I unlocked the bootloader with the service provided by SE, then rooted using the zergrush exploit. Now I can't update the firmware from 4.0.2.A.0.58 to 4.0.2.A.0.62. Using OTA, it downloads and reboots, then says update failed. Using PC Companion it does pretty much the same, but the program says the phone contains altered software that can't be updated.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe problem started when i had too little space on my phone (ios 7.1.1) to update to 8.1 so it asked me to make space for the software. I deleted enough off of my phone and started to download it over wifi. The ios update would crash halfway and say there was some kind of error and every time i tried updating it after that it would never update. Another problem is the fact that i have no sim card in the phone and it says "Searching..." and even when i do have a working sim card in the phone it still says "Searching..." So now i updated my iTunes on my desktop and am currently trying to update and restore my iphone. i first tried updating it without restoring it through itunes and itd stop at around 60 remaining minutes and ask me all over again if i was to Download ios 8.1 or Download and Update to ios 8.1 and this has been happening for 2 hours. Then i would try restoring it and it would do the same thing.

I just purchased a factory unlocked Samsung Focus from Amazon. I will be using it on Simple Mobile, but I haven't purchased the SIM card or service yet (I will when my Virgin Mobile month is up). I've played around with the phone though, hoping to use it on the WiFi network at my college. I heard that the Mango update may allow me to access hidden SSID networks--is this true? Anyways, I was syncing the phone with the Zune software, adding music and such, and tried to update the phone because it said an update was available (not the Mango update...but I was going to try to force the Mango update after updating to the version it wanted me to--7.07 I think?). Every time I try to update it, it takes forever saying "installing" then it says it failed, with the error code C0000005. Is the update failing because I don't have a SIM card in the phone? .
Update: just tried again...this time it got through installing and restoring/restarting the phone, then it said the update failed.
i have a xoom 32gb wifi only device that i purchased from woot.com and i received the update notice to 3.1. i have downloaded and attempted to install several times now, each attempt has failed.
see attached image for error I have tried a Factory Reset (Settings -> Privacy -> Factory Data Reset), as well as factory reset at boot. No success.
I also tried the "wipe cache" command at boot and this did not result in a successful installation either. The only other choice at boot that makes sense is to "install update from usb", and when selected it goes to sdcard.
At this point I am seriously considering rooting, unlocking and then updating?

I also upgraded it to the latest available software: 4.1.B.0.587.This Xperia Ray unlocked phone does not work on Bell, Rogers or Videotron carriers in Canada who own the three Canadian cell networks. The IEMI number is rejected from these carriers. I tried the Virgin SIM (uses the Bell network) and the Rogers (Rogers network) SIM, and neither one works. There is the encryption key. This is not anything groundbreaking for the average user at this very second, but what it does mean to the average user, eventually, is that after Sony Ericsson stops releasing full version updates for our device (which is VERY likely to happen after the GB update scheduled for next month) The great people over at XDA developers will be able to provide us with full version updates that do not lack any features like they have to date. For example, when the 2.1 update was released, the devs at XDA got their hands on the code and released 2.2 for x10. However, the camera driver needed to be re-written for it to run at all...and even then it was not HD until recently because of a bootloader workaround. Now that the bootloader is wide opened we will see more updates, native wifi tethering, and if the hardware can handle it, we will see updates to full 4-point multitouch and 16million color displays.This also means we will be able to get full MIUI and CyanogenMOD support, and if you are really daring, you may even be able to make your x10 run WP7.Good things will come from this....development is still in the infant stages as this was just reported yesterday.

View 9 Replies View RelatedFinally the ICS update has become available for my phone (SI 1253-7151) -PC Companion pops up a message about the new update. If I click "Update", PC Companion starts downloading the update, finishes the download and says "Preparing computer for program updates".
Then it proceeds to "Unable to install or start components for update of phone system" and my phone does not get updated.Then I have tried Sony Update Service, but now I can't even start it properly; the program crashes right after opening it. It just says "Synchronizing" and then "An unexpected error has occured. The application will shut down." so I never get any possibility to see why.Again, my phone does not get updated. Since both programs crash there must be a serious problem with the downloaded files (and they're probably shared between the programs?).Apparently I'm not the only one experiencing it; I can see in a Norwegian forum that other people have the same problem - and in the original thread that you have hidden (!).
PS. The original thread was not mine; I just replied to it since I had the exact same problem. I received a message on my XPeria Mini Pro about the 4.1.B.0.587 Update. In fact, I can not install it. When I start the PC Companion software, it finds the connected Phone. Then I click on update. In the following window I click "Accept" and then the software should prepare the PC for the update. But after one second it stops and returns to Start without any comment. When I start Sony Mobile Update Service then it checks for new updates. As soon as the check is over, the program terminates without any comment. Is there a third way to upgrade?
