i really need to upgrade my software and after following all the steps on how to backup data so i dont lose it i get told 'could not back up'. what shall i do?

Having installed the update I then went into back up and restore to restore my phone settings but it hasn't worked properly. Only about 20% of my phone book is showing and it says the SIM card is not available, none of my Apps returned and a theme I paid �1.99 for hasn't loaded properly as it's only got the wallpaper and none of the modified icons.My full contact list is still on the SIM card as I checked it in my previous phone that my Dad now has so why isn't it appearing on my phone? It's extremely inconvenient not having access to it as I don't have a back up anywhere else and most of the missing numbers are the ones I use regularly.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOk, i have updated my phone so many times and nothing has ever gone wrong, i have always backed up my files in the "Backup and Restore" App and there has never been a problem. I have just updated my phone with latest update and it has wiped my Apps including the "Backup and Restore" app! (My files are always sent to my memory card with no problem) Now i cannot restore any of my files and its really F***ed me off, The Xperia 10 has to be the faultiest phone i have ever had, even when the phone is locked and in my pocket it manages to change my settings and forwards messages to random people!

When i tried to restore my stuff from my SD card i found out i could not load the backup and restore software.
how i can go about getting my stuff back, contacts and text from SD card to my phone...
having trouble restoring after the update?! I've had enough of this phone today then I update and find I can't restore most my things mainly the system settings! I mean it says backup befor eupdate to save your files,!It also says that I need the new backup and restore from [URL] or whatever, so I downloaded it and it says cannot update!Talk about annoying.what I can do to get my system files?

Followed the instalation to the letter, backed up my files using the new backup n restore etc, updated it n then began the restore, now this is the frustration part. i did everything SE said to do even did 2 backups but when i try to restore it takes ages n then says could not complete. not only have i lost all contacts but more frustrating i have lost all my apps, both paid and free. my google account seems to be wrong although i cant realy remember it, tryed to get the user name/password sent to my hotmail but seems to of created a new account n i dont have these "links to re-downloads" ur android apps.

So at home I got the USB cabled hooked up to my Linux Laptop and then discovered it had to be a windows computer.Anyway, I got it hooked to a Windows computer and the update process began. I followed every instruction and set all tickboxes for backup.After unplugging this and plugging it back in and rebooting here and there, it finally reached the restore process.I left it restoring for a while. When I came back to it, it said something had crashed. I don't know what as I'd just woken from a nap.But, it seems all my applications are restored. Yet my gmail account & Facebook account have become disassociated from my phone and all my contacts no longer have any names or pictures. I opened the contacts/phone book and the list is completely empty. tried to import contacts but it says it cannot find any anywhere.

I find only 3 options which are:
1> WCDMA Only
2> GSM Only
3> WCDMA (pref.) / GSM
