar app on my BB 8530 to download my consildated Outlook/Google calendar. This works great, except for one problem. When I receive an invite for a meeting via my Exchange email on my device, it automatically adds it to my calendar, hence creating a duplicate calendar item.
In my calendar options on my BB, the "Wireless Sync" option is grayed out and set to "No." (since I don't use a BES connection)
How can I stop my BB from adding items to my calendar automatically when it sees the calendar invite in my email on the device?
I have Verizon service and use webmail to sync my Exchange email.
I am curious about BB Desktop Manager 5.0. My Curve 8310 came with BB Tools but it is version 4.3. I downloaded 5.0 from BB website and when I plugged in my 8310 with software version 4.5.0.153 it displayed about a dozen updates to my phone. I declined the updates for now because I didnt want to hack up my phone. Is it ok to update with the 5.0 version or should I stick to the 4.3?
