Storm :: New Blackberry 9550 Won't Charge

I JUST bought a new verizon model phone, and I charged it into the wall charger for 4 hours to make sure it was charged. When it is plugged in, a battery with a lightning bolt appears on the screen, so I assume it is charging. But, when I unplugged it, and turn on the device, I see the hourglass/clock on the screen, and then it goes to a page saying "Blackberry" and it begins loading, however, the phone turns off and dies. After that, I can't turn it back on. I tried putting it back into the charger for 5 mins, then repeat turning it on, and the same thing happens.

I then connect the USB to the computer, and I have the Blackberry Desktop software. The "summary" part can tell it's a blackberry storm 9550, but then, all the other sections say the device isn't connect. I can hear the phone disconnecting and reconnecting to the laptop also. Then a pop up appears stating the device isn't connected/troubleshooting and to try re-trying to find the phone.
