IPhone :: Restore From Backup Doesn't Restore Apps
May 3, 2012I finally updated my iPhone to 5.1. I waited so long because of the fiasco updating my iPod Touch when 5.0 first came out. I thought it worked, I was pleased Apple worked out the bugs. Lo and behold, all of my apps and folders disappeared before my eyes. No problem I thought, I did a back up. Restore from back up. Fifteen minutes later, it looks exactly the same. Isn't a backup supposed to be of everything on the system so that if something goes wrong, you just revert back to the back up and either try again or wait for the process to be fixed? Seriously, get your stuff together.

May 1, 2012For reasons which are now irrelevant, I had lost some photos through attempting to sync with iTunes. (I clicked off the process before it had completed-hence why I only lost a few) In order to get these back, I tried a 'restore from backup'- unbeknownst to me, this back up was from a few months ago. I have now lost 300+ photos (among other, less important things). I am on Windows 7 and have found the backup files in windows explorer as suggested in numerous forums but have no idea what to do with them now...I understand that these photos may simply be lost. But at the moment I'm refusing to believe that they have been deleted from the face of the earth as NOWHERE along the line did I press 'delete' or any other such commands.

Recover Photos That Shot On IPhone 5 After Backup Restore?
Jun 25, 2014I received a replacement phone from Apple and have been trying to restore everything that was in the previous phone. I did the routine manual backup to iTunes (not iCloud) from my old phone before I gave it up to Apple and then restored that backup to the new phone but the photos don't seem to be appearing.
Keep in mind these are photos I only shot on my phone, I never imported them into iPhoto and I last remember having Photo Stream turned off. I thought doing the routine backup in iTunes automatically backs up everythingon the phone including photos. My phone is running iOS 7.1.1. I really hope they're not gone forever. Is there somewhere in my machine (mid-2012 MBP, OS X Mavericks) where they're hidden?

Sep 7, 2014I mistakenly selected restore backup on my computer with my iphone 5S plugged in and little did i know it was going to delete all of my photos and contacts that I had from the past year and send me back to my last backup which was when ios 7 came out (LAST YEAR!!) I really need these photos and contacts back, so I did some research about recovering deleted files on my phone and turns out applications like these exist. I just don't know which ones to get. Most of them range from $50 to $100 so i really don't want to have to buy two of them. Some of them are called PhoneRescue, MobiSaver, Wondershare Dr. Fone...etc and i tried all of their 'free trials' and none of them worked.

May 25, 2012i initiated and ios upgrade to 5.1.1 from my phone b/c it said it was already downloaded... after i kicked it off, it says i needed to connect to itunes.. however, it then said i was in restore mode.. after downloading the 800+gb download... it only gave me the option of restoring from an old restore... i thought since it said downloaded, the phone only need to update files and not the entire os. therefore i didnt perform a backup first.

Jun 24, 2014I have a 4S, IOS 7.1.1. I did a factory reset, after first backing it up, and now that I am trying to sync all apps from that last backup, it says it cannot sync because this computer is no longer authorized. So I authorize the computer as it prompts me too, then it says, this computer is already authorized. I try to sync again, it still says computer not authorized. It's been a continuous circle. I have done everything from de-authorizing and re-authorizing the computer, removing the SC Info folder and restarting the computer and authorizing the computer associated with all Apple IDs, basically everything I have found on this site and everything support was telling me to do.

My question is for those who have recommended a fresh install rather than a restore from backup. Are you referring only to the "Apps and Settings" backup and not the "text messages" backup?

I had assumed i would be able to save/backup/restore the most important info on my cell like my text messages, phone contacts and ALL my photos in my photostream thru iTunes and NOT have to shell out $3.99US + taxes to be able to do so! The App Store has only 1 free app (out of a whopping 5) which, of course, i cannot use on my 6.1.6 iOS..
How can i backup my messages and contacts? How do I add more options from where I backup email contacts etc etc OTHER than just Microsoft programs? i.e. From Chrome or FireFox.
How do I save and access ALL my 600 pics from my phone when only 56 are listed to be able to be saved on iTunes? Would I be completely delusional to hope there is an app or software that could do a cross-platform transfer of my stuff to an Android phone....??Â

Jan 3, 2012I did a backup of Nokia x6 (FW 40.X latest) on Nokia PC suite and Nokia suite. I then did a hard reset of my phone and now I'm unable to restore text messages from backup file. In fact not just the new ones but none of the backup files are getting restored. I do a backup every 2 weeks and even the older files don't seem to work. Rest of the data got restored absolutely fine. Only have a problem with test messages.
I nearly have 7000 sms across inbox and my folders. too much data lose ( or may be too much to restore? ).
List of Nokia phones I've used: 3310, 3315, 3200, 6600,3250, N73 ME, N95 8GB, 5800 XpressMusic and Nokia X6 16 GB (currently using this).

Jan 4, 2013I have gotten my phone back from repair, and it is now empty. Before I sent it, I backed up the SMS messages using the stock messages app. I stored the file on dropbox. Now, I am trying to restore the messages. So, I go to dropbox, and export the file to the SD Card in the phone. However, no matter where on the SD card I store the file, the messages app cannot find it to restore.

Internal "Backup & restore" app exist on both phones - my new Z5 and TX and serves the same way - it can back up all text messages (and other data which I don't need to transfer) and it does work with encrypted phone! First it asks for password for decrypting and then works fine. I'm saving my backup to SD card. I'm inserting SD card to Z5 and trying to restore with same data but... BnR app can't see saved data on SD card!
I made some researches on content of backups and I see they using different formats for backups. Different files structure, different files contents and different metadata format.

I've used JL cmder and the wipe commands from the security settings, but i'm still having the same issues.I traded up from a S1 to an S2 and when I received the new phone, obviously it was a refurb. There were loads of apps installed on the phone. I tried deleting them from the apps menu it options, but no go. A few apps I used, but there were no icons for them in any of the folder or on the main menu. I made sure they werent hidden either. A specific program was AIM for blackberry. I deleted it from options menu, then tried reinstalling it. Still no icon. I used JL cmder the second time to see if it would let me start fresh. Still no go.

Mar 9, 2010Basically on E72, I had messages in inbox, my folders and sent section. Once I restarted phone and then phone froze. I felt the problem was due to Vlingo application, because I pressed home button to see which applications were open that were casuing the freezing. So I restarted the phone and all messages were deleted. However my messages were saved as a backup on another memory card. So I only lost a couple of texts. But the same, exactly same problem happened yesterday. Now all texts on both memory cards have been deleted. I have now disabled vlingo to open on start up.
1. The only backup I have now is a pc suite backup of texts, as an .nbu file which I can restore using pc suite or ovi suite. However after I restore, the messaging application does not open and I have to restart phone. Also the texts inside "my folder" do not appear, only in my inbox and sent. Is there any way, of getting all the texts to appear including my folder texts?
2. Obviously the above solution doesnt give me all my texts back, so is there any chance of restoring the texts, from the memory cards even though it doesnt work when I insert it inside the E72. Im hoping by restoring old data inside the memory card by opening it on the laptop or something?
3. I heard, that texts do not get deleted at all, but just blocked, so anyone know if I can unblock them?
4. Or can my network provider send me texts, that I have recieved and sent over last couple of months.
