IPhone :: Apple-unlocked Became Locked Suddenly
Jun 14, 2012I have an Apple-unlocked iPhone 3GS which I bought in Australia 2 years ago. It's always worked fine with various SIMs and varuious carriers - I travel a lot so unlocked was my chocie as I use SIMs in each country I visit. Recently in UK, I bought and installed a prepaid (pay as you go) SIM while I was there and now I find the phone is locked to that carrier. Well, at least it will not make calls - it'll recieve calls and it'll send and recieve SMS messages, but I can't make any calls - it just begins the calling process then gives call failed message. Now I find the problem, I've moved on to another country so getting the carrier to see to it is impossible for me. So now I have a locked phone because somehow a carrier has been able to disable the factory unlock by using their SIM I installed. This is a carrier I have not used before with this phone.
how can that happen? How can a carrier have that sort of power over the device? How can I get back to the original unlocked state? I've tried a total Restore, but no change - still locked.

May 24, 2012Our email account was hijacked a week or so ago and a load of duff emails sent out. Eventually issue resolved with yahoo after multiple password changes. However, since then we have had problems with emails on iphone and ipad. Sending seems the most problematic. We are using the new passwords but keep receiving error message saying that the username and password are incorrect-they aren't. We can access yahoo via PC and the account is fine-sends and receives as normal. Just makes me realise how much I use the mobile devices?

Apr 25, 2012Shortly after I got my iPhone 4S, I added my gmail account to the mail app (not the gmail app),so that I could read my email on my phone, and specifically not using the Gmail app, but using the email app, and adding the Gmail account as an Exchange Server so that my Google Contacts would sync to the device. It worked for weeks. Now, suddenly, it says wrong password whenever I try to check my email. I have removed it and added it back. I did not change anything on my email account configuration that would cause this.
Since it happened, though, I have removed the account and re-added it. It seems that it would stop me from adding the account if I were using the wrong password, but it lets me add the account with no problem, and only gives the wrong password message after that, when it tries to begin downloading emails.
I have typed in the password enough times today to make sure that I am typing it in correctly. I have been able to log into my gmail account via the web successfully (proving that I do know my own password). I even downloaded and installed the gmail app and was able to use it to get to my email. But that leaves my phone with zero contacts, because I keep all my contacts in Google Contacts, and the Gmail app doesn't seem to add any contacts to the contacts list on the phone. I need it to work the way it was set up & working before today. I don't know if Apple changed something, if Google changed something, or what. I would think that there would be others using this functionality who may be similarly stuck.
So my question is: How can I access my Gmail account from my iphone and have my google contacts brought into the phone's contact list, and constantly synchronized with Google contacts, like I had going before today? With the addition of iCloud, it gets really confusing really quick. The simple solution that I was using was so nice. I will be sad if it is gone for good...

Feb 28, 2010My phone seems to be locked, with the itunes logo and image of a usb cord with an arrow pointing toward the icon. The only thing it will do is slide open to make an emergency call. There is a little lock symbol at the top. I connected to my mac to upload photos, and it wanted to upgrade softwear, so I clicked ok. Now in my Itunes screen, it says that the sim card is not supported and that i need a compatible sim card. I have been using this phone for a year with no problems. Did Apple find a way to lock any phones that are synced thru Itunes, that are not using AT&T?

Mar 20, 2010I recently had a repair done to my iphone. Afterword, I was told that I had to restore the os. I downloaded and installed the latest version (3.1.3) through itunes.
When it attempted to activate the phone I got an error message saying the phone either had no sim or the sim was locked and instructing me to disconnect the phone and unlock the sim.
My sim does have a pin, but the phone itself won't allow me to unlock it. It says 'restore needed' and directs me to itunes.
It seems like a catch 22 - can't activate without unlocking the pin, can't unlock the pin without activating. As it is, I can't use the phone at all.

Apr 7, 2012I have an iPhone 3GS, and it was misplaced for quite some time. And now that I have it back, no one remembers the passcode. I didn't realize that trying a different passcode every time it allowed me to would disable it completely. So now it says "iPhone is disabled connect to iTunes." I have no problem restoring it and it deleting all of my apps, I can get those back. I have an issue with it deleting my contacts and photos. The problem is, I was never able to back it up, beacause my computer wouldn't recognize the phone when I plugged it in. We just got a new computer and now it'll recognize it. Is there any way to save the photos and contacts and still get into the phone?

Jun 24, 2012I brought my wife an IPhone 4S yesterday and checked with the sales guy in 02 that I can run two accounts off the same laptop as I have an IPhone as well, which he said would be fine.
However the new IPhone required an updated version, which I downloaded and then the new IPhone locked up with the ITunes Logo and the USB Cable showing. Have tried restoring but it keeps saying it needs to download the newest version iOS 5.1.1 which takes over an hour to download, but I already have the newest version dowloaded.

Pretty much I have not been able to update any apps, but that didn't bother me too much until i recently start to lose data connection and i need to perform battery pull to reconnect - and even then I lose the data connection soon after.
