Xperia Mini/pro :: Unable To Get "Language & Input" Settings After ICS Update?
Jun 6, 2012
I got the ICS update on my XMP. But there is one problem which I am facing. In the Settings, if I tap on "Language & input" settings, the phone hangs and nothing appears. And then when I slide out the physical QWERTY keypad, the "Language & input" settings appear in the landscape mode and then again when I slide in the keypad, the screen goes blank and none of the keys on the phone work.
Every time I compose a message and start typing a bar pops up at the bottom of my screen with the current language on the left and a x on the right to close it. I hit this to close it and get it out of the way but the moment I start typing again its there! I dont find since I have had the phone any use for this annoying pop up so, Is there any way of stopping it?
At the massage tools > writting language>: does not have the list for chinese language although from the application got the chinese keyboard software but it look like useless. Isn't the flaw of android 2.1? How do I change back to android 1.6?
with the tiny screen size of the mini pro, I find the language bar that comes up when typing with the hardware keyboard very, very irritating. I mean, who in the world needs to quickly change keyboard languages in the middle of a text message? So, back under 1.6, I found out that you could just uncheck the Default Input Settings box under "Language and Keyboard" and the stupid bar would go away. All I did was uncheck it once, and everything was great! But, being greedy, I updated to the 2.1 update1 Singapore firmware, and now the langauge bar is back. I can go into the settings and uncheck it the default input settings box, and in some random amount of time, it will magically reenable itsself. I probably do this about 10 times a day, which is seriously imparing my enjoyment of the phone. I've tried using advanced task killer to autokill backround applications and processes, but I can't seem to make any progress on this.
A few things that i discovered and its bad! Comparing to E71, E72 is very bad. By the way, this is the second E72 i am using. I bought one before, same issue, now the secound one, Same ISSUE again!
Here are the problems: I need to type in Chinese (pinyin) but whenever the language is switched to Chinese input, the calculator does not allow me to input decimal (how bad this is!).
Also in Chinese mode, once back to English input, the SPACE bar input is NOT WORKING. The only way is to restart the damm phone.
So when I was in gingerbread, whenever I needed to type in either Chinese or Japanese, I could just tap and hold down on the text box (either in SMS or any forms of text box), but now tap and hold down on the screen no longer gives me that option.. and when I go setting for typing I could not find the original Chinese and Japanese inputs.
I selected "I never want to have any words or letters replaced" in Words Suggestions in Language and Input. I can see word suggestions on top of Xperia keyboard but I am unable to select the words. The letters below the words gets selected instead. This only happens in phone is held upright (portrait). The selection works when phone is rotated horizontal (landscape).Â
That leads me to another problem, when in horizontal (landscape), only a slither of the doc avail for editing. The keyboard takes up 2 thirds of the space, and apps tool bar takes the rest of the real estate above that. Hence I almost never input any docs/apps on the Z3 horizontally. Maybe the real estate issue is because I use large font size.Â
I am interested in an export set for Ray selling $100 less than a warranty set but the sales man said there is no support for Chinese messaging input. $100 saving is very tempting, and Ray is not known for hardware problem.Seek expert advice from seasoned Android and Ray users - If Sony really did not preinstall Chinese as one of the list of languages to choose for messaging input, then is it easy to get it installed by updating to the latest software from Sony Ericsson website from my region? Or need to buy a messaging app for Chinese with the language built into the app from the Android Market? Or must root the device in order to re-install the OS used for this East Asian region?
i am using GPRS services for now almost an year and half. i was having windows mobile till 16th Sept'11 on which i was using gprs very happily but on 17th Sept'11, i did purchase Xperia mini from G. V. Puntambekar(Pune based dealer). The phone is now installed OS as Andriod 2.3. Ever since i have purchased the phone i am not able to use GPRS services on it. I did speak to Airtel (my current service provider) and whatever settings they have given but not able to save them on my phone bcoz it asks for MCC and then MNC code. hence after talking to Airtel somehow i got these code. but depite of entering them into the settings along with other settings, i am still not able to use gprs. i was told that once you save the gprs manual settings it creates a profile on phone but it is not saving any profile on my phone. Sony dealer is sayingthat it is a service provider problem and Service provider is saying that we have given you all the settings so it is a phone manufacturer's problem. I am getting penalised in these two contradictory statements. Without GPRS the phone is like any ordinary phone. I feel like cheated even after paying Rs.13000/- and buying Sony's product. Feels like lesson learnt that never buy SONY product again..
I gladly installed the 2.1 update on my girlfriends mobile and everything worked fine. However, under "Settings - Language&Keyboard" there is NO menu item for Android keyboard.... As it appears, she uses the standard T3 enty mode and simple does not like the recommended words. There is no way to set it back now and I am thinking about playing it back to 1.6 despite the advantages coming with it.
I have recently updated my X10 mini to the new 2.1. However I have tried to get into/adjust my accessibility in the settings. But nothing happens. I can't turn the tick on or off?
I see that Android 4.0 has smart lockscreen from which we can access musicplayer and all settings screen.. For me music player is workinG fine. but.. settings tab is not popping out..
Connected it to the PC companion and was informed about the update. Switched off the phone and turned it back on. Connected the usb port while holding the back button and selected connect the phone but nothing happened. I've tried this about 6 times now and nothing.Should the phone be asking me what i want to do each time? I thought there was an option to set the phone to automatically mount when connecting the usb cable but it seems to be gone in 2.1. Could anything be blocking it? My phone is UK unbranded and on firmware version 2.1-update 1.
my SW version is 4.1.B.0.431. today my phone offer me an update to 4.1.B.0.587 version. I've downloaded it and try to install update. but after some time phone says that update can't be installed. why so? my phone is rooted. is that a brake for install update?
A few weeks ago I got the notification that an update was available for my phone. My friend got the same update via his HTC shortly after, he was able to update directly from his phone without any problem. I was informed I had to connect to a PC to update mine, frustrating but I do understand the definate benefit. But there are only benefits if the software related is robust and well tested, which it isn't.I connected my phone, updated PC companion, connected the phone via pc companion. Attempted to use the support zone which had just been updated also. I got the error message saying " Pc Companion need to connect to online server". I have done suggest it's only a temporary problem but I've tried on over 10 different occasions on two different PC's.I then tried using the SUS as I needed to use that to update to ICS in the first place, but it wants to dowload a 127mb file, way to big for the patch which is meant to be 0.1mb.
Xperia mini pro (SK17)1251-91014.0.2.A.0.622/1/2012 for update to android 4. BUT i can't update , PC companion is showing, that my phone is updated till last version, and it's still staying on version 2.3.4. what to do now? i was waiting so long time, and now i can't update.
Just yesterday I received a notification on my Xperia Mini Pro telling me I should connect my phone to my PC in order to update the latest firmware. When doing so, the PC Companion software mentions an update indeed.Every time I get to the 2. Prepare stage of the update, I get an error, however:Installation Error Unable to install or start phone software update components.I live in the Netherlands and my carrier doesn't push firmware updates through my phone's data network (I don't know if that'd even be possible)
I couldn't update my mini pro to ICS. I'll put here all the problems which I encountered in the update process. The link in the below image doesn't work.
It shows the following screen By continuing with the update, I found the following errors
Here Is a Screen shot of what i am seeing at PCC Screen shot of SUS what i am seeing
I tried to update my phone by using pc companion and also SUS... but i am not abale to update my phone... when i am using SUS it says something going wrong... and the application shut down... i re instal it but unable to update.. when i use pc companion it show me i have an update.. but during the stage 3.Update is says my phone does not have any update.
Just got a x2, with swedish as chosen language in the system.I thought that a update of the phone never hurts. To my suprise the choice of swedish is now gone. How can I return to previous settings or update to a language pack containing swedish?
After multiple tries of trying to update Android for my Xperia X10 mini pro phone via the PC Companion as well as the downloaded Update Service (after reading similar threads) i am still at a loss! I am in Mumbai using an Airtel SIM.
In the case of the PC Companion, it goes smoothly until the Prepare step (where no Previous & Next buttons appear). After "preparing" the phone nothing happens. I tried pressing Enter & then it goes onto the Update panel. But here the Download status bar is just mpty & doesnt download anything.
With the Update Service, it runs fine till the Connect step. After following the instructions once again nothing happens. Here there is only a Previous button & no Next button. Pressing Enter takes you to the Previous panel.
In both cases I have seen no message appear on the phone at all & no sign of anything being recognized on either of the softwares.
I've bought a new Xperia X10 Mini Pro two months ago. Now I'm trying to update the operating system(Android) using the receipt given on the Sony Ericssons homepage using Sony Ericsson PC Companion 2.0.PC OS: Windows XP SP3 (32-bit).Everything works well until I come to the point where I'm supposed to disconnect the USB-cable, turn the mobile phone off, restart the mobile phone, reconnect the USB-cable and holding the Back-button when doing this.I get a new page telling me to pull the top menu down and activate the USB connection (or something like that). When I have done this the page switches back to the former page where I'm again told to disconnect theUSB-cable, turn the mobile phone off etc.I have also tried to use the Update Service, but I'm not coming any further than to the first page.
The software is not yet released for my mini pro, and its not on the SI list, also, its not available on my Sony update service, but the thing is, I really want to do the update.
When I try to update my xperia mini pro to Android ICS through PC Companion, the progress is as follows:
[code]...
And don´t even try to propose to switch off antivirus and firewall, because I´ve tried that also. And no, I have not got another PC to test it. Instead, you should try to do software like we are used to in 21st century.I really have to restrain myself from using more appropriate language for your utter software engineering disability. You should really sit and think about how you do your business.
I have been trying to update my x10 mini pro with a new software. Have been tryinf SE homepage and also SE PC Companion but it just doesnt work. I do everything as the menu says but at one point the programme freezes and nothing happens. I press down the "back" button while putting in the cable and just keep it pressed down and hoping the transfer will start but nothing happens. The phone starts up and thats it, then it all freezes.Tried to disable my Security programe too while updating. Tried different USB connections.
