View 4 Replies View RelatedI am working with a user who recently switched from a 9550 to a 9700 (verizon to at&t) for coverage reasons.Whenever he unlocks his keyboard (using the lock button on the top left of the device), he must enter his password to access his phone. The security timeout settings on his phone are set to 1 hour, but even if he locks the keyboard for 5 seconds, he still has to enter his password when unlocking it.The only time that the keyboard will lock and unlock without requiring a password is when it is entered/removed from the holster.We are using BES.I cannot replicate this issue with the 9650 or 9550. Unfortunately I don't have a 9700 at my disposal to play with.Is this a normal feature for the 9700?I've checked his encryption settings (disabled).We cannot disable the password function (mandated by BES policy).The issue is not that he has to enter his password, it's that he would prefer that a password not be needed unless the security timeout has expired.

i performed a security wipe on my friends phone because she's giving it away, now the phone wont start up, just gives a red light for a few seconds after a battery pull.have had the phone on charge for 2 hours, the red light goes on whilst lugged in. but still does not want to start up! whats the problem?? have never had this problem after a security wipe before.

My question is what other steps should I take regarding the security of my handset and what steps do members of this forum take.
I'm also curious as to what happens if I enable my encryption setting under options?.
One concern I have with the password feature would be that I believe the handset can be reset if the password is typed in wrong the number of times set. If someone fooled around with my phone then they could wipe it intentionally, is that correct?
Every time I try to upgrade existing applications (such as BBM / Facebook) I get the following error message: "Your BlackBerry ID will be locked for 0 minutes for security reasons. You will not be able to login or request your password until that time has expired."I am not sure how did my BB ID get blocked and furthermore how to get in unblocked. Need urgent help on this issue.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy company had a planned upgrade of our system. I had to wipe my phone and reactivate as a result. Before I did I downloaded Blackberry desktop and backed up my phone. When I went to restore there were two options a complete restore that would put everything back to how it was and a custom restore. I think I can't choose the complete restore since that would remove the company's intended changes changes. If I choose custom restore the password file is grayed out. A note at the bottom tells me the grayed out items are read only data types and cannot be restored. Does anyone know how to restore my data.

I can wipe my Blackberry using JL Commander and get it to go away, but once plug it back into my Blackberry Internet Desktop Software, it locks it again. I have removed the blackberry desktop 3 times now and reinstalled it and still the same problem.I even went as far as doing a regedit and removed all blackberry information in that. I am stumped on this one. All I can figure is there is something in my desktop computer that is putting the security back on. Again, this is a personal blackberry being used on a personal computer.

So i thought it would be easier to do a full wipe and start a fresh.However since doing this i have no email setup and no option to update software or wifi .I have tried downloading new software but it gets to the" Check for updates screen" and goes no further. I have to close it down and restart the computer. I have left this to run for over 3hours thinking it may work but to no avail. I have tried it with desktop software running and without, with and without a sim card.

About a month ago I enabled the password protection option on my phone and now it will freeze about 3-4 times a week when I try to unlock the phone.I haven't pinpointed it exactly, but it seems to happen more frequently when I lock the keyboard by pressing and holding the * key along with the elapsed time for a Security Timeout happening. My screen displays a dialogue box that says "Keypad is locked. Press the Mute button to unlock." I press the Mute button, and a black dialogue box appears behind the 'Keypad is locked." one, and everything freezes. No buttons do anything.The only thing I can do is take the battery out, replace it, and wait 5 minutes for the phone to reboot.The only thing I could think of was to disable the password protection, but now there is a little lock next to the selected 'enable' password option. I am a private user and do not use a company BES. Could it be that synching with Gmail has the same effect as a security policy through a BES? And what could be causing my phone to freeze up so frequently?
